Thermodynamic Investigation of Methanol and Dimethyl Ether Synthesis from CO2 Hydrogenation
Shen, Wen Jie,Jun, Ki Won,Choi, Ho Suk,Lee, Kyu Wan 한국화학공학회 2000 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.17 No.2
The thermodynamics involved in the catalytic hydrogenation of CO₂ have been examined extensively. By assuming that methanol and dimethyl ether (DME) are the main products, two reaction systems each consisting of two pararell reactions were analyzed and compared in terms of the equilibrium yield and selectivity of the useful products, methanol and DME. The calculation results demonstrated that the production of DME allows much higher oxygenate yield and selectivity than that of methanol.

Objective The present study investigated the functional neuroanatomy underlying negative and positive schemas towards the self and others in patients with early stage schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSDs) using a task-based fMRI procedure. Methods This study included 50 patients with SSDs and 52 controls. The schema-evoking task consisted of four active conditions and neutral condition. Differences in brain activation were compared between the two groups. Correlation analysis was performed between task-related activation and psychopathology. Results The SSD patients exhibited higher activity of the left middle and inferior frontal gyri under the negative-others minus neutral contrast as well as greater activation of the left superior and middle frontal gyri and right medial superior frontal gyrus under the posi-tive-self minus neutral and positive-others minus neutral contrasts. Under the positive-others minus neutral contrast, negative correlation was observed between activity of the right inferior parietal gyrus and right angular and total score of the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), whereas positive correlation between activity of the left middle cingulate gyrus and left/right precuneus and positive-oth-ers score of the Brief Core Schema Scales (BCSS). Conclusion The present findings suggest that the frontal brain regions of SSD patients are more sensitive to negative and positive sche-mas towards the self and/or others compared to those of controls. A QUASI-NEWTON BUNDLE METHOD BASED ON APPROXIMATE SUBGRADIENTS
Jie, Shen,Pang, Li-Ping 한국전산응용수학회 2007 Journal of applied mathematics & informatics Vol.23 No.1
In this paper we propose an implementable method for solving a nonsmooth convex optimization problem by combining Moreau-Yosida regularization, bundle and quasi-Newton ideas. The method we propose makes use of approximate subgradients of the objective function, which makes the method easier to implement. We also prove the convergence of the proposed method under some additional assumptions.

Lung cancer despite advancement in the medical field continues to be a major threat to human lives and accounts for a high proportion of fatalities caused by cancers globally. The current study investigated vanillin oxime, a derivative of vanillin, against lung cancer cells for development of treatment and explored the mechanism. Cell viability changes by vanillin oxime were measured using MTT as-say. Vanillin oxime-mediated apoptosis was detected in A549 and NCI-H2170 cells at 48 h of exposure by flow cytometry. The CEBP homologous protein (CHOP) and death receptor 5 (DR5) levels were analysed by RT-PCR and protein levels by West-ern blotting. Vanillin oxime in concentration-dependent way suppressed A549 and NCI-H2170 cell viabilities. On exposure to 12.5 and 15 μM concentrations of vanillin oxime elevated Bax, caspase-3, and -9 levels in A549 and NCI-H2170 cells were ob-served. Vanillin oxime exposure suppressed levels of Bcl-2, survivin, Bcl-xL, cFLIP, and IAPs proteins in A549 and NCI-H2170 cells. It stimulated significant elevation in DR4 and DR5 levels in A549 and NCI-H2170 cells. In A549 and NCI-H2170 cells vanillin ox-ime exposure caused significant (p < 0.05) enhancement in CHOP and DR5 mRNA ex-pression. Vanillin oxime exposure of A549 and NCI-H2170 cells led to significant (p < 0.05) enhancement in levels of phosphorylated extracellular-signal-regulated kinase and c-Jun N-terminal kinase. Thus, vanillin oxime inhibits pulmonary cell proliferation via induction of apoptosis through tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) mediated pathway. Therefore, vanillin oxime may be studied further to develop a treatment for lung cancer.
Super-Resolution Reconstruction based on Tukey Norm and Adaptive Bilateral Total Variation
Jie Shen,Feng Xu,Mengxi Xu,Yun Yang,Ruili Wang,Lili Zhang 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Signal Processing, Image Vol.9 No.5
In Bilateral Total Variation (BTV) regularized super-resolution reconstruction (SRR), the fidelity item is only applicable to a specific noise model, and the fixed weight of BTV regularization term cannot adapt to the changes in an image. Thus, this paper proposes a SRR algorithm based on the Tukey fidelity term and adaptive BTV regularization term. The Tukey fidelity term has a more effective outliers suppression feature to deal with complex noises, and the weight of adaptive BTV regularization term can resize itself according to the changes of image textures, which can achieve the purposes of suppressing noises and preserving edges. Experimental results show that, compared with other algorithms, the proposed algorithm has better vision effects and higher Peak Signal-to-noise Ratio (PSNR) values.

