Surface plasmon resonance-enhanced solar-driven photocatalytic performance from Ag nanoparticles-decorated Ti3+ self-doped porous black TiO2 pillars

        Guo Zhou,Haiyan Meng,Yan Cao,Xuejun Kou,Shuxiang Duan,Leilei Fan,Ming Xiao,Fangzhou Zhou,Zhenzi Li,Zipeng Xing 한국공업화학회 2018 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.64 No.-

The tiny Ag nanoparticles-uniformly decorated Ti3+ self-doped porous black TiO2 pillars (Ag-TPBTPs) are prepared, which show obvious surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and extend the photoresponse to visible light and near-infrared region (∼1500 nm). The Ag-TPBTPs exhibit excellent solar-driven photocatalytic activities by mineralizing of high-toxic 2,4-dichlorophenol (∼99%), which is three times higher than that of the pristine TiO2. The remarkable solar-driven photocatalytic performance can be ascribed to the porous pillars structure offering more surface active sites, the self-doped Ti3+ and SPR effect of Ag nanoparticles improving the utilization of solar light, and enhancing the spatial separation efficiency of photogenerated charge carriers.

Engineering tumor-specific catalytic nanosystem for NIR-II photothermal-augmented and synergistic starvation/chemodynamic nanotherapy

        Shuixiu Zhou,Jiahuan Xu,Yanfei Dai,Yan Wei,Liang Chen,Wei Feng,Yu Chen,Xuejun Ni 한국생체재료학회 2022 생체재료학회지 Vol.26 No.4

Background: As an emerging therapeutic modality, chemodynamic therapy (CDT), converting hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) into highly toxic reactive oxygen species (ROS), has been developed for tumor-specific therapy. However, the deficiency of endogenous H2O2 and high concentration of glutathione (GSH) in the tumor microenvironment (TME) weaken the CDT-based tumor-therapeutic efficacy. Herein, a photothermal-enhanced tumor-specific cascade catalytic nanosystem has been constructed on the basis of glucose oxidase (GOD)-functionalized molybdenum (Mo)-based polyoxometalate (POM) nanoclusters, termed as GOD@POMs. Methods: GOD@POMs were synthesized by a facile one-pot procedure and covalently conjugation. Then, its structure was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). In addition, ultraviolet-visiblenear-infrared (UV-vis-NIR) absorption spectrum and infrared thermal camera were applied to evaluate the catalytic and photothermal performance, respectively. Moreover, to confirm the therapeutic effects in vitro, cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay, live/dead staining and ROS staining were performed. Furthermore, the biosafety of GOD@POMs was investigated via blood routine, blood biochemistry and hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining in Kunming mice. Besides, the C6 glioma tumor-bearing mice were constructed to evaluate its anti-tumor effects in vivo and its photoacoustic (PA) imaging capability. Notably, RNA sequencing, H&E, TdT-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) and Ki-67 staining were also conducted to disclose its underlying anti-tumor mechanism. Results: In this multifunctional nanosystem, GOD can effectively catalyze the oxidation of intratumoral glucose into gluconic acid and H2O2, achieving the cancer starvation therapy. Meanwhile, the generated gluconic acid decreases the pH in TME resulting in POM aggregation, which enables PA imaging-guided tumor-specific photothermal therapy (PTT), especially in the second near-infrared (NIR-II) biological window. Importantly, the Mo (VI) sites on POM can be reduced to Mo (V) active sites in accompany with GSH depletion, and then the post-produced Mo (V) transforms in situ overproduced H2O2 into singlet oxygen (1O2) via Russell mechanism, achieving self-enhanced CDT. Moreover, the PTT-triggered local tumor temperature elevation augments the synergistic nanocatalytic-therapeutic efficacy. Conclusions: Consequently, the integration of GOD-induced starvation therapy, H2O2 self-supply/GSH-depletion enhanced Mo-based CDT, and POM aggregation-mediated PTT endow the GOD@POMs with remarkable synergistic anticancer outcomes with neglectable adverse effects.

