2021 Asia-Pacific Journal of Business Vol.12 No.3

Purpose - In this study, we investigate the effects of government environmental subsidies and the globalization Chinese firms on their profitability using return on assets (ROA). Design/methodology/approach - In this study, a merged data including accounting, financial market, subsidization of the Chinese governments, local and the central, and export activities of 19,563 year-firms, for those listed on Shanghai Stock and Shenzhen Stock Exchange for 11 years from 2008 to 2018 is used. We collect subsidy data from RESSET database and financial data from CSMAR database. Then, we empirically test the test hypotheses using fixed effects models (FEM) separately and in a simultaneous equation model (SEM). Findings Firstly, the globalization of Chinese firms has a negative impact on their profitability for some years after the year. Secondly, environmental subsidies just like other subsidies have ameliorating effects on financial performance for global firms. Such effects have lasted some years. Thirdly, environmental investments have a mostly negative impact on short- and long-term profitability for global firms. Lastly, the government s environmental subsidies in China have a positive effect on their profitability for both global and domestic firms. Research implications or Originality We can infer that environmental investments with the help of the governmental subsidies can help Chinese firms deploy global strategies to expand markets to surpass competitors in the long run despite worsening profitability in global markets in the short run.

Four-Hour Fasting for Semifluids and 2-Hour Fasting for Water Improves the Patient Experience of Esophagogastroduodenoscopy: A Randomized Controlled Trial

        Cai Meng-Xi,Gao Ye,Li Li,Feng Wen,Wang Yi-Lin,Li Zhao-Shen,Xin Lei,Wang Luo-Wei 거트앤리버 소화기연관학회협의회 2023 Gut and Liver Vol.17 No.3

Background/Aims: We aimed to investigate the comfort, safety, and endoscopic visibility during esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) afforded by a modified 4-hour semifluid and 2-hour water (“4+2”) fasting protocol. Methods: In this parallel group, endoscopist-blinded, randomized controlled trial, outpatients undergoing unsedated diagnostic EGD from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM were randomly assigned to either a “4+2” protocol group or a conventional fasting group. The participants’ comfort during the fasting period and procedure was measured using the visual analog scale, and mucosal visibility was measured by endoscopists using the total visibility score. Satisfaction was defined as a visual analog scale score of ≤3. The primary outcome was the participants’ comfort during fasting. Results: One hundred and six and 108 participants were randomized to the “4+2” protocol and control groups, respectively. Participants’ comfort before EGD was significantly higher in the “4+2” protocol group measured by both the proportion of satisfaction (86.8% vs 63.9%, p=0.002) and the visual analog scale score (median [interquartile range]: 1.0 [1.0–2.0] vs 3.0 [1.0–4.0], p<0.001). The proportion of satisfaction during EGD also significantly improved (59.4% vs 45.4%, p=0.039) in the “4+2” protocol group. The total visibility score was unaffected by the fasting protocol (5.0 [4.0–5.0] vs 4.0 [4.0–5.0], p=0.266). No adverse events were observed during the study. Conclusions: The “4+2” protocol was more comfortable and provided equal mucosal visibility and safety compared with conventional fasting for unsedated EGD. (

Fermented cottonseed meal improves production performance and reduces fat deposition in broiler chickens

        Niu Jun Li,Wei Lian Qing,Luo Yuan Qing,Yang Wen Ting,Lu Qi Cheng,Zheng Xin Xia,Niu Yu Jie,Sheng Wen,Cheng Hong,Zhang Wen Ju,Nie Cun Xi 아세아·태평양축산학회 2021 Animal Bioscience Vol.34 No.4

Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the effect of fermented cottonseed meal (FCSM) on growth performance, carcass traits, and fat deposition in white-feather broiler chickens. Methods: A total of 480 male one-day-old white-feather broiler chickens were selected randomly and divided into four groups with six replicates of 20 chickens in each. The experimental chickens were fed diets including 3%, 6%, or 9% FCSM fermented by Candida tropicalis until 42 days old. In the experiment, the chickens of the control group were fed soybean meal. Results: FCSM supplementation linearly decreased the feed conversion ratio from d 15 to 21 and d 36 to 42, respectively (p<0.05). The percentage of carcass and semi-eviscerate increased in response to dietary FCSM supplementation at d 21 (p<0.05). The percentage of eviscerated and semi-eviscerate of 3FCSM was higher than that in other groups at d 35 (p<0.05). At the age of 42 d, the percentage of carcass increased in a quadratic way among increasing FCSM in diets (p<0.05). The subcutaneous fat thickness linearly decreased with the increasing levels of FCSM at d 21 (p<0.05). Gompertz and Logistic functions provided a better fit on abdominal fat and subcutaneous fat, respectively. The best fitted equation predicted that the maximum growth rate of abdominal fat weight and subcutaneous fat thickness occurred at d 28. FCSM had no significant effects on the shape of growth curve of abdominal fat weight and subcutaneous fat thickness, but reduced the height of the curve. Birds receiving the 6FCSM diet for 21 d had smaller adipocyte surface and lower serum glucose as well as triglyceride concentration. Conclusion: FCSM is beneficial for broiler chickens as it positively affects their growth and carcass in addition to altering their fat deposition. Mixtures of Tea and Citrus maxima (pomelo) Alleviate Lipid Deposition in HepG2 Cells Through the AMPK/ACC Signaling Pathway

        Ran An,Shuai Wen,Dong-Li Li,Qiu-Hua Li,Xing-Fei Lai,Wen-Ji Zhang,Ruo-Hong Chen,Jun-Xi Cao,Zhi-Gang Li,Qiu-Sheng Huang,Ling-Li Sun,Shi-Li Sun 한국식품영양과학회 2020 Journal of medicinal food Vol.23 No.9

Tea and citrus maxima are natural, medicinal homologous plants, typically used for making beverages, which have anticancer, antiobesity, and antioxidation properties. Green tea, yellow tea, and black tea were combined with citrus maxima to obtain green tea and Citrus maxima (GTCM), yellow tea and Citrus maxima (YTCM), and black tea and Citrus maxima (BTCM). The biochemical components of these mixtures were analyzed, and their possible effects and mechanisms on relieving liver lipid deposition were explored. The tea polyphenols, free amino acids, phenolamine ratio, and caffeine were comparable in YTCM and GTCM, being significantly higher than those in BTCM. In addition, the content of esterified catechins, nonesterified catechins, and total catechins in YTCM was significantly higher than those in GTCM and BTCM. All three mixtures of Citrus maxima tea significantly reduced lipid deposition in HepG2 cells, with GTCM and YTCM being slightly more effective than BTCM. Regarding the possible mechanism, Western blot analysis revealed that the three Citrus maxima tea mixtures could activate the AMPK/ACC signaling pathway, upregulate the expression of p-AMPK, p-ACC, and CPT-1 proteins, and downregulate the expression of SREBP1c and fatty acid synthase proteins to inhibit fat synthesis, thereby relieving lipid deposition in liver cells. In conclusion, as a novel and healthy beverage, Citrus maxima tea has the potential to alleviate liver lipid deposition, and further could be responsible for obesity treatment.

Investigation on Machining Characteristic of Pneumatic Wheel based on Softness Consolidation Abrasives

Xi Zeng,Shi-ming Ji,Ming-sheng Jin,Da-peng Tan,Jue-hui Li,Wen-tao Zeng 한국정밀공학회 2014 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol. No.

In order to improve material removal rate of laser hardening workpiece and also make machining tool suitable for free-form surface,a new method based on the softness consolidation abrasives (SCA) is put forward, which means the abrasives are consolidated onthe outer layer of pneumatic wheel to achieve the softness-machining. Binder selecting test shows that acidic silicone is proved tosuit for consolidating particles in cutting process. Combined with robot, the machining system has been established. The machiningeffects of SCA are investigated when it faces with workpiece of different hardness. According to the Preston predicted model, thesimulation results of stress and velocity are proven by analysis of average roughness in the contact region. The contrastive machiningexperimental results show that SCA can supply high cutting stress for material removal and fit for freeform surface’s machining byself-adjustment of flexible body.

