Postoperative quality of life after gastrectomy in gastric cancer patients: a prospective longitudinal observation study

        Chao-Jie Wang,Yun-Suhk Suh,Hyuk-Joon Lee,Ji-Hyeon Park,Shin-Hoo Park,Jong-Ho Choi,Fadhel Alzahrani,Khalid Alzahrani,Seong-Ho Kong,Do-Joong Park,Hui Cao,Han-Kwang Yang 대한외과학회 2022 Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research(ASRT) Vol.103 No.1

Purpose: The European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer quality of life (QOL) questionnaires (QLQ-C30, QLQ-OG25, and QLQ-STO22) are widely used for the assessment of gastric cancer patients. This study aimed to use these questionnaires to evaluate QOL in postgastrectomy patients. Methods: We prospectively evaluated 106 patients with distal gastrectomy (DG), 57 with pylorus-preserving gastrectomy (PPG), and 117 with total gastrectomy (TG). Body weight and QOL questionnaires were evaluated preoperatively and postoperatively (at 3 weeks, and 3, 6, and 12 months). Results: TG patients had significantly more weight loss than DG/PPG patients. Compared with DG, patients after PPG had less dyspnea (P = 0.008) and trouble with coughing (P = 0.049), but more severe symptoms of insomnia (P = 0.037) and reflux (P = 0.030) at postoperative 12 months. Compared with DG/PPG, TG was associated with worse body image, dysphagia, eating, and taste in both OG25 and STO22. Moreover, OG25 revealed worse QOL in the TG group with respect to odynophagia, eating with others, choked when swallowing, trouble talking, and weight loss. The QOL of patients who received chemotherapy was worse than those in the chemo-free group in both physical functioning and symptoms such as nausea/vomiting, appetite loss, and trouble with taste; however, these side effects would soon disappear after finishing chemotherapy. Conclusion: PPG was similar to DG in terms of postoperative QOL and maintaining body weight, while TG was always inferior to both DG and PPG. Adjuvant chemotherapy can affect both body weight and QOL despite being reversible.

Family with Sequence Similarity 83 Member H Promotes the Viability and Metastasis of Cervical Cancer Cells and Indicates a Poor Prognosis

        Chao Chen,Hua-Feng Li,Yu-Jie Hu,Meng-Jie Jiang,Qing-Sheng Liu,Jia Zhou 연세대학교의과대학 2019 Yonsei medical journal Vol.60 No.7

Purpose: Family with sequence similarity 83 member H (FAM83H) plays key roles in tumorigenesis. However, the specific rolesof FAM83H in cervical cancer (CC) have not been well studied. Materials and Methods: The RNA-seq data of 306 CC tissues and three normal samples downloaded from The Cancer GenomeAtlas were used to analyze the expression of FAM83H. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to draw survival curves. Associationsbetween FAM83H expression and clinicopathological factors were analyzed by chi-square test. Cox proportional hazards modelwas used to analyze prognostic factors. Loss-of-function assays were conducted to discover the biological functions of FAM83Hin cell proliferation, colony formation, invasion, and migration. Real-time Quantitative Reverse Transcription PCR (qRT-PCR)and Western blotting were used to measure the expression levels of FAM83H in CC cell lines. Results: Our results demonstrated that FAM83H is overexpressed in CC tissues and that high FAM83H expression is associatedwith worse overall survival (OS). High FAM83H expression in CC was associated with clinical stage, pathologic tumor, and pathologicnode. Univariate analysis suggested that FAM83H expression was significantly related to the OS of CC patients. Althoughmultivariate analysis showed that FAM83H expression was not an independent prognostic factor for the OS of CC patients, the effectsof FAM83H on CC cell growth and motility was significant. Loss-of-function experiments demonstrated that knockdown ofFAM83H inhibited proliferation, colony formation, migration, and invasion of CC cells by inactivating PI3K/AKT pathway. Conclusion: FAM83H might play a crucial role in CC progression and could act as a novel therapeutic target in CC.

      • A band selection method for hyperspectral image classification based on improved Particle Swarm Optimization

        Jie Shen,Chao Wang,Ruili Wang,Fengchen Huang,Chao Fan,Lizhong Xu 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Signal Processing, Image Vol.8 No.4

With the development of spectral imaging technology, it makes hyperspectral imagery widely used. According to the features of multiple bands and the strong mutual correlation among these bands, this paper presents a band selection method for hyperspectral imagery classification based on improved PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization). First of all, we use information divergence to describe the correlation of the bands, then build the information divergence matrix to make the classification of subspaces. Secondly, we construct the fitness function of the algorithm with the band information and categories of the Bhattacharyya distance (B distance) to improve the inertia weight updating method in PSO. Finally, based on the AVIRIS hyperspectral imagery and compared with existing method to conduct experiments, the average classification accuracy of the proposed method is 81.36%, which is distinctly improved 0.91% compared with the existed method. Meanwhile, the proposed method has a significantly faster convergence speed during the process of the band selection. Therefore, the experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method in this paper.

