A chemical examination of the phenolic compounds in the leaves of Sapium japonicum (Euphorbiaceae) has led to the isolation of eleven phenolic compounds. containing five hydrolysable tannins and six flavonoids. On the basis of chemical and spectroscopic evidences, the structures of these compounds were confirmed to be galic acid(1), 5-O-caffeoyl quinic acid(2), 1-O-galloyl-3, 6-(R)-HHDP-β-n-glucose(coriiagin)(3), 1-O-galloyl-2.4-(R)-DHHDP-βn-glucose (furosin)(4), 1-O-galloyl-2.4-(R)-DHHDP-3.6-(R)-HHDP-β-m-glucose(geraniin)(5), astragalin(6), trifolin(7), afzelin(8), quercetin(9), isoquercitrin(10) and rutin(11). Among them geraniin was the main component.

Acinetobacter species is a non-fermentative aerobic gram-negative coccobacillus that is an important pathogen found in nosocomial infections. Recently, multi-drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (MDR-AB) infections have been increasing and pose a serious problem. Most such infections present as bacteremia, pneumonia, or a wound infection; however, CNS infections are very rare. We herein present a case of ventriculitis caused by MDR-AB in a 37-year old man after a neurosurgical intervention. The patient was successfully treated with intrathecal colistimethate.

Objectives The aims of this study are to estimate the prevalence of the DSM-IV psychiatric disorders in the Korean population using the Korean version of Composite International Diagnostic Interview (K-CIDI), and to compare those with previous studies. Methods The Korean Epidemiologic Catchment Area study Replication (KECA-R) was Conducted between August 2006 and April 2007. The sampling of the subjects was carried out across 12 catchment areas. A multistage, cluster sampling design was adopted. The target Population included all eligible residents aged 181o 64 years. Face-to-face interviews were conducted with the Korean version of Composite International Diagnostic Interview (K-CIDI) based on the DSM-IV (N=6,510, response rate=81.7%). Results A total of 6,510 participants completed the interview. The lifetime and 12-month prevalence rates for all types of DSM-IV disorders were 30.0% and 17.3%, respectively. Those of Specific disorders were as follows : 1) alcohol use disorder, 16.2% and 5.6% ; 2) nicotine use disorder, 9.0% and 6.0% ; 3) specific phobia, 3.8% and 3.4% ; 4) major depressive disorder, 5.6% and 2.5% ; and 5) generalized anxiety disorder, 1.6% and 0.8%. Data relating to nicotine and alcohol use disorder revealed a very high male/female ratio. Mood disorder and anxiety disorder were more prevalent among females than males. Conclusion The prevalence of psychiatric disorders was high. In comparison with other studies, remarkable differences in the distribution of psychiatric disorders across the country and times were observed.

Lung cancer is a leading cause of cancer death worldwide; however, despite major advances in cancer treatment during the past two decades, the prognostic outcome of lung cancer patients has improved only minimally. This is largely due to the inadequacy of the traditional screening approach of diagnosis in lung cancer, which detects only well-established overt cancers and fails to identify precursor lesions in premalignant conditions of the bronchal tree. In recent years this situation has fundamentally changed with the identification of molecular abnormalities characteristic of premalignant changes; these concern tumour suppressor genes, loss of heterozygosity at crucial sites and activation of oncogenes. Basic knowledge at the molecular level has extremely important chical implications with regard to early diagnosis, risk assessment and prevention, and therapeutic targets. In this study we used a "cap-finder" subtractive hybndization method, "long distance" polymerase chain reaction (PCR), streptavidin magnetic beads mediated subtraction, and spin column chromatography to detect differential expression genes of human small cell lung carcinoma. We have now isolated ninety two genes that expressed differentially in the human small cell lung carcinoma cells and analyzed of 12 clones with sequencing, nine cDNAs include tapasin (NGS-17) mRNA, BC200 alpha scRNA, chromosome 12q24 PAC RPC13-462E2, protein phosphatase 1 (PPPICA), translocation protein 1 (TLOCl), ribosomal protein S24 (WS24) mRNA, protein phosphatase (PPEF2), cathepsin Z, MDM2 gene and three novel genes. They may be oncogenesis-related proteins.

<P>To investigate the effect of culture temperature on erythropoietin (EPO) production and glycosylation in recombinant Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells, we cultivated CHO cells using a perfusion bioreactor. Cells were cultivated at 37°C until viable cell concentration reached 1 × 107 cells/mL, and then culture temperature was shifted to 25°C, 28°C, 30°C, 32°C, 37°C (control), respectively. Lowering culture temperature suppressed cell growth but was beneficial to maintain high cell viability for a longer period. In a control culture at 37°C, cell viability gradually decreased and fell below 80% on day 18 while it remained over 90% throughout the culture at low culture temperature. The cumulative EPO production and specific EPO productivity, qEPO, increased at low culture temperature and were the highest at 32°C and 30°C, respectively. Interestingly, the cumulative EPO production at culture temperature below 32°C was not as high as the cumulative EPO production at 32°C although the qEPO at culture temperature below 32°C was comparable or even higher than the qEPO at 32°C. This implies that the beneficial effect of lowering culture temperature below 32°C on qEPO is outweighed by its detrimental effect on the integral of viable cells. The glycosylation of EPO was evaluated by isoelectric focusing, normal phase HPLC and anion exchange chromatography analyses. The quality of EPO at 32°C in regard to acidic isoforms, antennary structures and sialylated N-linked glycans was comparable to that at 37°C. However, at culture temperatures below 32°C, the proportions of acidic isoforms, tetra-antennary structures and tetra-sialylated N-linked glycans were further reduced, suggesting that lowering culture temperature below 32°C negatively affect the quality of EPO. Thus, taken together, cell culture at 32°C turned out to be the most satisfactory since it showed the highest cumulative EPO production, and moreover, EPO quality at 32°C was not deteriorated as obtained at 37°C. Resonance Characteristics of THz Metamaterials Based on a Drude Metal with Finite Permittivity
Seung Won Jun,Yeong Hwan Ahn 한국광학회 2018 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.2 No.4
In most previous investigations of plasmonic and metamaterial applications, the metallic film has been regarded as a perfect electrical conductor. Here we demonstrate the resonance characteristics of THz metamaterials fabricated from metal film that has a finite dielectric constant, using finite-difference time-domain simulations. We found strong redshift and spectral broadening of the resonance as we decrease the metal’s plasma frequency in the Drude free-electron model. The frequency shift can be attributed to the effective thinning of the metal film, originating from the increase in penetration depth as the plasma frequency decreases. On the contrary, only peak broadening occurs with an increase in the scattering rate. The metal-thickness dependence confirms that the redshift and spectral broadening occur when the effective metal thickness drops below the skin-depth limit. The electromagnetic field distribution illustrates the reduced field enhancement and reduced funneling effects near the gap area in the case of low plasma frequency, which is associated with reduced charge density in the metal film.
