새로운 냉수성 어종의 개발을 목표로 세포유전학 연구에 필요한 기초적인 실험을 실시하기 위하여 무지개송어와 산천어를 이용하여 유전물질을 분석하였다. 무지개송어는 염색체가 60개(48.6%), 61개(20.7%) 나타났고 22쌍의 metacentric 또는 submetacentric, 8쌍의 submetacentric 또는 acrocentric 염색체로 구성 되었고, 2n=61인 개체는 43개의 metacentric 또는 submetacentric, 9쌍의 submetacentric 또는 accentric 염색체로 구성되었다. 산천어는 염색체수가 66개(87.2%)로 나타냈는데, 17쌍의 metacentric 또는 submetacentric, 16쌍의 acrocentric 또는 telocentric 염색체로 구성되었다. For the cytogenetic analysis in rainbow trout and masu salmon genetic analysis was performed. The model diploid chromosome numbers of rainbow trout were 60(48.6%),61(20.7%) and the karyotype consisted of 22 pairs of meta-, submetacentrics and 8 pairs of subtelo-, acrocentrics. The other chromosomal karyotype (2n=61) consisted of 43 of meta-, submetacentrics and 9 pairs of submetacentric -, acrocentrics. The Chromosome number of masu salmon was 66(87.2%) and the karyotype consisted of17 pairs of meta-, submetacentrics and 16 pairs of acrocentrics, telocentrics.
Benzoyl peroxide의 환경에서의 초기 위해성 평가

Benzoyl peroxide is a High Production Volume Chemical, which is produced about 1,375 tons/year in Korea as of 2001 survey. The substance is mainly used as initiators in polymerization, catalysts in hte plastics industry, bleaching agents for flour nad medication for acne vulgaris. In this study, quantitative Structure-Activity Relationships(QSAR) are used for getting adequate information on the physical-chemical properties of this chemical. And hydrolysis in water, acute toxicity to aquatic and terrestrial organisms for benzoyl peroxide were studied. The physical-chemical properties of benzoyl peroxide were estimated as followed; vapor pressure=0.00929 pa, Log K_(ow)=3.43, Henry's Law constant=3.54×10^(-6) atm-m³/mole at 25℃, the half-life of photodegradation=3days and bioconcentration factor(BCF)=92. Hydrolysis half-life of benzoyl peroxide in water was 5.2hr at pH 7 at 25℃ and according to the structure of this substance hydrolysis product was expected to benzoic acid. Benzoyl peroxide has toxic effects on the aquatic organisms. 72 hr-ErC_(50)(growth rate) for algae was 0.44mg/L, 48hr-EC_(50) for daphnia was 0.07mg/L and the 96hr-LC_(50) of acute toxicity to fish was 0.24mg/L. Acute toxicity to terrestrial organisms(earth worm) of benzoyl peroxide was low(14 day-LC_(50)=>1,000mg/kg). Although benzoyl peroxide is high toxic to aquatic organisms, the substance is not bioaccumulated because of the rapid removal by hydrolysis (half life=5.2hr at pH 7 at 25℃) and biodegradation(8.% by BOD after 21days). The toxicity observed is assumed to be due to benzoyl peroxide rather than benzoic acid, which shows much lower toxicity to aquatic organisms. One can assume that effects occur before hydrolysis takes place. From the acute toxicity value of algae, daphnia and fish, an assessment factor of 100 was used to determine the predicted no effect concentration(PNEC). The PNEC was calculated to be 0.7㎍/L based on the 48hr-EC_(50) daphnia(0.07mg/L). The substance shows high acute toxicity to aquatic organisms and some information indicates wide-dispersive use of this substance. So this substance is a candidate for further work, even if it hydrolysis rapidly and has a low bioaccumulation potential. This could lead to local concern for the aquatic environment and therefore environmental exposure assessment is recommended.

Background : In recent years, gonorrhea has been panedemic and remains one of the most commom STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Methods: For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the VD Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results: In 1996, 139 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 53(39.0%) were PPNG. Conclusion: Our results suggests that after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, the prevalence of PPNG in Seoul is gradually declining.

<P>Problems related to tremendous volume changes associated with cycling and the low electron conductivity and ion diffusivity of Si represent major obstacles to its use in high-capacity anodes for lithium ion batteries. We have developed a group IVA based nanotube heterostructure array, consisting of a high-capacity Si inner layer and a highly conductive Ge outer layer, to yield both favorable mechanics and kinetics in battery applications. This type of Si/Ge double-layered nanotube array electrode exhibits improved electrochemical performances over the analogous homogeneous Si system, including stable capacity retention (85% after 50 cycles) and doubled capacity at a 3<I>C</I> rate. These results stem from reduced maximum hoop strain in the nanotubes, supported by theoretical mechanics modeling, and lowered activation energy barrier for Li diffusion. <P>Silicon is a promising candidate for electrodes in lithium ion batteries due to its large theoretical energy density. Poor capacity retention, caused by pulverization of Si during cycling, frustrates its practical application. We have developed a nanostructured form of silicon, consisting of arrays of sealed, tubular geometries that is capable of accommodating large volume changes associated with lithiation in battery applications. Such electrodes exhibit high initial Coulombic efficiencies (i.e., >85%) and stable capacity-retention (>80% after 50 cycles), due to an unusual, underlying mechanics that is dominated by free surfaces. This physics is manifested by a strongly anisotropic expansion in which 400% volumetric increases are accomplished with only relatively small (<35%) changes in the axial dimension. <P>A new single source approach was developed to synthesize face-centered tetragonal (fct) FePt nanoparticles using bimetallic compound (CO)<SUB>3</SUB>Fe(μ-dppm)(μ-CO)PtCl<SUB>2</SUB>, which has been characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction and was used as the precursor to ensure the accurate stoichiometry of the final FePt product; the ability of the molecular complex to act as a single source precursor for the formation of fct FePt nanocrystals with an average diameter of 3.2 nm has been demonstrated.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>Face-centered tetragonal FePt nanoparticles were synthesized from the bimetallic compound (CO)<SUB>3</SUB>Fe(μ-dppm)(μ-CO)PtCl<SUB>2</SUB>. Salmonella enterica is highly diverse in terms of genome structure, which is at least partly due to the horizontal transfer of genetic elements from various sources. In this study, we examined the expression profiles of such genes in $\underline{S}$almonella $\underline{P}$athogenicity $\underline{I}$slands (SPIs) and the cob/pdu locus, horizontally acquired large DNA segments, during growth under standard growth conditions. Transcripts from exponentially growing and early stationary phase Salmonellae were compared using various methods including cDNA microarray analysis. Nearly all genes encoded by SPIs and the cob/pdu locus were induced at the onset of the stationary phase in a stringent molecule ppGpp-dependent but stationary phase ${\sigma}$, ${\sigma}$38-independent manner. Although, it has been suggested that ppGpp acts in concert with DksA, we found the stationary phase induction of those SPI genes was not DksA dependent. It is suggested that ppGpp stimulates the expression of these stress-inducible genes encoded by horizontally acquired DNA, by itself or in concert with DksA.
