Intestinal Behcet’s disease (BD) often leads to severe complications, such as perforation or massive bleeding, and therefore is one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality. As thalidomide has been identified and its anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties clarified, this drug has been used in cases of systemic BD with some success. Herein we report a case series of four patients with intestinal BD to share our clinical experience with thalidomide treatment. We studied the effects of thalidomide in four patients who had a chronic relapse of intestinal BD requiring the frequent use of systemic steroids due to refractoriness to prior treatments, such as 5-aminosalycylic acid and immunosuppressants. Pre- and post-treatment clinical and laboratory data, including clinical symptoms, laboratory data, disease activity index for intestinal BD, and thalidomide toxicity were recorded. Three of the four patients had a clinical and radiologic improvement after thalidomide treatment and all of the patients discontinued steroid therapy. Although two patients tolerated thalidomide, two patients could not continue the treatment because they suffered from edema and neutropenia. Thalidomide could be considered a therapeutic option for the treatment of intestinal BD. (Intest Res 2010;8:63-69)

Objective: This paper aimed to provide estimates the burden of cancer attributable to occupational exposures in South Korea and to review the processes of estimating the population attributable fraction(PAF). Methods: The PAFs of occupational cancer were reviewed from previous studies. The number and proportion of cancer cases attributable to occupational carcinogens were estimated by multiplying the PAFs by recent Korean cancer data(up to 2016 for incidence and 2017 for death) obtained from the Statistics Korea. The estimation of PAFs included occupational exposures defined as definite or probable human carcinogens by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. Results: In South Korea, an estimated 10,769 new cancer cases(9,017 among men, 1,752 among women) in 2016, and 7,030 cases of death from cancer(6,047 in men, 983 in women) in 2017, were attributable to occupational exposures, representing 1.5-4.7% of all new cancer cases(2.1-7.5% and 0.3-1.6% among men and women, respectively) and 2.7-8.9% of all cancer death cases(3.4-12.4% and 0.5-3.3% among men and women, respectively). Among men and women, lung cancer was the most impactful. The estimation process of PAFs, however, has a variety of uncertainties. Conclusions: Occupational exposures contribute to a substantial burden of cancer in South Korea. PAFs for cancer provide useful information for prevention initiatives and prioritizing health policies for workers. However, PAFs need to be interpreted cautiously and updated regularly.

XML[1]은 문서의 논리적인 구조를 가지고 있으며 XML문서를 파싱할 때 이 구조에 맞는지 검증을 하게 된다. 이 때 대부분 파서의 경우에는 문서 단위로 검증을 하며 문서의 일부분만 검증할 수 없다. 또한 XML 문서가 변경되었을 때 이 문서가 유효(valid)한지 검사할 때에도 문서 전체를 검증해야 한다. 이렇게 되면 검증할 필요가 없는 부분도 다시 검증하게 되는 오버헤드가 발생하는데 만약 XML문서가 데이터베이스에 저장되어 있다면 문서 전체를 꺼내어서 검증하고 다시 삽입해야 한다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 XML 문서가 변경되었을 때, 변경된 부분만 검증할 수 있는 기법을 제안한다.
Purification and characterization of recombinant human erythropoietin from milk of transgenic pigs

<P>BACKGROUND: Human erythropoietin (hEPO), a hydrophobic acidic glycoprotein responsible for the regulation of red blood cell production in mammals, is used for the treatment of anemia. In general, the purification of transgenic animal-derived therapeutic proteins is not easy due to their low titer concentrations and abundant contaminant proteins. For the first time, here the purification and characterization of rhEPO from the milk of transgenic pigs are described.</P><P>RESULTS: The rhEPO was purified by heparin chromatography, reverse-phase chromatography, and gel filtration chromatography, resulting in a 16.5% yield and > 98% purity. The rhEPO purified from the milk of transgenic pigs contained less acidic isoforms and was underglycosylated in contrast to CHO-derived rhEPO. Cell proliferation of the F-36/EPO-dependent cell line was proportional to the dose of transgenic pig-derived rhEPO.</P><P>CONCLUSION: Transgenic pig-derived rhEPO with high purity was achieved after three-step chromatography following two-step precipitation. The transgenic pig-derived rhEPO was demonstrated to have comparable potency with CHO-derived rhEPO. Transgenic pig-derived rhEPO may not be therapeutically feasible because of different glycosylation, and thus further studies are required to elucidate the effect of this aberrant glycosylation on the biological activity and stability in vivo. Recently, the rise in steel material price and cost to produce steel tube has encouraged studies on the structural material and system to reduce the amount of steel material needed. Previously, we developed welded built-up square steel tube providing a great deal of load capacity buckling. Beam to column pin connections with inner RC core and exterior welded built-up CFT column is one of the structural system that support lateral load. In case of pin connections using welded built-up CFT column, we decided to use T-section as shear tap. If this pin connections is used, due to width to thickness ratio and displacement of T-section, the eccentric distance between the column flange surface and the beam flange end degrades the strength by the local moment on the column flange surface. This study performed a theory analysis on the CFT column to beam pinned connection to determine the strength degradation of the delded built-up square CFT column. The column's width, thickness and a strength of steel and concrete were used as variables for the analysis. The yield line theory was applied in the proposed strength formula for the CFT column to beam pinned connection.
