Determinants of Foreign Direct Investment: Evidence from Vietnam
NGO, Minh Ngoc,CAO, Huy Hoang,NGUYEN, Long Ngoc,NGUYEN, Thuc Ngoc Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.6
The paper investigates the determinants of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Vietnam in 2000-2019 period. This study uses difference Generalized Methods of Moments (GMM) and Pooled Mean Group (PMG) to analyse panel data officially provided by General Statistical Office of Vietnam. The results show that market size impacts positively significant on FDI attraction: 1% -1.45% (PMG) and 1% -1.25% (GMM). Besides, some other factors have positive influences as labor force, macroeconomic policy, macroeconomic stability and skilled labor. Meantime, the trade openness negatively affects FDI inflows in the short-term, while not being statistically significant in the long-term. Moreover, economic shocks often have a negative impact on FDI inflows. The findings of this study lead to the following recommendations. First, authorities should pay special attention to encourage economic growth rate in Vietnam to expand market size because this is the first priority of foreign investors. Second, authorities need to continue increasing the rate of skilled labor, especially highly qualified management force, engineers and well-skilled workers. Third, the authorities should adjust trade openness to boost the role of its determinant in attracting FDI inflows. Fourth, macroeconomic stability needs to be governed by international standards in order to secure the belief of foreign investors in the long-term.

Application of ANFIS to the design of elliptical CFST columns
Ngoc-Long Tran,Trong-Cuong Vo,Duy-Duan Nguyen,Van-Quang Nguyen,Huy-Khanh Dang,Viet-Linh Tran Techno-Press 2023 Advances in computational design Vol.8 No.2
Elliptical concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) column is widely used in modern structures for both aesthetical appeal and structural performance benefits. The ultimate axial load is a critical factor for designing the elliptical CFST short columns. However, there are complications of geometric and material interactions, which make a difficulty in determining a simple model for predicting the ultimate axial load of elliptical CFST short columns. This study aims to propose an efficient adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) model for predicting the ultimate axial load of elliptical CFST short columns. In the proposed method, the ANFIS model is used to establish a relationship between the ultimate axial load and geometric and material properties of elliptical CFST short columns. Accordingly, a total of 188 experimental and simulation datasets of elliptical CFST short columns are used to develop the ANFIS models. The performance of the proposed ANFIS model is compared with that of existing design formulas. The results show that the proposed ANFIS model is more accurate than existing empirical and theoretical formulas. Finally, an explicit formula and a Graphical User Interface (GUI) tool are developed to apply the proposed ANFIS model for practical use.

Engineering infrastructure includes a large number of concrete structures. The main binder used in concrete is Portland cement, which reacts with water when mixing. During the chemical reaction (cement hydration) heat is released causing non-uniform temperature distribution and subsequent internal stresses that may crack the concrete. Therefore, accurate prediction of concrete temperature evolution in design and control of concrete temperature in construction are crucial tasks for engineers. This paper presents the development of a finite difference (FD) model for predicting thermal behavior of concrete structures during cement hydration. A formwork or insulation layer that covers the outer of the concrete was accounted for in the model. The temperature profiles calculated by the proposed model show close agreement with those measured from a concrete bridge footing and a concrete cube. The Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm was adopted to compute an “equivalent convection coefficient” for the convection boundary condition in the simplified model for several common insulation materials. The results show that using the simplified model along with an equivalent convection coefficient can give a significant reduction in the computation time while the accuracy is still maintained. In addition, an equation for estimating an equivalent convection coefficient for a given insulation material was developed for design and practical purposes. The proposed method can be used in the design of concrete structures and control of concrete temperature to prevent early-age thermal cracking thus ensuring the expected durability and service life. From the obtained results, varying equivalent convection values are also recommended to be used for different insulation materials.
On the Structured Green Band in ZnO Nanowires
Nguyen Thi Thuc Hien,Ngo Xuan Dai,Nguyen Ngoc Long 한국물리학회 2008 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.52 No.5
ZnO nanowires have been synthesized by using the vapor evaporation method. The material source was ZnO powder mixed with graphite. The nanowires have the shape of long rods with diameters ranging from 100 to 300 nm and lengths of several tens of micrometers. The photolu- minescence (PL) was measured from 15 K to 300 K. At room temperature, the PL exhibited a relatively strong deep-level emission around 500 nm (green band) and a small UV emission peak at 380 nm (UV band). At low temperatures, the PL spectrum consisted of a group of sharp UV peaks and a smaller green band having the ne structure of a broad multiphonon side band. The ne structure was observed to include doublets at the higher energy side. The temperature dependences of the peak position and of the full width at half maximum height (FWHM) of the PL spectra for green band were investigated. The origin of the green band is attributed to a copper impurity. ZnO nanowires have been synthesized by using the vapor evaporation method. The material source was ZnO powder mixed with graphite. Taxus wallichiana Zucc. 현탁세포에서 Jasmonic Acid-Cellulase 복합 Elicitor가 Paclitaxel 생합성에 미치는 영향
Nguyen Ngoc Hoi,Hoang Van Luong,Nguyen Van Long,Vu Binh Duong,변상요(Sang Yo Byun) 한국생물공학회 2010 KSBB Journal Vol.25 No.2
Taxus wallichiana Zucc. Cell cultures of Taxus wallichiana Zucc. were made to enhance the production of anticancer agent paclitaxel. In suspension cultures, the maximum cell growth rate in exponential growth phase was 0.14 day-1 which was correlated to 4.96 days of cell doubling time. The production of paclitaxel was non-growth associated. The paclitaxel production was started after the exponential growth phase and increased to declined phase where the maximum concentration was observed. Various elicitors were tested to enhance the production of paclitaxel. The combination of two elicitors of jasmonic acid and cellulase increased the production of paclitaxel 1.8 and 3.1 times compared to paclitaxel production by individual elicitor respectively.

In this study, we proposed a straightforward electrospun polycaprolactone (PCL) loaded with silver nanoparticles (SNPs)membrane fabrication process, in which SNPs were directly synthesized from silver nitrate (AgNO3) in PCL–acetone mixtureby gamma irradiation. The insolubility of AgNO3in PCL solution was solved using an auxiliary dimethyl sulfoxide solvent. As a physical approach, gamma rays readily converted silver ions into SNPs without the addition of harmful reductionagents, which reduced the cytotoxicity of the synthesized material. By avoiding some processes such as purification, solventremoval, or redispersion of SNPs, this method was more time-saving compared to other related studies. SNPs formation wasconfirmed by both UV–Visible spectrum (UV–Vis) and X-ray diffraction analysis. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM)revealed that the addition of SNPs significantly reduced the fiber diameter of PCL–Ag membranes compared to that of rawPCL. Uniform spherical-shaped SNPs incorporated in PCL fibers were observed under transmission electron microscopy(TEM). The tensile test showed that the electrospun PCL–Ag membranes exhibited good mechanical characteristics. Moistureeasily penetrated the porous microstructure of PCL–Ag, facilitating wound humidity regulation. Inductively coupledplasma-mass spectroscopy (ICP-MS) was employed to study the release profiles of SNPs at different time intervals. Overall, the PCL–Ag 500 ppm sample exerted excellent antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcusaureus strains and low in vitro cytotoxicity.

In this paper, we investigate an initial boundary value problem for a nonlinear pseudoparabolic equation. At first, by applying the Faedo-Galerkin, we prove local existence and uniqueness results. Next, by constructing Lyapunov functional, we establish a sufficient condition to obtain the global existence and exponential decay of weak solutions.