A Large-Scale, Stratified Genetic Analysis of the Major Histocompatibility Complex Region in Early- and Late- Onset Psoriasis in China

( Yi Zhou ),( Minglong Cai ),( Yujun Sheng ),( Xuejun Zhang ) 대한피부과학회 2021 Annals of Dermatology Vol.33 No.1

Background: Psoriasis vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory skin disease which occur at any age. It can be clinically classified into two age-onset subtypes: early-onset psoriasis (EOP; <40 years) and late-onset psoriasis (LOP; ≥40 years). More evidence showed EOP and LOP have different genetic architecture, notably the risk allele human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-C*06:02 located within the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) region, which was reported to be the outstanding variant associated with EOP. However, genetic structure of EOP and LOP have not been fully elucidated. Objective: To investigated HLA genetic heterogeneity between EOP and LOP in China. Methods: We first calculated the MHC-based heritability of EOP and LOP respectively. Then, we conducted a large-scale, stratified analysis including 7,097 EOP, 1,337 LOP patients, and 9,906 healthy controls by using MHC target sequencing data from a previous study. Results: We observed that HLA alleles collectively explained a larger heritability of EOP (27.4%) than LOP (11.3%). Further association analysis identified three independent loci (HLA-C*01:02, p=6.70×10-8; HLA-A amino acid position 9, p=3.27×10-17; and HLA-A amino acid position 161, p=5.75×10-10) that confer specific susceptibility to EOP. Our data also confirmed HLA-C*06:02 as an independent psoriasis-associated variant, contributing a higher degree of risk to EOP than LOP. Moreover, case-case analysis confirmed that HLA-C*06:02-positive psoriasis patients have earlier onset. Conclusion: Our analysis indicating that different genetic background underlie the EOP and LOP. We believe these findings will serve to predict psoriasis risk in the future and facilitate clinical decision. (Ann Dermatol 33(1) 61∼67, 2021)

Catheter-Directed Thrombolysis with a Continuous Infusion of Low-Dose Urokinase for Non-Acute Deep Venous Thrombosis of the Lower Extremity

        Binbin Gao,Jingyong Zhang,Xuejun Wu,Zonglin Han,Hua Zhou,Dianning Dong,Xing Jin 대한영상의학회 2011 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.12 No.1

Objective: We wanted to evaluate the feasibility of catheter-directed thrombolysis with a continuous infusion of low-dose urokinase for treating non-acute (less than 14 days) deep venous thrombosis of the lower extremity. Materials and Methods: The clinical data of 110 patients who were treated by catheter-directed thrombolysis with a continuous infusion of low-dose urokinase for lower extremity deep venous thrombosis was analysed. Adjunctive angioplasty or/and stenting was performed for the residual stenosis. Venous recanalization was graded by pre- and posttreatment venography. Follow-up was performed by clinical evaluation and Doppler ultrasound. Results: A total of 112 limbs with deep venous thrombosis with a mean symptom duration of 22.7 days (range: 15-38 days) were treated with a urokinase infusion (mean: 3.5 million IU) for a mean of 196 hours. After thrombolysis, stent placement was performed in 25 iliac vein lesions and percutaneous angioplasty (PTA) alone was done in fi ve iliac veins. Clinically signifi cant recanalization was achieved in 81% (90 of 112) of the treated limbs; complete recanalization was achieved in 28% (31 of 112) and partial recanalization was achieved in 53% (59 of 112). Minor bleeding occurred in 14 (13%) patients, but none of the patients suffered from major bleeding or symptomatic pulmonary embolism. During followup (mean: 15.2 months, range: 3-24 months), the veins were patent in 74 (67%) limbs. Thirty seven limbs (32%) showed progression of the stenosis with luminal narrowing more than 50%, including three with rethrombosis, while one revealed an asymptomatic iliac vein occlusion; 25 limbs (22%) developed mild post-thrombotic syndrome, and none had severe post-thrombotic syndrome. Valvular refl ux occurred in 24 (21%) limbs. Conclusion: Catheter-directed thrombolysis with a continuous infusion of low-dose urokinase combined with adjunctive iliac vein stenting is safe and effective for removal of the clot burden and for restoration of the venous fl ow in patients with non-acute lower extremity deep venous thrombosis. • Comparison of Survival Rates between Chinese and Thai Patients with Breast Cancer

