        Tuberculosis of duodenum is so rare and is usually secondary to pulmonary or intestinal tuberculosis . It is difficult to diagnose duodenal tuberculosis in clinical and radiologic findings due to its non-specific symptoms and inconsistent lesion. The diagnosis was made on the basis of the histological study of the endoscopic biopsy and resected surgical specimen. so we report a case of tuberculosis of duodenal bulb and of ascending colon with, the brief review of the literatures.

      • Ultrasoft X선을 이용한 탄수화물분해효소를 고생산하는 Lipomyces Starkeyi 돌연변이 개발 및 특성 연구

        We have isolated a carbohydrase(dextranase and amylase; DXAMase) hyper-producing constitutive mutant from Lipomyces starkeyi JLC26 using ultrasoft X-ray irradiation obtained from Pohang accelerator laboratory(PAL). After partial purification of dextranase and amylase by membrane filtration, PEG, and DEAE-Sepharose column chromatography, the specific activities of amylase and dextranase were 3193 and 2822 unit/mg, respectively. The pH effects for activity and stability of both enzymes were similar to each other: Optimum pH and temperature for activity were at 5.5 and 50℃ and optimum ranges for stability were at pH 2.5-6.0 and 4-37℃, respectively. When the enzyme and maltotriose were reacted, glucose, maltose, isomaltose, maltotriose, panose and α (1→6) glucosylmaltotriose were produced by disproportionation reaction. When the enzyme and nigerose were reacted, glucose, nigerose, new product were produced.

      • 대구지역에서 꿀벌이 수집한 화분의 동정

        Pollens gathered by bees at an apiary at Daegu district were identified with light microscope and scanning electro microscope for effective establishment of honey plant plantations for year-round honey production. Pollen loads were collected from bees from March to October at one week interval, ten loads at each collecting time, a load from a colony. Pollens from fifty-four species were collected and 34 species were identified and 20 species unidentified, which would be identified later. Most of the pollen loads were composed with one species. However, a few loads were composed with up to four species. Pollens of 37 species were collected just one time. Pollens from just one species were not collected at any time. In July pollens from many species, up to six species at July 15 and 20, were collected. Pollens of four species, Erigeron annuus, Lagerstroemia indica, Koelreuteria paniculata, Evodia daniellii, were collected up to one month. As the latter two species were known as good honey producing plants, these two species proved to be good pollen producing plants. The former two species were known as poor honey producing plants, the importance of these two species should be reevaluated.

        조립토 지반에 설치된 침투트렌치의 비침투량 산정식 제안

        본 연구에서는 제주도와 같이 투수성이 매우 높은 지반에서의 침투량을 산정하기 위하여 침투트렌치에 대한 모형시험 및 현장시험을 실시하였다. 모형실험결과를 토대로 비침투량 산정식을 제안하였다. 제안된 식에 의해 산정된 침투량은 기존식에 의해 산정된 침투량보다 약 2배 정도 크게 나타났다. 한편, 현장침투시험을 통해 얻어진 침투량을 제안식과 기존식에 의해 얻은 침투량과 비교 한 결과, 현장침투시험을 통해 얻은 침투량은 제안식에 의해 얻은 침투량과 거의 비슷하게 나타났다. 따라서 투수성이 높은 조립토 지반에 설치된 침투트렌치의 침투량을 산정함에 있어 본 연구에서 제안된 침투량 산정식을 적용하는 것이 타당하다. The model test and field test for an infiltration trench were carried out to estimate the infiltration quantity in a granular ground with high permeability like Jeju's ground. The specific infiltration equation was suggested on the basis of the model test result. It shows that the infiltration quantity by the proposed equation is larger than about two times of that by the existed equation. Meanwhile, the infiltration quantity from field test is similar to that from the proposed equation as the result of comparison between infiltration quantity of the filed test and that of the proposed equation and the existed equation. Therefore, it may be right that the proposed equation is applied to estimate the infiltration quantity of the infiltration trench in a granular ground with high permability.

