Farm animals such as piglets are often affected by environmental stress, which can disturb the gut ecosystem. Antibiotics were commonly used to prevent diarrhea in weaned piglets, but this was banned by the European Union due to the development of antibiotic resistance. However, the use of probiotics instead of antibiotics may reduce the risk posed by pathogenic microorganisms and reduce the incidence of gastrointestinal diseases. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the effects of Lactobacillus casei Zhang on the mechanical barrier and immune function of early-weaned piglets infected using Escherichia coli K88 based on histomorphology and immunology. Fourteen-day-old weaned piglets were divided into a control group and experimental groups that were fed L. casei Zhang and infected with E. coli K88 with or without prefeeding and/or postfeeding of L. casei Zhang. The L. casei Zhang dose used was 107 CFU/g diet. Jejunum segments were obtained before histological, immunohistochemical, and western blot analyses were performed. In addition, the relative mRNA expression of toll receptors and cytokines was measured. Piglets fed L. casei Zhang showed significantly increased jejunum villus height, villus height-crypt depth ratio, muscle thickness, and expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen and tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin. The use of L. casei Zhang effectively reduced intestinal inflammation after infection. We found that L. casei Zhang feeding prevented the jejunum damage induced by E. coli K88, suggesting that it may be a potential alternative to antibiotics for preventing diarrhea in early-weaned piglets.

The molecular genetic diversity of 404 indigenous landraces from sesame core collection in China were evaluated by 11SRAP and 3 SSR markers, 175 fragments were generated, of which 126 were polymorphic with an average polymorphism rate of 72%. Jaccard’s genetic similarity coefficients (GS=0.7130), Nei's gene diversity (h=0.2418) and Shannon's Information index (I=0.3847) were calculated, a dendrogram of the 404 landraces was made, landraces from various zones were distributed throughout the dendrogram, accessions from different agro‐ecological zones were indistinguishable by cluster analysis, geographical separation did not generally result in greater genetic distance, a similar pattern was obtained using principal coordinates (PCO) analysis. As to seven agro‐ecological zones, the maximum Nei’s gene diversity (h = 0.2613)and Shannon index (I = 0.3980) values in zone VII indicated that they were genetically more diverse than those in other zones, while the least genetically diverse region was zone III (h = 0.1772, I = 0.2858). Nei's genetic identity and genetic distance among landraces from seven agro‐ecological zones were also analyzed, the genetic relationship of seven zones was inferred using the UPGMA method. This study demonstrated that SRAP and SSR markers were appropriate for evaluation of sesame genetic diversities. There existed extensive genetic diverse among indigenous landraces and the abundance of genetic diversity of landraces in different agro‐ecological zones was various. Understanding of these characteristics of indigenous landraces in China can provide theoretical foundation for further collection, effective protection and reasonable utilization of these sesame landraces in breeding.

As the storage capacity of a computer system is rapidly increasing and the cost of computer hardware is decreasing continuously, users can easily manage multimedia data on the personal computer. Especially, various image view programs are widely used to manage image files at the present time. However, since most of these programs do not use a database management system(DBMS), it is very difficult for users to use them efficiently. In this paper, we designed and implemented a Digital Album by using an object-relational database management system, called PARODY(Persistent, Almost, Relational Object Database sYstem) that implements a persistent object database with a relatively simple interface to its C++ class library. Since PARODY is used as a data storage manager of the Digital Album, users can manage(i.e., insert, update, and delete) an image database and search for the required image data from the image database easily. In addition, we use OWL(Object Windows Library) of Borland C++ to implement the user interface of the Digital Album efficiently.

A new ent-kaurane type diterpenoid glycoside, 17-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-16α-ent-kauran-19-oic acid (1), together with 17-hydroxy-16α-ent-kauran-19-oic acid (2), 16α,17-dihydroxyl-ent-kauran-19-oic acid (3), and 16α-hydroxy-17-acetoxy-ent- kauran-19-oic acid (4) were isolated from the aerial parts of Inula japonica Thunb. The structure of 1 was determined mainly by use of 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic techniques including HSQC, 1H-1H COSY, HMBC, and NOESY. In addition, 4 exhibited significant inhibitory activity on NO production in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells with IC50 value of 14.3 μg/mL.
Selecting a Location for a City Logistics Facility

The strategic location of city logistics facilities may help to establish more efficient urban logistics systems, reduce social and environmental costs of urban freight transport, and improve urban traffic conditions. In addition, it may allow a number of shippers or freight carriers to jointly operate freight vehicles and terminals or information systems while allowing them to have the capability to provide higher levels of services to their customers. This paper considers the problem of selecting a location for a city logistics facility while considering linguistic factors. This paper identifies the important factors in the selection of a location for a city logistics facility by performing a case study which applies the analytic hierarchy process method on data from Chongqing, China. The optimal location in Chongqing is then determined by using the fuzzy synthetic evaluation method. The results of this paper are expected to help municipal governments select appropriate locations for city logistics facilities and quantify the advantages and disadvantages of alternative locations.

There are a large number of concrete bonding interfaces in assembled concrete structures. Moreover, the problems of deformation and coordination at the interfaces lead to weak bonding under shrinkage and creep. The theoretical methods and analytical solutions for the long-term performance of composite structures in recent literatures are relatively complicated for the review or optimization in the design stage. Hence, a method for calculating the mid-span deflection of and the cross-sectional stress on composite beams under shrinkage and creep was developed based on the average curvature method. The calculation method was then verified by the experiments and the numerical simulations. Further, factors affecting the deflection of and the stress on the assembled concrete composite beams, including the loading age, the reinforcement ratio, the section dimensions, and the surface area in contact with the atmosphere were analyzed by using the developed method. The results revealed that the adjustment of the section dimensions and the loading time is the effective optimization approach. A framework for review or optimization of composite concrete beams based on the sensitivity analysis is proposed and a case study is carried out. The results of this work can helpfully be used to control the risk of additional deflections or cracking during the long-term operation of buildings.

<P>Matricellular protein SPON2 acts as an HCC suppressor and utilizes distinct signaling events to perform dual functions in HCC microenvironment.</P><P>Tumor-associated macrophages (TAM) represent key regulators of the complex interplay between cancer and the immune microenvironment. Matricellular protein SPON2 is essential for recruiting lymphocytes and initiating immune responses. Recent studies have shown that SPON2 has complicated roles in cell migration and tumor progression. Here we report that, in the tumor microenvironment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), SPON2 not only promotes infiltration of M1-like macrophages but also inhibits tumor metastasis. SPON2-α4β1 integrin signaling activated RhoA and Rac1, increased F-actin reorganization, and promoted M1-like macrophage recruitment. F-Actin accumulation also activated the Hippo pathway by suppressing LATS1 phosphorylation, promoting YAP nuclear translocation, and initiating downstream gene expression. However, SPON2-α5β1 integrin signaling inactivated RhoA and prevented F-actin assembly, thereby inhibiting HCC cell migration; the Hippo pathway was not noticeably involved in SPON2-mediated HCC cell migration. In HCC patients, SPON2 levels correlated positively with prognosis. Interrelationship of Stock Prices in Asian Markets and the Financial Crises

In this paper, the linkage between stock prices for Asian markets such as Japan, Singapore, South Korea, India, the Chinese mainland, and Hong Kong is analyzed, as are the influences of the Asian financial crisis and the global financial crisis on the Asian stock markets. The analyses demonstrate that the effects of the Japanese stock market and the Singapore stock market on the Asian markets are great, while the Chinese mainland market and the India market are little affected by the other markets. On the whole, it has been revealed that the interdependence in stock prices among the Asian markets has increased since the global financial crisis.
