Aeromonas hydrophila is a facultative anaerobic Gram negative bacillus. It usually thrives in fresh and brackish water and primarily causes gastroenteritis in humans. Rarely aeromonads have been associated with extra-intestinal infections, such as skin and soft infection, meningitis, epidural abscess, endocarditis and pneumonia in immunocompromised hosts. Here we report Aeromonas hydrophila soft tissue infection occurring in a 53-year-old Korean woman without underlying disease who was successfully treated with proper antibiotics.

The oral cavity is humid environment mainly due to the continuous salivary flow. The reaction of oral mucosa to fluid flow is important for homeostasis and pathogenesis. The objective of this study is the screening the change of gene expression after the application of fluid induced shear stress (FISS) on the gingival fibroblast using cDNA microarray assay. The immortalized human gingival fibroblasts were grown and FISS was applied using a cone viscometer at a rotational velocity of 40 rpm, respectively for periods of 2 and 4 hours. The synthesis of cDNA was done from the extracted total RNA and cDNA microarray assay was done subsequently. The genes that showed over 1.6 in the Cy3/Cy5 or the Cy5/Cy3 value were regarded as genes influenced significantly by the FISS application ion (/M/>0.7). The " RUNX-1" was increased its expression in 2 hours group and " RUN and SH3 domain containing 1" was increased its expression in 4 hours group. The "CC020415", "cyclin L1", "interferon regulatory factor1", "early growth response 1", "immediate early response 2", and "immediate early response 3" genes were increased their expression in 2 and 4 hours after FISS application. In conclusion, we could find many genes that were probably related to the FISS application. Interestingly, most of them were placed in similar molecular pathways and these findings improve the reliability of chip data and usefulness in overall screening. From this experiment, we could find many items for further study and it will make improvement in the understanding of intracellular events in response to FISS.
굴절률에 의한 K=0.1인 Lithium Borosilicate 유리계의 구조 해석

The ternary xLizO . y(B203 . O.1Si02) glasses were made spanning the glass forming region as a function of R(=mole% LizO/mole% B203) and (=mole%SiOz/mole%B203). The refractive index of glasses were measured at several wavelengths (430nm, 486.1nm, 527nm, 589nm, 656.Snm, 687nm). The measured values were spanned in the range of 1.4769 -1.6339. These values have been analyzed as a function of R to facilitate of the studies on the structure of glasses. The results have indicated that ; (1) the addition of lithium oxide in pure boron glasses converts B03 units with a little polarizability to B04- units and B03- units with a large one, (2) in the region of a little content of lithium, the refractive index values depend on the content of the lithium first thing, (3) in the region of a high content of lithium, the tangent of an increase of the refractive index is reduced because the glasses get the increase of an opening of the structure and a molar volume, (4) the polarizability of B03 - unit with a lithium ion is smaller than it of B04 - unit with the same ion.