        Che, Yanhua,You, Jing,Zhou, Shaojiang,Li, Li,Wang, Yeying,Yang, Yue,Guo, Xuejun,Ma, Sijia,Sriplung, Hutcha Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.15

The burden and severity of a cancer can be reflected by patterns of survival. Breast cancer prognosis between two countries with a different socioeconomic status and cultural beliefs may exhibit wide variation. This study aimed to describe survival in patients with breast cancer in China and Thailand in relation to demographic and clinical prognostic information. Materials and Methods: We compared the survival of 1,504 Chinese women in Yunnan province and 929 Thai women in Songkhla with breast cancer from 2006 to 2010. Descriptive prognostic comparisons between the Chinese and Thai women were performed by relative survival analysis. A Cox regression model was used to calculate the hazard ratios of death, taking into account the age, disease stage, period of diagnosis and country. Results: The overall 5-year survival proportion for patients diagnosed with breast cancer for Yunnan province (0.72) appeared slightly better than Songkhla (0.70) without statistical significance. Thai women diagnosed with distant and regional breast cancer had poorer survival than Chinese women. Disease stage was the most important determinant of survival from the results of Cox regression model. Conclusions: Breast cancer patients in Kunming had slightly greater five-year survival rate than patients in Songkhla. Both Chinese and Thai women need improvement in prognosis, which could conceivably be attained through increased public education and awareness regarding early detection and compliance to treatment protocols.

Uniaxial Eccentric Load Behavior of L-CFSST Composite Column

        Zhen Wang,Zhe Liu,Xingbo Wang,Xuejun Zhou,Zhoutai Wang,Guodong Xian 대한토목학회 2023 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.27 No.5

This study presents the mechanical behavior of L-shaped concrete-filled square steel tube (L-CFSST) composite columns under uniaxial eccentric compression. Nine specimens were tested and the effects of eccentricity, steel tube thickness, steel yield strength, and slenderness ratio were investigated regarding failure modes, ultimate load, load-lateral displacement curves, and load-strain curves. Test results showed that, under uniaxial eccentric load, these columns showed favorable mechanical properties and steel tubes showed strong cooperative working performance. There were two types of failure modes for these columns: local buckling of the steel tube or overall bending of the specimen. ABAQUS was used to simulate the loading process and the accuracy of the numerical simulation results was verified by comparing failure characteristics, load-displacement curves, and ultimate bearing capacity with the test results. The N/Nu-M/Mu curves of the columns under uniaxial eccentric load with different parameters were simulated by the finite element method. A simplified formula for predicting the N/Nu-M/Mu relationship was established based on the finite element analysis results, which might be a workable approach for designing L-CFSST composite columns in engineering practice.

Spatiotemporal Variations and Possible Sources of Ambient PM10 from 2003 to 2012 in Luzhou, China

        Dong Ren,Youping Li,Hong Zhou,Xiaoxia Yang,Xiaoman Li,Xuejun Pan,Bin Huang 대한환경공학회 2014 Environmental Engineering Research Vol.19 No.4

