Shuai Yuan,Weizhen Chen,Fan Yang,Tiantao He,Guoxian Liu 한국강구조학회 2019 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.19 No.6
Ling Bridge, built in 1936, is an old half-through riveted steel arch bridge with rigid hangers and a fl oating deck system. The eff ects of various factors, such as temperature, vehicle load, and crowd load, have caused large additional stresses on the rigid hangers. According to the inspection in 2011, the bridge was in a dangerous state. Therefore, improving the structural strength of the bridge and prolonging the service life for another 40 years while protecting the cultural relic were major problems. This study analyzes rigid hangers on the premise that the reinforcement schemes of other bridge components have been determined. First, the damage situation, material properties and mechanical behaviors of old hangers are evaluated. Second, an appropriate reinforcement method is proposed. Third, mechanical and fatigue analyses are conducted on the new structures to prove the rationality of the reinforcement method. For the undemolished old structures, a fracture assessment of existing damage is performed to obtain the evolution laws and ensure safety. Finite element calculations and fatigue fracture analyses show that the proposed reinforcement method for the hanger system can reduce all hangers’ stresses eff ectively to prolong service life and protect the cultural relic.

Background: Ginsenosides are the major effective ingredients responsible for the pharmacological effects of ginseng. Malonyl ginsenosides are natural ginsenosides that contain a malonyl group attached to a glucose unit of the corresponding neutral ginsenosides. Methods: Medium-pressure liquid chromatography and semipreparative high-performance liquid chromatography were used to isolate purified compounds and their structures determined by extensive one-dimensional- and two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments. Results: A new saponin, namely malonyl-ginsenoside Re, was isolated from the fresh flower buds of Panax ginseng, along with malonyl-ginsenosides Rb1, Rb2, Rc, Rd. Some assignments for previously published ¹H- and 13C-NMR spectra were found to be inaccurate. Conclusion: This study reports the complete NMR assignment of malonyl-ginsenoside Re, Rb₁, Rb₂, Rc, and Rd for the first time.

Li-Ting Liu,Qiu-Yan Chen,Lin-Quan Tang,Shan-Shan Guo,Ling Guo,Hao-Yuan Mo,Ming-Yuan Chen,Chong Zhao,Xiang Guo,Chao-Nan Qian,Mu-Sheng Zeng,Jin-Xin Bei,Jing Tan,Shuai Chen,Ming-Huang Hong,Jian-Yong Shao 대한암학회 2018 Cancer Research and Treatment Vol.50 No.1
Purpose This study was conducted to evaluate the prognostic value of treatment-related lymphopenia in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Materials and Methods A total of 413 consecutive stage II-IVb NPC patients treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) were enrolled. The overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), and distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) were calculated with the Kaplan-Meier method, and differences were compared using the log-rank test. Results A minimum (mini)–absolute lymphocyte counts (ALC) of < 390 cells/μL or ALC after 3 months of CCRT (post3m-ALC) < 705 cells/μL was significantly associated with worse outcome than mini-ALC ! 390 cells/μL (OS, p=0.002; PFS, p=0.005; DMFS, p=0.004) or post3m-ALC ! 705 cells/μL (OS, p < 0.001; PFS, p < 0.001; DMFS, p=0.001). Patients with lymphopenia (mini-ALC < 390 cells/μL and post3m-ALC < 705 cells/μL) had a worse prognosis than those without lymphopenia (mini-ALC ! 390 cells/μL and post3m-ALC ! 705 cells/μL) (OS, p < 0.001; PFS, p < 0.001; DMFS, p < 0.001). Multivariate analysis revealed that post3m-ALC was an independent prognostic factor for OS (hazard ratio [HR], 1.76; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.12 to 2.78; p=0.015), PFS (HR, 1.86; 95% CI, 1.23 to 2.82; p=0.003), and DMFS (HR, 1.87; 95% CI, 1.13 to 3.08; p=0.014). Multivariate analysis also revealed that patients with lymphopenia had a high risk of death (HR, 3.79; 95% CI, 1.75 to 8.19; p=0.001), disease progression (HR, 2.93; 95% CI, 1.59 to 5.41; p=0.001), and distant metastasis (HR, 3.89; 95% CI, 1.67 to 9.10; p=0.002). Multivariate analysis performed with time dependent Cox regression demonstrated ALC was an independent prognostic factor for OS (HR, 0.995; 95% CI, 0.991 to 0.999; p=0.025) and PFS (HR, 0.993; 95% CI, 0.988 to 0.998; p=0.006). Conclusion Treatment-related lymphopenia was a poor prognostic factor in NPC patients.

Zhu Guanghui,Liu Lunan,Mao Yuzhou,Zhang Xinjun,Guo Yaoyao,Ai Lin,Jiang Runhao,Qin Chengming,Zhang Wei,Yang Hua,Yuan Shuai,Wang Lei,Ju Songqing,Wang Yongsheng,Sun Xuan,Yang Zhida,Wang Jinxin,Cheng Yan 한국원자력학회 2023 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.55 No.2
The EAST ICRF system operating space has been extended in power and phase control with a low-level RF system for the new double-strap antenna. Then the multi-step power and periodic phase scanning experiment were conducted in L-mode plasma, respectively. In the power scanning experiment, the stored energy, radiation power, plasma impedance and the antenna's temperature all have positive responses during the short ramp-ups of PL;ICRF. The core ion temperature increased from 1 keV to 1.5 keV and the core heating area expanded from jZj 5 cmto jZj 10 cm during the injection of ICRF waves. In the phasing scanning experiment, in addition to the same conclusions as the previous relatively phasing scanning experiment, the superposition effect of the fluctuation of stored energy, radiation power and neutron yield caused by phasing change with dual antenna, resulting in the amplitude and phase shift, was also observed. The active control of RF output facilitates the precise control of plasma profiles and greatly benefits future experimental exploration.