Novel NiCo2Se4/Mn0.5Cd0.5S photocatalyst for visible light-driven hydrogen evolution

        Liu Chao,Zhang Feng-Jun,Wang Ying-Rui,Xie Wen-Jie,Ma Jie,Oh Won-Chun 한국세라믹학회 2023 한국세라믹학회지 Vol.60 No.4

The development of efficient and stable photocatalysts is one of the most important research directions to realize the practical application of photocatalytic hydrogen evolution. A series of novel visible light responsive NiCo 2Se4/Mn0.5Cd0.5S composites with different NiCo 2Se4 contents were prepared by hydrothermal method. The composites were characterized using different characterization techniques such as XRD, SEM, TEM, XPS, UV–Vis DRS, PL, and photoelectrochemistry. Photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction was also performed using visible light (λ > 420 nm) in an aqueous solution containing Na 2S·9H2O and Na 2SO3 as sacrificial reagents. The 4% NiCo 2Se4/ Mn 0.5Cd0.5S composites exhibited the highest photocatalytic hydrogen evolution capacity, producing 20 mmol  h −1  g−1 of hydrogen, higher than pure Mn0.5Cd0.50.5S (12.2mmol h-1g-1). The tight bonding of the two materials in the NiCo 2Se4/Mn0.5Cd0.5S composites may enhance the photocatalytic activity to some extent. The possible mechanism was suggested by UV–Vis DRS and photoelectrochemical measurements. The obtained NiCo 2Se4/ Mn0.5Cd0.5S composites have excellent photocatalytic activity and good stability in photocatalytic hydrogen evolution, and have potential applications in the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution from water using solar energy.

      • Modification of a Smoking Motivation Questionnaire for Chinese Medical Students

        Jiang, Chao,Sun, Wen-Jie,Wan, Yan-Chun,Wei, Ming-Wei,Mu, Yong-Ping,Tarver, Siobhan L.,Gao, Yong-Qing,Hu, Tian,Xu, Chao,Gordon, James,Feng, Cindy Xin,Wen, Yu-Feng Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.6

Introduction: Smoking prevalence among the medical students is high in China. Therefore, understanding the smoking motivations of medical students is crucial for smoking control, but currently there are no scales questionnaires customized for probing the smoking motivations of medical students. This aim of study was to test and modify a questionnaire for investigating smoking motivations among medical students. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 1,125 medical students at Xuzhou Medical College in China in 2012.The model fit and validity was assessed by confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and the reliability was tested by single-item reliability, composite reliability, and item-total correlation. Results: The prevalence of smoking was 9.84 % among study population. In the modified scales, the global fit indices identified a CFI value of 0.96, TLI was 0.96, and the RMSEA was 0.063. CFA supported the two dimensional structure of the instrument. The average variance extracted ranged from 0.45 to 0.62. All single-item reliability scores were greater than 0.20, and the composite reliability ranged from 0.74 to 0.91. Conclusion: Modified scales could be the preliminary instrument used in evaluating the smoking motivations of medical students. However, it should be further assessed using other forms and methods of validity and reliability, additional motivations of smoking, and the survey of other medical colleges in China.

      • Poster Session:PS 0234 ; Gastroenterology : Effect of Mir-34a in Regulating Steatosis by Targeting PPARa Expression in NAFLD

( Jie Xia Ding ),( Meng Li ),( Xi Jin ),( Shao Hua Chen ),( Chao Hui Yu ),( You Ming Li ) 대한내과학회 2014 대한내과학회 추계학술대회 Vol.2014 No.1

Background: The association between altered expression of miR-34a and pathophysiological features of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and whether there is a connection between susceptibility to NAFLD has not been completely clarifi ed. Methods: The vitro model was established by culturing L02 cells with a high concentration of free fatty acid (FFA) and the vivo model was established by feeding C57BL/6 mice with HFD. To determine the effects of miR-34a, cultured L02 cells transfected with miR-34a inhibitor and C57BL/6 mice injected with miR-34a inhibitor through vein tail were analysed for the level of PPARaand the metabolic sensor AMPK. In functional experiments, TG content and steatosis degree were measured by TG assay kit, HE and Oil Red O staining. Results: miR-34a expression is signifi cantly upregulated in steatosis-induced hepatocytes and in liver tissues of HFD fed mice. The upregulation of miR-34a resulted in the downregulation of hepatic peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-a(PPARa), the direct target of miR-34a. Moreover, the action of miRNA-34a on PPAR-a depends on the presence of a single miRNA-34a binding site. Silencing miR-34a led to an initial increase the level of PPARaand the targets of PPARa, including CPT1, CPT2, SLC27A4, SLC27A1 and ACBD3. Activation of the central metabolic sensor AMPK was also increased. In functional experiments, miR-34a inihibitor suppressed cell and mice liver TG content and improve steatosis degree. Furthermore, inhibition of PPARa expression aggravated hepatocellular steatosis in vitro models. Conclusions: NAFLD is associated with altered hepatic miR-34a expression. Decreased expression of miR-34a potentially contributes to altered lipid metabolism implicated in the pathogenesis of NAFLD. These results suggest that regulating it`s target PPARa by down-regulation of miR-34a levels may be a therapeutic strategy against NAFLD.

