ABSTRACT This study was conducted to determine influence of planting date, seeding rate and phosphate rate on main growth, characters, yield and chemical composition of senna from March 11, 1998 to December in Cheju Province. Days to flowering was lessened as planting date was delayed. The plant height of senna was the longest at 31 March planting (99cm) than at the other planting date. Stem diameter, number of leaves were increased at 31 March but number of branches was not affected by planting date. And number of withering leaves were increased as planting date was earlier. Fresh forage yield per lOa, for senna was the greatest (4,660kg) at 31 March planting, the second was 4,397kg at 1 April planting and the reduced the 3,473kg at 11 March planting. Also dry matter yield per lOa, crude protein yield and total digestable nutrient (TDN) yield was nearly the same tendency. Crude protein, crude fat percent was the greastest at 11 March planting and than decreased with further increased at planting date. Crude ash and crude fiber percent was decreased tendency as planting date was delayed. Nitrogen free extract (NFE), TDN percent was increased tendency as planting date was delayed. SPAD reading value of leaves had an efficiency increased as planting date was delayed.

The purpose of this study was to investigate longitudinal growth and development of young children and follow-up effects of the educare program in the PNU Day Care Center. Particularly, the first objective of this second report of study was the comparison the entire domains of development with age between the Oct. of 1995 and the Dec. of 1998. The second objective was to analyze the developmental .changes of 5 children who entered the center in 4 years old since Oct. 1995. The subjects of this study were 448 children(241 boys, 207 girls). The instruments of this study were the KISC and KEDl-WISC(for intelligence test), the Learning Readiness Test, the Social and Emotional Scale, Height Scale and Weight Scale( for physical growth). The tests were carried out 2 times per year (the early of the year and the late of the year). Results from comparsion across the 1st through 7th tests during 3 years indicated that the mean of the height was increased about 1-8cm for all of 2-5 years old children. The mean of the weight also was increased about 1.5-4.0kg except 2 years old children. The intelligence score (T score) by KISC was increased around 6-42 points except 6 years old boys and girls. In the intelligence score by KEDl, there was improvements of average 8 points for 7 years old children. In the learning Readiness Test of 5, 6 years old children, the scores all of children except 6 years old girls got were decreased. The scores of 6 years old girls were incresed 6 points in the Dec. of 1998. In the Social and Emotional Scale, there was big improvement of scores between in the 1st test and in the 7th test. These results were discussed in the view of sample size, developmental characteristics, test instruments and educare program of the PNU day care center.

The aims of this study are 1) to construct a database using geostatistics and Geographic Information System (GIS), and 2) to derive the spatial relationships between manganese nodule abundance and other geological factors such as metal grade, slope, water depth, topography, and acoustic characteristics of the sub-bottom. Using GIS, it is possible to analyze a large amount of data efficiently, and to maximize the practical application, to increase specialization, and to enhance the accuracy of the analyses. The greater the copper and nickel grade, the higher the rating. The distribution pattern of nickel grade is similar to that of copper grade. The slopes are generally less than $3^{\circ}$ except for seamounts and cliff areas. The rating shows no correlation with slope. The rating is highest for slopes between 2.5 and $3.5^{\circ}$ in block N1 and between 4.0 and $4.5^{\circ}$ in block N3. The topography is classified into five groups: seamount, hill crest, hill slant, hill base or plain, and seafloor basin or valley. The rating proves lowest for seamount and hill crest. Our results show that the rating increases with the water depth in the study area. Nodule abundance dose not show any significant relationship with the thickness of the upper transparent layer in the study area.

<P>A high-speed waveguide photodetector has been successfully fabricated for an integrated coherent receiver. Dual laterally tapered structures are introduced for a spot-size converter. We optimize the responsivity and the polarization-dependent loss of the spot-size converter-integrated waveguide photodetector through the beam propagation method simulation. The waveguide photodetector is designed with electrical as well as optical optimizations. The photodetector provides sufficient alignment tolerance, high responsivity of 0.73 A/ W, and low polarization-dependent loss of 0.27 dB, which is in good agreement with the simulation results. By increasing the thickness of the matching layer and the n-doped upper taper, the electrical properties of the photodetector are enhanced. The photodetector has a 3 dB bandwidth of 45 GHz, providing high-speed operation. Through the electrical and optical optimizations, we successfully obtain the high-speed waveguide photodetector for a 64 Gbaud integrated coherent receiver. (C) 2018 Optical Society of America</P>

<P>Background/Aim: We investigated the expression of hepatitis B virus (HBV) covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA) and HBV X protein (HBx) in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and evaluated the effect of high-concentration nucleos(t)ide analogs (NUCs) on liver tumor cell lines. Materials and Methods: This study consisted of three parts: part I used human blood and non-tumor liver tissues; part II used human HCC and adjacent liver tissues; and part III used an HBV-expressing liver tumor cell line. Results: There were close correlations among blood and liver HBV DNA and liver cccDNA. HBV cccDNA and HBx were highly up-regulated in HCC compared to adjacent liver tissues despite NUC therapy. HBV cccDNA and HBx were highly up-regulated in the cccDNA-expressing HepG2.2.15 cell line. Their expression was down-regulated and apoptosis was induced by a very high concentration of NUCs in dose-and time-dependent manner. Conclusion: Very high concentrations of NUCs may have a novel potential to kill replicating HBV-expressing liver tumor cells.</P>
