Go-wol(Pen name), Lee. Jang-bee(1900-1924), was a poet in the 1920's with a unique sensation. The Korean poetical circles in 1920's had tendency to express the mood of grief, futility and despair which are characteristics of the end of the century. Go-wol's poems reveal the quality of sensation filled with excellent and superb sensation without being involved in the sentimental and decadent trend which were popular in those days. His hard and transparent color imagery became good model for the 1930's modernist. He constantly attempted to refine his poetry through his effort of moulding his poetic words which are like the platina strings. He then hoped to become a magician of words with his pure and transparent sensation. However, his efforts were in vain, thus he was indulged in the guilty consciousness, self-hatred, and mysophobia which drove him to commit suicide. Go-wol was known for his sensitivity and above all he was good at expressing color words. The colors he used were limited. He used white, blue, and red mainly. He reveals the world of unconsciousness as well as aesthetic characteristics through color imagery. White represents purity and chastity and mysophobia and functions as a powerful censor of morality. Color blue symbolize death and deterioration and color red represents libidonal desire which is finally frustrated.

Background: Ginseng (Panax ginseng Meyer) is an important medicinal herbs in Asia. However, ginsengvarieties are less developed. Method: To developed ginseng varieties, a pure line selection method was applied in this study. Results: Gumpoong was testing of 4-yr-old specimens in 2002, the proportions of the below-groundroots that were rusty colored for Gumpoong was 1.29 in Daejeon and 1.45 in Eumseong, whereas theproportions for its yellow berry variant were 2.60 and 2.45 in the two regions, respectively. Thus theGumpoong was resistant to root rust. Sunpoong has a high yielding property. Its average root weight is70.6 g for 6-yr-old roots. Its yield is 2.9 kg/1.62m2 and the rate of heaven- and earth-grade product is20.9%, which is very high compared to 9.4% for Yunpoong. Sunone is resistance to root rot and thesurvival rate of 4-yr-old roots was 44.4% in 1997, whereas that of the violet-stem variant landrace was21.7%. Sunhyang has content of arginyl-fructosyl-glucose (AFG), which produces the unique scent of redginseng, is 95.1 mmol/g and greater than the 30.8 mmol/g of Chunpoong in 6-yr-old plants. Sunun andCheongsun are being nurtured to protect genetic resources. Conclusion: Developed ginsneg varieties will be used as the basis for the protection of genetic resourcesand breeding. Jang-Ho Lee

In this paper, an ultra wideband(UWB) circular slot antenna fed by tapered microstrip line is presented. The designed antenna is composed of a tapered feed line, a circular slot and a circular patch. Important physical parameters concerned with the wideband characteristic are investigated and optimized. The operational bandwidth of the antenna is from 3.5 GHz to 13.8 GHz. The simulated and the measured data show good agreement each other.

The propose of this study is to present the possible solutions for the shortage of skilled labor in Korean construction industry that is currently encountered. This study examined employment trends in construction industry in Korea and U.S.A. The construction industry is highly influenced by economic cycle. The aging of the crafts and shortage of workers are pressing issue in this industry. In order to solve this problem, The construction industry must lead women labor to enter the their industry with appropriate education. This answer to the shortage is to retain those workers currently worked in other industry and to streamline construction practices to reduce labor strain.

The thyroid gland has been considered as an infrequent metastasis site. However, the incidence of thyroid involvement in reported autopsy series varies from 1.25% to 24%. In most autopsy series, breast and lung cancers have been the most frequent metastatic diseases to the thyroid gland, In contrast, renal cell carcinoma is the most frequent source of metastasis in clinical series. Many reports suggested that ultrasonography and subsequent ultrasonography-guided FNAB are mostly best suited for diagnosis of thyroid metastasis. Metastasis to the thyroid gland is associated with a poor prognosis and the prognosis depends essentially on the primary cancer. Surgery may prolong survival in a patient in whom the thyroid metastasis isolated, and thus early diagnosis and aggressive treatment should be performed in patients with the history of cancer.

Background/Aims: Retroperitoneal fibrosis is a fibrosing disease process which frequently develops ureteral obstruction. Malignant retroperitoneal fibrosis has been reported that various types of cancer including cancer of the breast, stomach, prostate, lung, cervix, uteri, colon, pancreas, ovary, and even Hodgkin's disease. While the pathogenesis remains obscure, small foci of metastatic neoplasm in the retroperitoneal space can elicit a desmoplastic reaction in secondary form to malignancy. Methods: Recently we experienced 7 cases of retroperitoneal fibrosis with advanced gastric cancer. So, we report 7 cases of retroperitoneal fibrosis with clinical and radiologic characteristics. Results: The most common signs and symptoms were related irreversible renal dysfunction. The urologic finding noted medial deviation of the involved ureters and hydronephrosis Conclusions: Clinical manifestations are abdominal pain, back pain, hydronephrosis, and uremia. When sudden back pain and hydronephrosis develop in advanced malignancy, physicians should be considerd for retroperitoneal fibrosis.

Objectives : This study was carried out to suggest preventive methods for hypertension in cold-exposed workers. Methods : In 11 refs·iteration industries, 68 workers working in refrigerated areas more than one time per day were selected as the exposed group, and 68 workers not exposed to cold were selected as the control group. We interviewed the subjects with a questionnaire covering occupational history, and conducted clinical and laboratory tests including measurements of blood pressure and core temperature. Results : The systolic blood pressure in the exposed group(130.0±13.3 mmHg) was significantly higher than that recorded In the control group(118.3±12.1 mmHg), as was the diastolic blood pressure in the exposed group(82.7±8.5 mmHg) versus the control group(77.4±8.7 mmHg). The core temperature in the exposed group(36.1±0.7℃) was significantly lower than that experienced in the control group (36.4±0.5℃). In logistic regression analysis, age, cold exposure severity and milk intake were significant variables, with odds ratios of 5.204(95 % CI 1.440∼18.812), 2.674(95 % CI 1.080∼6.618), and 0.364(95 % Cl 0.141∼0.942) , respectively. Conclusions : Our study suggests that cold-exposed workers have higher a higher risk of hypertension, and that their core temperature is lower. Risk factors affecting hyper-tension of cold-exposed workers include age, cold exposure severity and milk intake. For the prevention of hypertension, cold-exposed workers should minimize cold-exposure time as much as possible.

In this paper, an modal analysis based on the distribution of the electromagnetic fields on the UWB elliptical patch-slot antenna is presented. We designed the UWB antenna by iterating the dimensional parameters of the antenna as the traditional design method. Then the antenna was carefully analyzed using 3D E-M simulator. The result of the analysis shows that the slot antenna operates on a series of the multi-pole radiations based on TE modes matched to the system impedance. This result gives us an easier method to design the similar antennas, which is the impedance matching to the system impedance after once constructing a proper structure with a series of multi-mode resonances.