      • 용접흄 폭로 근로자들의 폐기능에 관한 연구

        In order to study the effect of welding fume exposure upon the pulmonary function test, we examined 131 shielded arc welding workers, and 152 CO₂arc welding workers as cases and 177 control workers for their general characteristics, and forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV 1.0), forced expiratory volume in one second as a percent of FVC (FEV1.0%), and maximal mid-expiratory flow (MMF) were obtained from the spirogram. In shielded arc welding group and CO₂arc welding group, FVC,FEV 1.0,FEV 1.0%, and MMF were significantly decreased than control group, especially marked in the MMF finding. The distribution of workers below normal range was as follows: in the shielded arc welding group, 2 workers(1.5%) for FVC, 17 workers(13.0%) for FEV 1.0, 5 workers(3.8%) for FEV 1.0, 28 workers(21.4%) for MMF, and in the CO₂arc welding group, 3 workers(2.0%) for FVC, 25 workers(16.4%) for FEV 1.0, 8 workers(5.3%) for FEV 1.0%, and 37 workers(24.3%) for MMF, and significant increase by exposure duration was found in MMF. The distribution of workers who had ventilation impairment was as follows: 5 workers(3.8%) for obstructive type, 2 workers(1.5%) for restrictive type in the shielded arc welding group, and 7 workers(4.6%) for obstructive type, 2 workers(1.3%) for restrictive type, and 1 worker(0.6%) was combined type of the CO₂arc welding group. In the respect of these results, the significant pulmonary function and ventilatory impairment were observed in welding fume exposed workers who had not abnormal finding in chest X-ray, and MMF considered as the most sensitive pulmonary function index by welding fume exposure. Therefore even if it is hard to doing pulmonary function test in the first health examination of workers according to the Industrial Safety Health Act in the welding fume exposure workers, it is desirable to consider doing PFT. Also evaluating the ventilation impairment, it is necessary to observe the change of MMF that marker of effort independent portion.

        직장감각저하 환자에서 바이오피드백 치료에 대한장기간 효과 및 인자 분석

        Background/Aims: Rectal hyposensitivity (RH) has been treated with conventional biofeedback therapy (BFT), whereas the effectiveness and long term results of this therapy are not known. We aimed to investigate the effectiveness of BFT for patients with RH by conducting a retrospective review of prospectively collected data. Methods: From June 2004 to March 2007, we enrolled those RH patients who underwent BFT. BFT was performed two or three times every week. Six months after BFT, the clinical response was evaluated by subjective and objective parameters. Results: A total of 82 RH patients underwent BFT. Fifty three patients finished BFT and the other 29 patients dropped out during BFT. Thirty six patients (67.9%) showed responsiveness (R) to BFT and 17 (31.5%) showed non-responsiveness (NR). The characteristics between the two groups showed no difference, except for the “desire to defecate” volume (116.1±25.2 in the R group vs. 140.0±43.9 in the NR group, p value <0.05) and the rectoanal inhibitory reflex (RAIR) (15.6±0.5 in the R group R vs. 27.6±18.2 in the NR group, p value <0.05). The R group showed a shorter colon transit time compared to NR group. At six months after BFT, a total of 20 patients were interviewed; 15 patients answered that they still had responsiveness (75%). Conclusions: The patients with RH showed a similar BFT response to that of the constipated patients. However, the patients with a more hyposensitive rectum and a longer colonic transit showed NR to BFT, suggesting RH is an important factor in BFT responsiveness. (Intest Res 2008;6:56-69)

        Urinary arsenic species concentration in residents living near abandoned metal mines in South Korea

        Background: Arsenic is a carcinogenic heavy metal that has a species-dependent health effects and abandoned metal mines are a source of significant arsenic exposure. Therefore, the aims of this study were to analyze urinary arsenic species and their concentration in residents living near abandoned metal mines and to monitor the environmental health effects of abandoned metal mines in Korea. Methods: This study was performed in 2014 to assess urinary arsenic excretion patterns of residents living near abandoned metal mines in South Korea. Demographic data such as gender, age, mine working history, period of residency, dietary patterns, smoking and alcohol use, and type of potable water consumed were obtaining using a questionnaire. Informed consent was also obtained from all study subjects (n = 119). Urinary arsenic species were quantified using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP/MS). Results: The geometric mean of urinary arsenic (sum of dimethylarsinic acid, monomethylarsonic acid, As<SUP>3+</SUP>, and As<SUP>5+</SUP>) concentration was determined to be 131.98 μg/L (geometric mean; 95% CI, 116.72–149.23) while urinary inorganic arsenic (As<SUP>3+</SUP> and As<SUP>5+</SUP>) concentration was 0.81 μg/L (95% CI, 0.53–1.23). 66.3% (n = 79) and 21.8% (n = 26) of these samples exceeded ATSDR reference values for urinary arsenic (>100 μg/L) and inorganic arsenic (>10 μg/L), respectively. Mean urinary arsenic concentrations (geometric mean, GM) were higher in women then in men, and increased with age. Of the five regions evaluated, while four regions had inorganic arsenic concentrations less than 0. 40 μg/L, one region showed a significantly higher concentration (GM 15.48 μg/L; 95% CI, 7.51–31.91) which investigates further studies to identify etiological factors. Conclusion: We propose that the observed elevation in urinary arsenic concentration in residents living near abandoned metal mines may be due to environmental contamination from the abandoned metal mine. Trial registration: Not Applicable (We do not have health care intervention on human participants).