Descriptive statistics methods were used to study the spatiotemporal variations and sources of ambient particulate matter (PM10) in Luzhou, China. The analyzed datasets were collected from four national air quality monitoring stations: Jiushi (S1), Xiaoshi (S2), Zhongshan (S3), Lantian (S4) over the period of 2003-2012. This city was subjected serious PM10 pollution, and the long-term annual average PM10 concentrations varied from 76 to 136 μg/m3. The maximum concentration was more than 3-fold of the annual average (40 μg/m3) issued by EPA-China for the ambient air quality. General temporal pattern was characterized by high concentrations in winter and low concentrations in summer, and general spatial gradient was in the reduction order of S2 > S4 > S3 > S1, which were both due to different particulate contributors and special meteorological conditions. The source apportionment indicated that vehicular emissions, road dusts, coal burning and chemical dusts were the major contributors of the identified PM10 pollution, and the vehicular emissions and the road wear re-suspended particles dominated the heavy PM10 pollution in recent years. Two other potential sources, agricultural and celebration activities could decrease the air quality in a short term. Finally, some corresponding suggestions and measures were provided to improve the air quality.

Isolation and characterization of heat-responsive gene TaGASR1 from wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

        Liyuan Zhang,Xiaoli Geng,Haiyan Zhang,Chunlei Zhou,Aiju Zhao,Fei Wang,Yue Zhao,Xuejun Tian,Zhaorong Hu,Mingming Xin,Yingyin Yao,Zhongfu Ni;Qixin Sun,Qixin Sun,Huiru Peng 한국식물학회 2017 Journal of Plant Biology Vol.60 No.1

GA-stimulated transcript (GAST) family genes have been identified in numerous plant species. In this paper, we isolated and characterized a heat-responsive gene, TaGASR1, from heat tolerant variety TAM107. The complete ORF of TaGASR1 was cloned, which encoded a 98-kDa protein, and the sequence shared 51.52% similarity to OsGASR1. Analysis of the TaGASR1 promoter region showed that it contained a heat shock element (HSE) and several cis-elements involved in abiotic stress response and hormone signal transduction. Expression patterns of TaGASR1 revealed that it was strongly induced by stress factors, such as high temperature, drought, high salinity and oxidation, as well as the phytohormones, including MeJA, ACC and ABA, which suggested the TaGASR1 gene might participate in these stress and hormone signal transduction pathways. Transient expression of TaGASR1-GFP fusion proteins in onion epidermal cells indicated that TaGASR1 protein was localized to the cell membrane or cytosol. Further analysis showed that ectopic expression of TaGASR1 in Arabidopsis enhanced thermotolerance and reduced the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) after heat stress. Moreover, we also found that TaGASR1-overexpressing wheat improved tolerance to heat stress and oxidative stress.

Quantitative trait locus mapping and genomic selection of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) based on high-density genetic map

        Tong Zhijun,Xiu Zhihui,Ming Yao,Fang Dunhuang,Chen Xuejun,Hu Yafei,Zhou Juhong,He Weiming,Jiao Fangchan,Zhang Chi,Zhao Shancen,Jin Han,Jian Jianbo,Xiao Bingguang 한국식물생명공학회 2021 Plant biotechnology reports Vol.15 No.6

Tobacco ( Nicotiana tabacum L.) is an economic crop and a model organism for studies of plant biology and genetics. As an allotetraploid plant generated from interspecific hybridization, tobacco has a massive genome (4.5 Gb). Recently, a genetic map with 45,081 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers was constructed using whole-genome sequencing data for a tobacco population including 274 individuals. This provides a basis for quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping and genomic selection, which have been widely applied to other crops but have not been feasible in tobacco. Based on this high-density genetic map, we identified QTLs associated with important agronomic traits, chemical compounds in dry leaves, and hazardous substances in processed cigarettes. The LOD values for major QTLs were highest for agronomic traits, followed by chemical compounds and hazardous substances. In addition to the identification of molecular markers, we evaluated genomic selection models and found that BayesB had the highest prediction accuracy for the recombinant inbred line population. Our results offer new insights into the genetic mechanism underlying important traits, such as agronomic traits and quality-related chemical compounds in tobacco, and will be able to support the application of molecular breeding to tobacco.
