        Lactobacillus casei Zhang Prevents Jejunal Epithelial Damage to Early-Weaned Piglets Induced by Escherichia coli K88 via Regulation of Intestinal Mucosal Integrity, Tight Junction Proteins and Immune Factor Expression

        Farm animals such as piglets are often affected by environmental stress, which can disturb the gut ecosystem. Antibiotics were commonly used to prevent diarrhea in weaned piglets, but this was banned by the European Union due to the development of antibiotic resistance. However, the use of probiotics instead of antibiotics may reduce the risk posed by pathogenic microorganisms and reduce the incidence of gastrointestinal diseases. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the effects of Lactobacillus casei Zhang on the mechanical barrier and immune function of early-weaned piglets infected using Escherichia coli K88 based on histomorphology and immunology. Fourteen-day-old weaned piglets were divided into a control group and experimental groups that were fed L. casei Zhang and infected with E. coli K88 with or without prefeeding and/or postfeeding of L. casei Zhang. The L. casei Zhang dose used was 107 CFU/g diet. Jejunum segments were obtained before histological, immunohistochemical, and western blot analyses were performed. In addition, the relative mRNA expression of toll receptors and cytokines was measured. Piglets fed L. casei Zhang showed significantly increased jejunum villus height, villus height-crypt depth ratio, muscle thickness, and expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen and tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin. The use of L. casei Zhang effectively reduced intestinal inflammation after infection. We found that L. casei Zhang feeding prevented the jejunum damage induced by E. coli K88, suggesting that it may be a potential alternative to antibiotics for preventing diarrhea in early-weaned piglets.

        piRNA-1742 promotes renal cell carcinoma malignancy by regulating USP8 stability through binding to hnRNPU and thereby inhibiting MUC12 ubiquitination

        Accumulating studies have confirmed that PIWI-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) are considered epigenetic effectors in cancer. We performed piRNA microarray expression analysis on renal cell carcinoma (RCC) tumor tissues and paired normal tissues and performed a series of in vivo and in vitro experiments to explore piRNAs associated with RCC progression and investigate their functional mechanisms. We found that piR-1742 was highly expressed in RCC tumors and that patients with high piR-1742 expression had a poor prognosis. Inhibition of piR-1742 significantly reduced tumor growth in RCC xenograft and organoid models. Mechanistically, piRNA-1742 regulates the stability of USP8 mRNA by binding directly to hnRNPU, which acts as a deubiquitinating enzyme that inhibits the ubiquitination of MUC12 and promotes the development of malignant RCC. Subsequently, nanotherapeutic systems loaded with piRNA-1742 inhibitors were found to effectively inhibit the metastasis and growth of RCC in vivo. Therefore, this study highlights the functional importance of piRNA-related ubiquitination in RCC and demonstrates the development of a related nanotherapeutic system, possibly contributing to the development of therapeutic approaches for RCC.

        Magnesium isoglycyrrhizinate inhibits L-type Ca2+ channels, Ca2+ transients, and contractility but not hERG K+ channels

        To explore the cardiovascular protective effectsof Magnesium isoglycyrrhizinate (MI), especially theunderlying cellular mechanisms related to L-type calciumchannels and myocardial contractility, and to examine theeffects of MI on hERG K? current expressed in HEK293cells. We used the whole-cell patch clamp technique,video-based edge detection and dual excitation fluorescencephotomultiplier systems to explore the effect of MIon L-type Ca2? currents (ICa-L) and cell contraction in ratcardiomyocytes. We also examined the rapidly activatingdelayed rectifier potassium current (IKr) expressed inHEK293 cells using a perforated patch clamp. MI inhibitedICa-L in a dose-dependent manner, with a half-maximalinhibitory concentration (IC50) of 0.22 mg/ml, and themaximal inhibitory effect was 61.10 ± 0.59%. MI at aconcentration of 0.3 mg/ml reduced cell shortening by24.12 ± 3.97% and the peak value of the Ca2? transient by36.54 ± 4.96%. MI had no significant influence on hERGK? channels expressed in HEK293 cells at all testpotentials. MI exerts protective effects on the heart via theinhibition of ICa-L and cell shortening in rat cardiomyocytes. However, MI had no significant influence on IKr;thus, MI may exert cardioprotective effects without causingdrug-induced long QT syndrome.

      • An Optimal Joint Call Admission Control Policy in Heterogeneous Wireless Networks

        In heterogeneous wireless networks (HWNs), a scheme called Joint Call Admission Control (JCAC) is demanding for deciding whether or not an incoming service request will be accepted. In this paper, we propose an optimal JCAC policy for HWNs based on semi-Markov decision process (SMDP) to achieve the optimal resource management scheme in terms of minimal the network cost and acquire the required quality of service (QoS) of mobile user. Furthermore, an improved value iteration algorithm with multi-dimensional threshold structure is presented. Numerical results show that the proposed JCAC policy is the overall optimal policy. The proposed algorithm is effective for high QoS performance by reducing the probabilities of dropping and blocking calls. The optimal JCAC policy is ratified by the current trend in the design of next generation wireless networks (NGWNs).