With the development of spectral imaging technology, it makes hyperspectral imagery widely used. According to the features of multiple bands and the strong mutual correlation among these bands, this paper presents a band selection method for hyperspectral imagery classification based on improved PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization). First of all, we use information divergence to describe the correlation of the bands, then build the information divergence matrix to make the classification of subspaces. Secondly, we construct the fitness function of the algorithm with the band information and categories of the Bhattacharyya distance (B distance) to improve the inertia weight updating method in PSO. Finally, based on the AVIRIS hyperspectral imagery and compared with existing method to conduct experiments, the average classification accuracy of the proposed method is 81.36%, which is distinctly improved 0.91% compared with the existed method. Meanwhile, the proposed method has a significantly faster convergence speed during the process of the band selection. Therefore, the experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method in this paper.
One-Carbon Metabolism Nutrients, Genetic Variation, and Diabetes Mellitus
Jie Zhu,Gunjana Saikia,Xiaotao Zhang,Xiaoxi Shen,Ka Kahe 대한당뇨병학회 2024 Diabetes and Metabolism Journal Vol.48 No.2
Diabetes mellitus (DM) affects about 9.3% of the population globally. Hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) has been implicated in the pathogenesis of DM, owing to its promotion of oxidative stress, β-cell dysfunction, and insulin resistance. HHcy can result from low status of one-carbon metabolism (OCM) nutrients (e.g., folate, choline, betaine, vitamin B6, B12), which work together to degrade homocysteine by methylation. The etiology of HHcy may also involve genetic variation encoding key enzymes in OCM. This review aimed to provide an overview of the existing literature assessing the link between OCM nutrients status, related genetic factors, and incident DM. We also discussed possible mechanisms underlying the role of OCM in DM development and provided recommendations for future research and practice. Even though the available evidence remains inconsistent, some studies support the potential beneficial effects of intakes or blood levels of OCM nutrients on DM development. Moreover, certain variants in OCM-related genes may influence metabolic handling of methyl-donors and presumably incidental DM. Future studies are warranted to establish the causal inference between OCM and DM and examine the interaction of OCM nutrients and genetic factors with DM development, which will inform the personalized recommendations for OCM nutrients intakes on DM prevention.

Objective: To evaluate whether adjuvant simple hysterectomy after concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) improves progression-free survival (PFS) compared with current standard care in locally advanced cervical adenocarcinoma (LACAC). Methods: We reviewed a cohort of 55 patients with LACAC (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics [FIGO] stage IB2, IIA2, IIB, III without distant metastasis) diagnosed and treated with radical CCRT at Peking Union Medical College Hospital between January 2004 and October 2014. We compared 34 patients who underwent adjuvant extrafascial hysterectomy with 21 patients with standard care after CCRT. The primary outcome was PFS. Overall survivals (OS) between the two groups were also compared. Surgery feasibility, operative complications, and pathologic features after radiation therapy were also analyzed. Results: PFS was significantly improved in surgery group (log-rank p=0.0097; hazard ratio [HR], 0.3431; 95% CI, 0.152 to 0.772), as were OS (log-rank p=0.0419; HR, 0.3667; 95% CI, 0.139 to 0.964). Analysis of stage IIB demonstrates a similar result. There were no severe complications related to postradiation surgery in this series. The mean blood loss was less in laparoscopic group than those in the open group (87 mL vs. 208 mL, p=0.036, Mann-Whitney U-test). Approximately 47% patients (16/34) had pathologic residue tumor on hysterectomy specimens. About 94% patients (32/34) got complete remission after adjuvant surgery. Conclusion: Adjuvant hysterectomy after CCRT improves survival outcome for patients with LACAC compared with current standard care. Extrafascial hysterectomy is sufficient in tumor reduction and laparoscopic procedure may be more promising with lower blood loss and expedite recovery.