Sheath blight disease (ShB) severely afects rice production; however, the details of defense against ShB remain unclear. To understand the rice defense mechanism against ShB, an RNA sequencing analysis was performed using Rhizoctonia solani inoculated rice leaves after 48 h of inoculation. Among them, 3417 genes were upregulated and 2532 were downregulated when compared with the control group (>twofold or<1/2). In addition, the diferentially expressed genes were classifed via Gene Ontology (GO), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), and MapMan analyses. Fifty-nine GO terms and seven KEGG pathways were signifcantly enriched. A MapMan analysis demonstrated that the phytohormone and metabolic pathways were signifcantly altered. Interestingly, the expression levels of 359 transcription factors, including WRKY, MYB, and NAC family members, as well as 239 transporter genes, including ABC, MFS, and SWEET, were signifcantly changed in response to R. solani AG1-IA inoculation. Additionally, OsWRKY53 and OsAKT1 negatively regulate the defense response in rice against R. solani via gain of function study for OsWRKY53 and loss of function study for OsAKT1, respectively. Furthermore, several diferentially expressed genes contain R. solani-responsive cis acting regulatory elements in their promoter regions. Taken together, our analyses provide valuable information for the additional study of the defense mechanisms against ShB, and the candidate genes identifed in this study will be useful resource for future breeding to enhance resistance against ShB.

To investigate 1α,25-(OH)2D3 regulation of matrixmetalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) protein expression duringosteoclast formation and differentiation, receptor activator ofnuclear factor κB ligand (RANKL) and macrophagecolony-stimulating factor (M-CSF) were administered toinduce the differentiation of RAW264.7 cells into osteoclasts. The cells were incubated with different concentrations of1α,25-(OH)2D3 during culturing, and cell proliferation wasmeasured using the methylthiazol tetrazolium method. Osteoclast formation was confirmed using tartrate-resistantacid phosphatase (TRAP) staining and assessing bone lacunarresorption. MMP-9 protein expression levels were measuredwith Western blotting. We showed that 1α,25-(OH)2D3inhibited RAW264.7 cell proliferation induced by RANKLand M-CSF, increased the numbers of TRAP-positiveosteoclasts and their nuclei, enhanced osteoclast boneresorption, and promoted MMP-9 protein expression in aconcentration-dependent manner. These findings indicatethat 1α,25-(OH)2D3 administered at a physiological relevantconcentration promoted osteoclast formation and couldregulate osteoclast bone metabolism by increasing MMP-9protein expression during osteoclast differentiation.

Red mud and coal gangue are industrial solid wastes discharged during alumina extraction and coalmining, respectively. As these are hazardous materials, their disposal leads to serious environmentalissues. In this study, an innovative utilization of red mud through co-roasting with coal gangue forseparation and recycling of iron and aluminum minerals is presented. Under optimum co-roastingconditions (550 C for 50 min), an iron concentrate containing 57.25% TFe (total iron content) with therecovery of 65.22%, and an aluminum-rich product containing 27.26% Al2O3 with the recovery of 71.37%were obtained after magnetic separation. The characteristics of mixed raw material and products allindicated that the goethite and hematite phases in the mixed raw material were transformed into amagnetite phase after co-roasting, although some of the magnetite generated during co-roasting wasoxidized to hematite again. This study demonstrates that co-roasting of coal gangue and red mud is apromising technology for the reduction of iron and activation of aluminum to realize resource recyclingwithout additional materials

Beauvericin (BEA) is a proven and potent antibiotic compound useful for bio-control and a potential antifungal and anticancer agent for human. This study was to evaluate and optimize the nutrient medium for BEA production in mycelial liquid culture of a high BEAproducing fungus Fusarium redolens Dzf2 isolated from a medicinal plant. Among various organic and inorganic carbon and nitrogen sources, glucose and peptone were found the most favorable for the F. redolens Dzf2 mycelial growth and BEA production. Through a Plackett-Burman screening test on a basal medium, glucose, peptone, and medium pH were identified as the significant factors for mycelial growth and BEA production. These factors were optimized through central composite design of experiments and response surface methodology, as 49.0 g/L glucose,13.0 g/L peptone and pH 6.6, yielding 198 mg/L BEA (versus 156 mg/L in the basal medium). The BEA yield was further increased to 234 mg/L by feeding 10 g/L glucose to the culture during exponential phase. The results show that F. redolens Dzf2 mycelial fermentation is a feasible and promising process for production of BEA.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether osteoprotegerin (OPG) could affect osteoclat differentiation and activation under serum-free conditions. Both duck embryo bone marrow cells and RAW264.7 cells were incubated with macrophage colony stimulatory factor (M-CSF) and receptor activator for nuclear factor κB ligand (RANKL) in serum-free medium to promote osteoclastogenesis. During cultivation, 0,10, 20, 50, and 100 ng/mL OPG were added to various groups of cells. Osteoclast differentiation and activation were monitored via tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) staining,filamentous-actin rings analysis, and a bone resorption assay. Furthermore, the expression osteoclast-related genes, such as TRAP and receptor activator for nuclear factor κB (RANK),that was influenced by OPG in RAW264.7 cells was examined using real-time polymerase chain reaction. In summary, findings from the present study suggested that M-CSF with RANKL can promote osteoclast differentiation and activation, and enhance the expression of TRAP and RANK mRNA in osteoclasts. In contrast, OPG inhibited these activities under serum-free conditions.