        Oil film stiffness and damping in an elastohydrodynamic lubrication line contact-vibration

        An elastohydrodynamic lubrication line contact-vibration model is proposed to study the stiffness and damping of the oil film existed in the EHL contact region. An initial mutual approach between interacting surfaces, which deviates from the steady-state balanced position, is assumed under the free contact-vibration to predict the response of the mutual approach. An inertia term, which represents the acceleration of the gap motion, is added to the classical force balance equation to form the equation of motion of the mutual approach. Response of the mutual approach is solved based upon the solving of the contact-dynamic model. The oil stiffness is calculated according to the natural frequency of the response under damped and non-damped conditions, the latter of which represents dry contact conditions. The oil film damping is calculated in terms of the principle of the energy conservation which utilizes the whole history of response compared with the log decrement method. Effect of the normal load, the rolling speed and the amplitude of the regular sinusoidal surface waviness on the oil film stiffness, the contact stiffness and the oil film damping are studied. The study provides an insight on the oil film dynamic characteristics of lubricated contact-vibration problems which appear in gears, bearings, etc. The results show that the oil film damping factor decreases with the increasing normal load as well as the increasing rolling speed. The oil film stiffness increases with the normal load and decreases with the rolling speed. Also, compared to the contact stiffness, the oil film stiffness makes less contribution to the total stiffness. The surface waviness amplitude has little effect on the oil film stiffness and the oil film damping.

        2015년까지 교육용 어플리케이션의 규모는 애플 스토어 중 게임 다음으로 두 번째를 기록하며 약 15억 위안을 넘어 약 70,000여개의 어플리케이션이 차지하고 있다. 교육용 어플리케이션에서 인기 다운로드의 80%이상이 유아 대상이다. 본 논문에서는 중국에 유아 교육용 어플리케이션을 대상으로 살펴보고 개발자를 위한 유아 교육용 어플리케이션의 발전방향을 논의하는데 그 목적이다. 연구결과, MAU 상위 50개의 유아 교육용 어플리케이션의 내용은 언어를 바탕으로 나타났으며, 인앱 구매는 32%인 것으로 나타났다. 또는 유아 교육용 어플리케이션의 내용과 평가, 내용과 사용자, 내용과 지불 여부, 사용자와 평가 사이 유의한 것으로 나타났다.

        Simplified Analytical Model for Investigating the Output Power of Solar Array on Stratospheric Airship

        Solar energy is the ideal power choice for long-endurance stratospheric airships. The output performance of solar array on stratospheric airship is affected by several major factors: flying latitude, flight date, airship’s attitude and the temperature of solar cell, but the research on the effect of these factors on output performance is rare. This paper establishes a new simplified analytical model with thermal effects to analyze the output performance of the solar array. This model consisting of the geometric model of stratospheric airship, solar radiation model and incident solar radiation model is developed using MATLAB computer program. Based on this model, the effects of the major factors on the output performance of the solar array are investigated expediently and easily. In the course of the research, the output power of solar array is calculated for five airship’s latitudes of 0°, 15°, 30°, 45° and 60°, four special dates and different attitudes of five pitch angles and four yaw angles. The effect of these factors on output performance is discussed in detail. The results are helpful for solving the energy problem of the long endurance airship and planning the airline.

        중국 대학의 효율성 분석 : 산동성을 중심으로

        1990년 이후 중국 고등교육기관의 증가와 함께 대학의 효율성에 대한 관심도 높아지게 되었다. 초기에는 주로 985공정대학, 211공정대학과 같은 교육부 직속의 대학을 위주로 이루어져왔으며 과학기술 분야의 연구 효율에 대한 분석에 집중되는 경향이 나타났다. 이 연구는 산동성 지역 51개 일반 4년제 대학의 상대적 효율성과 특성별 효율성을 분석하는데 그 목적이 있다. 대학의 특성을 설립, 건설 프로젝트, 유형, 소재지, 규모로 분류하였다. 이를 위하여 CCR-BCC 모형, EBM 모형, 초효율 DEA 모형, 초효율 EBM 모형 등을 사용하였다. 분석 결과, 산동성 대학 중에 약 1.96~39.22% 정도는 비효율적으로 운영되고 있고, 평균 효율성 값은 0.98 이상으로 나타났다. 즉, 산동성 대학들은 대체로 비효율적인 대학의 분포가 높으며 과도한 투입 혹은 산출 부족의 문제가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 설립별로 독립학교의 효율성이 가장 높고, 민판대학의 효율성은 독립 학교보다 약간 낮은 것을 알 수 있으며, 공립대학의 효율성이 가장 낮은 수준으로 나타났다. 건설 프로젝트별 대학을 비교해본 결과, 985대학들의 효율성이 가장 높고, 유형별 대학의 효율성을 분석해본 결과, 의·약대학의 효율성이 가장 높았고 종합대학, 공과대학, 그리고 기타 대학순서로 나타났다. 성도에 있는 대학들은 일반 도시에 있는 대학보다 효율성이 높은 것으로 확인되었으며, 대학규모가 클수록 효율성이 낮아지는 경향을 보였다. The article collects the material and data in 51 universities issued by Shandong Provincial Education Department. The efficiency analysis is completed by adopting the DEA model. The analysis results are, it is found out in the analysis which is carried out by adopting the CCR model, BCC model and EBM model that in 2015, the efficiency value of nearly 60.78%~98.04% of 51 universities in Shandong province is 1, and the average value of these efficiencies is above 0.98. The overall education efficiency of Shandong province is relatively high, but a majority of these universities do not realize the optimal allocation of resources, consequently, the low efficiency value is inevitable. The efficiency value of private colleges is slightly lower than that of independent colleges and the efficiency value of public colleges is the lowest. It is found out in the analysis of different disciplines that the efficiency value of the medical category is the highest, the second one the integrated category, the efficiency value of the science and technology category ranks third and the efficiency of other categories is the lowest; it is found put in the analysis of the location of university and colleges that the efficiency of the university and colleges in provincial capital is higher than that of those in non-provincial capital; in terms of the scale, the efficiency value of the small colleges and universities is the highest, the medium-sized colleges and universities rank the second and the efficiency of large universities and colleges is the lowest.