        Jie-Qing Liu,Ming-Hua Qiu,Cui-Fang Wang,Xing-Yao Li,Jian-Chao Chen,Yan Li 대한약학회 2011 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.34 No.8

A new pregnane glycoside, named (20R)-O-(3)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→2)-α-L-arabinopyranosyl-pregn-5-en-3β,20-diol (1), and seven known compounds, brusatol (2), bruceine B (3), bruceine D (4), yadanziolide A (5), bruceine E (6), yadanzioside G (7), and yadanzioside B (8), were isolated from the cultivated dry seeds of Brucea javanica. The structure of 1 was elucidated on the basis of 1D- and 2D-NMR spectroscopic analyses. Their inhibitory effects on tumor cells were also tested. Compound 1 was slightly active against HL-60, SMMC-7721, A-549, and MCF-7 tumor cells. Compounds 2 and 3 demonstrated significant inhibitory activities against all tested cells. These results indicate that cultivated B. javanica could replace the wild plant as an antitumor plant resource.

      • Poster Session:PS 0235 ; Gastroenterology : Hadha Plays a Role of Double-Edged Sword in Hepatic Steatosis and Cell Injury in Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

( Jie Xia Ding ),( Meng Li ),( Xing Yong Wan ),( Xi Jin ),( Shao Hua Chen ),( Chao Hui Yu ),( You Ming Li ) 대한내과학회 2014 대한내과학회 추계학술대회 Vol.2014 No.1

Background: The mechanisms of pathogenesis underlying nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) remain unclear at present and the depth study of HADHA in the development of NAFLD has never been investigated. Methods: The NAFLD cell model was established by treating L02 cells with free fatty acid (FFA) overload. Small interfering RNA (siRNA) was used to knock down HADHA level. The expression of HADHA and key enzymes associated with fatty acid beta- oxidation in L02 cells were determined by q-PCR. Key protein associated in energy metabolism, endoplasmic reticulum(ER) stress and infl ammatory were determined by western blotting. ATP, hydroperoxide (H2O2), catalase (CAT) and mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) were measured. The prediction of HADHA upstream regulation of miRNA was carried out and luciferase reporter assays were implemented to validate the prediction. Results: After culturing L02 cells by FFA for 48h, we detect the increased protein level of HADHA. HADHA knockdown in L02 cells resulted in an increased of lipid accumulation and downregulation of gene expression involved in fatty acid beta-oxidation, including PPARa, ACOX1, CPT2, EHHADH, ECHS1, HADHB and HADH. Additionally, administering HADHA siRNA exhibited improvement of oxidative stress, embodied in decreased level of H2O2 and MDA, meanwhile, increased levels of ATP, CAT and MMP. Furthermore, HADHA knockdown demonstrated weakened AMPK pathway, activation of MAPK and MKK3 pathway, and improve ER stress by downregulation of C/EBPa and C/EBPß. Moreover, HADHA was regulated directly by upstream gene of miR-124. Conclusions: Our results show that HADHA may plays a role of double-edged sword in hepatic steatosis and cell injury in NAFLD, and provide a new insight into the pathogenic mechanisms of NAFLD, may becoming a potential new therapeutic target for NAFLD.

Nonlinear Model Predictive Control for Near-Space Interceptor Based on Finite Time Disturbance Observer

Chao Guo,Chen Song,Yu-Jie Zhao,Jun-Wei Wang 한국항공우주학회 2018 International Journal of Aeronautical and Space Sc Vol.19 No.4

This paper proposes a novel nonlinear model predictive control design method based on the finite time disturbance observer (FTDO) and dynamic control allocation (DCA) algorithm for the near-space interceptor (NSI). First, the FTDO is introduced to estimate the mismatched system disturbance. The nonlinear model predictive control scheme based on the estimation value is proposed to obtain the virtual control command, and the mismatched disturbance can be effectively removed from the output channels of the NSI by designing a feed-forward disturbance compensation term with an appropriate compensation gain matrix. Moreover, a new DCA method is given to distribute the above virtual control command among the corresponding actuators (reaction jets and aerodynamic fins). Finally, numerical simulations illustrate that the proposed control scheme can track the command signal with high precision and have strong robustness against the mismatched disturbance.