Apatinib Combined with Local Irradiation Leads to Systemic Tumor Control via Reversal of Immunosuppressive Tumor Microenvironment in Lung Cancer

        Li-jun Liang,Chen-xi Hu,Yi-xuan Wen,Xiao-wei Geng,Ting Chen,Guo-qing Gu,Lei Wang,You-you Xia,Yong Liu,Jia-yan Fei,Jie Dong,Feng-hua Zhao,Yiliyar Ahongjiang,Kai-yuan Hui,Xiao-dong Jiang 대한암학회 2020 Cancer Research and Treatment Vol.52 No.2

Purpose This study aimed to investigate the potential systemic antitumor effects of stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) and apatinib (a novel vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 inhibitor) via reversing the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment for lung carcinoma. Materials and Methods Lewis lung cancer cells were injected into C57BL/6 mice in the left hindlimb (primary tumor; irradiated) and in the right flank (secondary tumor; nonirradiated). When both tumors grew to the touchable size, mice were randomly divided into eight treatment groups. These groups received normal saline or three distinct doses of apatinib (50 mg/kg, 150 mg/kg, and 200 mg/kg) daily for 7 days, in combination with a single dose of 15 Gy radiotherapy or not to the primary tumor. The further tumor growth/regression of mice were followed and observed. Results For the single 15 Gy modality, tumor growth delay could only be observed at the primary tumor. When combining SABR and apatinib 200 mg/kg, significant retardation of both primary and secondary tumor growth could be observed, indicated an abscopal effect was induced. Mechanism analysis suggested that programmed death-ligand 1 expression increased with SABR was counteract by additional apatinib therapy. Furthermore, when apatinib was combined with SABR, the composition of immune cells could be changed. More importantly, this two-pronged approach evoked tumor antigen–specific immune responses and the mice were resistant to another tumor rechallenge, finally, long-term survival was improved. Conclusion Our results suggested that the tumor microenvironment could be managed with apatinib, which was effective in eliciting an abscopal effect induced by SABR.

HPLC Determination of Malondialdehyde in ECV304 Cell Culture Medium for Measuring the Antioxidant Effect of Vitexin-4"-O-glucoside

        Xi-xiang Ying,Hai-bo Li,Zheng-yun Chu,Yan-jun Zhai,Ai-jing Leng,Xun Liu,Wen-jie Zhang,Ting-guo Kang,Chun Xin 대한약학회 2008 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.31 No.7

To investigate the antioxidant effect of vitexin-4"-O-glucoside, a flavone glycoside, isolated from the leaves of Crataegus pinnatifida Bge. var. major, we developed a simple and sensitive high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method to determine levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) in ECV304 cell culture medium after induction by tert-butyl-hydroperoxide (TBHP). The preparation of analyzed samples involved a one-step derivatization with thiobarbituric acid (TBA). HPLC analysis was performed on a SynergiTM Hydro-RP, a polar end-capped C18 column (250×4.6 mm, 4 μm), using an acetonitrile-ammonium acetate aqueous solution (10 mM, pH 6.8) as the mobile phase under linear gradient conditions with UV detection at 532 nm. The calibration curve was linear over 0.0125-1.25 μM MDA (r = 0.9951). Relative standard deviations (RSDs) of intra-day and inter-day precision were less than 6.1% and 5.0%, respectively. The mean recovery was 96.9 ± 1.6%. The lower limit of quantification (LLOQ) of MDA was 0.0125 μM. This chromatographic method was successfully applied to investigating the in vitro antioxidant effect of vitexin-4"-O-glucoside. Vitexin-4"-O-glucoside (120 M) protected ECV304 cells from peroxidation induced by TBHP.

Analytical Perturbation Methods for Studying a Transversely Isotropic Medium in Multipole Acoustic Logging

Li Zhang,Xi-Feng Liu,Wen Yuan,Xiao-Tian Wang 한국물리학회 2014 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.64 No.12

A new analytical perturbation method is developed in this study to investigate the general reflectioncoefficients in the frequency-wavenumber domain of the acoustic field in a fluid-filled boreholesurrounded by a transversely isotropic medium (TIM). The transversely isotropic medium with asymmetric axis parallel to the borehole axis, which is usually called a VTI medium, was adoptedbecause its exact solutions exists, and a corresponding isotropic medium was adopted as a referencestate of perturbation solution. The general reflection coefficients were originally calculated byusing the perturbation method and were compared with the analytical solutions. The zero-, firstandsecond-order perturbation solutions for the general reflection coefficients excited by monopole, dipole and quadrupole sources were investigated for a transversely isotropic elastic solid. The resultsshowed that the general reflection coefficients obtained by using the perturbation solutionsand the analytical solutions were similar for all three sources. In summary, our study demonstratedthat the perturbation method is valid and effective in acoustical logging. This work provided atheoretical foundation for extending perturbation analyses to complicated anisotropic acousticallogging applications.
