A Study on the Functionality of Halophytes from Coast area of Jeollanam-do

This study was undertaken to improve the perceived value of halophytes and contribute to the activity of the local economy by analyzing the antioxidant activity and mineral content of Suaeda japonica, Tetragonia tetragonoides, and Spergularia marina that grow wild on the mud flats and coastal areas. The total phenolic compound content found in each order is as follows: Suaeda japonica (3.674∼5.989 mg TAE/g dry wt.), Tetragonia tetragonoides (2.515∼4.471 mg TAE/g dry wt.), and Spergularia marina (2.450∼4.067 mg TAE/g dry wt.); DPPH radical scavenging and ABTS cation radical scavenging activities were also recorded in the same order. In the case of minerals, Iron(Fe) was relatively high in Suaeda japonica (960.1∼1,346.7 mg/kg), Manganese(Mn) in Tetragonia tetragonoides (197.1∼574.8 mg/kg), and Zinc(Zn) was relatively high in Spergularia marina (63.19∼216.56 mg/kg). It was confirmed that the mineral content of Suaeda japonica, Tetragonia tetragonoides, and Spergularia marina was significantly higher than that of Chinese cabbage, lettuce, leek, and spinach.

The coupling reaction of iodobenzene with allylic diols in the presence of Pd(OAc)_2 and nBu_3P as catalysts using K_2CO_3 as base afforded the phenyl-substituted allylic diols. However, under the same reaction conditions with Et3N as base, phenyl-substituted α-hydroxy ketone was obtained.

치근 천공 치료 재료의 생체친화성의 비교

This study was carried out in order to determine in vitro biocompatibility of white mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA), and to compare it with that of the commonly used materials, i. e. calcium hydroxide liner(Dycal), glass ionomer cement (GIC), and Portland cement which has a similar composition of MTA. To assess the biocompatibility of each material, cytotoxicity was examined using MG-63 cells. The degree of cytotoxicity was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and a colorimetric method, based on reduction of the tetrazolium salt 2,3 bis {2methoxy 4nitro 5〔(sulfenylamino) carbonyl〕2H tetrazolium hydroxide} (XTT) assay. The results of SEM revealed the cells in contact with GIC, MTA, and Portland cement at 1 and 3 days were apparently healthy. In contrast, cells in the presence of Dycal appeared rounded and detached. In XTT assay, the cellular activities of the cells incubated with all the test materials except Dycal were similar, which corresponded with the SEM observation. The present study supports the view that MTA is a very biocompatible root perforation repair material. It also suggests that cellular response of Portland cement and GIC are very similar to that of MTA. 이번 연구는 치근 천공의 치료 재료인 white mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA)를 흔히 사용되는 calcium hydroxideliner(Dycal^(R), glass ionomer cement (GIC), 그리고 MTA와 유사한 성분을 가진 Portland cement와 세포독성 실험으로 생체 친화성을 평가하는 것이다. 세포독성의 정도는 MG-63 세포를 이용해 주사전자 현미경적 관찰과 수용성 tetrazolium salt를 이용한 흡광도를 측정 (XTT assay)하여 평가하였다. SEM 관찰에서, 1일과 3일째 모두에서 GIC와 MTA, Portland cement표면에서는 잘 부착된 세포를 보여주었다. 반면에, Dycal 표면의 세포들은 둥글고 부착되지 않은 양상을 보여주었다. XTT assay에서는 Dycal을 제외한 모든 재료에서 유사하게 높은 세포 활성도를 보여주었으며, 이는 SEM 관찰 소견과 일치하였다. 이번 연구는 MTA가 생체친화적인 재료라는 견해를 뒷받침한다. 또한 Portland cement와 GIC에서도 MTA와 유사한 세포반응을 보여주었다.

The number and distribution of the retinal ganglion cells in the 1-week-old and 7-week-old ducks were determined from whole flat mounted preparations stained with methylene blue and thionin. The results were summarized as follows. 1. In the 1-week-old and 7-week-old ducks, the areas of the retinas were 269.4㎟ and 357.2㎟, respectively, and the total cell numbers 1,742,800 and 1,808,800, respectively. 2. The ganglion cells based upon soma diameter were classified into 3 groups such as small (below 10㎛), medium (10-20㎛) and large (above 20㎛) ganglion cells. In 1-week-old duck, the relative frequencies of these 3 groups were 91.0%, 8.5% and 0.5%, respectively, and in 7-week-old duck, 83.7% 14.7% and 1.6%, respectively. 3. Area centralis was located at the distance of 1.6mm (1-week-old) and 2.0mm(7-week-old) nasal side from the anterior tip of the pecten. The number of ganglion cells in the area centralis was 11,000 cells/㎟ (1-week-old) and 12,000 cells/㎟ (7-week-old). 4. There was a gradual decrease in density of retinal ganglion cells extending from area centralis to the periphery of retina. 5. The density of the large (above 20㎛) ganglion cells was higher in the peripheral regions than in the center of retina. Higher densities were noted in the superior-temporal region in 7-week-old duck, and in the nasal region in 1-week-old duck than in the other regions. 6. The direction of the beak tip is approximately 30° in 1-week-old and 26° in 7-week-old duck from the angle of the pecten.

다환계 방향족 유기오염물을 함유한 폐수의 전기화학 처리

This work has concerned the possibility to apply both direct and indirect electrolysis process for the treatment of waste containing poliaromatic compounds. Two different kinds of electrode materials have been used: DSA-type anodes to carry out direct electrolysis and carbon felt cathodes to ferform indirect electrolysis. On the contrary, in the case of the tested wastewater especially containing naphthalen- and anthraquinon sulphonic compounds they do not seem to be very suitable materials. Better results have been achieved using the carbon felt cathodes. In this case the COD of the tested wastewater can be remarkably decreased using H_2O_2 as oxidation agent.

Individual identification is an important part in medicolegal field especially in mass disaster. At July, 27, 1989, KAL KE-803 was crashed on landing at Tripoli International Airport, Liba. The plane was caught in fire and sixty eight Koreans were sacrified. The majority of victims were severely charred and injured. The authors examed all dead bodies and successfully identified all the cases through visual, anthropological, odontological, radiological and pathological methods including fingerprint and blood typing.

전해질로 나피온을 사용한 Ti/IrO_2 전극상에서 유기물의 양극산화 반응

This paper describes the anodic oxidation od various alphathic alcohols in pure water using Nafion cation exchange membrane as solid polymer electrolyte. The oxidation has been carried out on an IrO_2 anode under conditions of simultaneous oxygen evolution. The experimental results for the anodic oxidation of four different alcohols are in good agreement with the theoretical model presented in a previous paper. Finally a simple experimental method is described for the determination of the relative reactivity of organics oxidation on IrO_2 anodes.

저자들은 급성 림프구성 백혈병 치료 도중 아스페르길루스 감염을 동반한 호중구감소성 소장결장염에 의한 작은창자 천공을 경험하였다. 급성 림프구성 백혈병의 항암화학치료 중 발생 할 수 있는 호중구감소성 소장결장염은 다양한 위장관 증상을 보일 수 있으며, 이에 대한 발생 가능성을 고려하여 적극적인 조 기진단과 이에 대한 적극적 치료가 필요하며, 면역기능의 저하로 아스페르길루스 등의 진균 감염이 발생할 수 있으므로 호중구감소성 소장결장염의 치료에 증상의 호전이 없을 때 항진균제를 포함한 광범위한 치료가 고려되어야 한다. Though advancesin imumosuppressive therapy or chemotherapy which have lead to increased survival of leukemia and transplant patient, but the risk of infectious complication has been increasing. Neutropenic enterocolitis is a life threatening complication of chemotherapy for malignancies such as leukemia or lymphoma. Symptoms of neutropenic enterocolitis are nonspecific and it may rapidly lead to intestinal peforation. Aspergilus infection could involve the gastrointestinal tract as a result of neutropenia and mucosal injury after imumosuppressive therapy, chemoetherapy, or antibiotics use, but rarely reported a small bowel perforation combined aspergillus and neutropenic enterocolitis. We present a rare case of ileal perforation caused by neutropenic enterocolitis combined with aspergillus infection during chemotherapy for acute lymphocytic leukemia with a review of the literature.

거주자 감성을 위한 주거환경 평가도구 개발 연구

The purpose of this study was to develop the evaluation instrument for sensible aspects of housing environment. In terms of importance of sensibility which people persceive their housing environment, researches on the sensible environment has been done in several academic fields. However, evaluation tool for sensible aspects of housing environment has not existed until now. Therefore, there is a need to develop evaluation tool to measure the fit between dwelling environment and human sensibility. For this purpose, this study reviewed literatures and test results about ergonomics and human factors according to five senses. Based on keywords about five senses and housing environment, a checklist was developed.
