The present study was carried out to investigate the composition and the distribution of the macrobenthic polychaetous community around Sinan-Gun, on the south-western coast of Korea. An investigation on the macrobenthic polychaetous community in the study area was conducted in April of 2005. In the study area, benthic macrofaunal community was investigated on the base of the samples from 15 stations. The mean density of macrobenthic animals were 283 ind./㎡. There were 39 species and 144 ind./㎡ of polychaetes as the most major faunal group in the study area. At the region between Saok Is. and Ji Is., the density were higher, while lower at the other area of the study area. The most dominant benthic polychaetes in the study area was Pseudopolydora sp.(21 ind./㎡, 14.9%), and followed by unidentified Spionids(13 ind./㎡, 9.3%), Terebellides horikoshii(12 ind./㎡, 8.1%), Lumbrineris longifolia(11 ind./㎡, 7.9%), Heteromastus filiformis(9 ind./㎡, 6.0%), Tharyx sp.(9 ind./㎡, 6.0%) and so on. The most of the predominant species consist of an opportunistic species. Though the density of a common opportunistic species is often very high in the coast of Korea but it is not like that in the study area. The distribution of BPI and BC values, used to assess benthic pollution, showed similar patterns. BPI values were lower and BC values were higher around Ji Is. This result indicates that the structure of benthic community around Ji Is. was unstable. However, it is insufficient in investigation of once in order to examine the complex benthic community system. Consequently, much more research is needed to further examine the marine benthic communtiy.
해안조망경관 보전을 위한 관리 방안에 관한 연구 -관동팔경 중 망양정, 월송정을 중심으로

본 연구는 관동팔경 중 경상북도 울진군에 위치한 망양정과 월송정을 대상으로 해안조망경관 보전을 위한 관리 방안을 도출하기 위하여 관동팔경의 옛 문헌 검토를 바탕으로 현 실태 분석과 조망점 및 조망대상을 중심으로 문화유산 주변 특정 경관 계획을 통해 경관보전 방안을 제안하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구의 결과는 첫째, 망양정 및 월송정에 관련된 고전 시가 및 그림에 나타난 경관자원 인식과 대표 경관자원을 분석한 결과, 망양정(望洋亭)은 절벽과 파도, 백사장이며, 월송정(越松亭)은 송림과 백사장으로 나타났다. 둘째, 대상지의 주변 경관자원을 유형별로 분류하여 경관자원의 선정 기준에 따라 우선 순위를 정한다. 대표 조망점 및 조망 경로에서 경관가시성 분석을 통하여 선정된 조망경관을 등급화 한다. 셋째, 대상지 주변 경관자원의 분석과 이여 중점 관리 구역의 위계를 두어 등급별 관리를 한다. 본 연구는 향후 해안 조망 경관보전을 위한 문화유산 주변 특정 경관 계획 시 기초 자료로 활용되는데 의의가 있다. The purpose of this study is proposing the way of preservation of scenic spots in Mangyangjung and Weolsongjung which is located in Uijin-gun in Gyeongsangbuk-do out of the eight famous spots in Eastern. Korea in order to deduce the plan for management for the preservation of a coastal landscape by analyzing the actual consition from exarmining documentary records and investigation a specific scenery plan. First of all from the result of study, after analyzing both typically scenery resources an classic poems and songs which were related to Mang yang jung and Weol song Jung, Mang yang Jung was used to be a sandy beach with a cliff and wave moreover, Weolsong Jung was also used to be a sand bank with a pine forest. Secondly, prior ranking will be set up from the selection standard of scenery resources by typically sorting out the surrounding landscape resources in the place. Therefore, classifying the ranking selected landscape view will be progressed through the investigation to a sight visibility in a representative view point and course. Finally, after selecting the important view point in the place and making rank of the place from the above survey of the landscape recognition and result of investigation, it will be intended to do a grade of rank management the point of place. The purpose of this study is being a useful basic date so as to the preservation for a coastal landscape when cultural inheritance surrounding will be developed as a specific landscape plan.

Enterovesical fistular is an abnormal communication between the intestine and the bladder. It represents a rare complication of intestinal diverticulitis, colorectal malignancy, bladder cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, radiotherapy, and trauma. The most common etiology is diverticular disease. A 70-year-old man came to our hospital due to frequent urinary tract infection, dysuria, pneumaturia and fecaluria. Sigmoidoscopy revealed a large diverticulum with impacted stool at the sigmoid colon. When the scope was inserted into the site, the patient complained of severe urgency and pneumaturia. CT scan was performed. 1.5 cm sized fistular tract between the sigmoid colon and bladder was noted. According to the endoscopy and CT finding, the diagnosis of colovesical fistula was made. The patient underwent surgical intervention. At laparotomy, there were multiple diverticula and fistular tract was noted. (Korean J Gastroenterol 2011;58:284-287)
Enantioselective Preparation of Metoprolol and Its Major Metabolites

To obtain the standard compounds of metoprolol for a pharmacokinetic study, a convenient synthetic procedure to prepare enantiomers of metoprolol (3a) and its major metaboites, 2-4-(2-hydroxy-3-isopropylamino)propoxyphenylathanol (3b) and 4-(2-hydroxy-3- isopropylamino) pro-poxyphenylacetic acid (4), was developed from their respective starting materials, 4-(2-methoxyethyl)phenol (1a), 4-(2-hydroxyethyl)phenol (1b) and methyl 4-hydroxyphenylacetate (1c). These phenolic compounds (1a, b, c) were converted in situ to their corresponding phenoxides with sodium hydroxide treatment followed by (R)- or (S)-epichlorohydrin treatment. The resulting epoxides 2 were transformed to 3 through reaction with isopropylamine. Ester 3c was hydrolyzed to the metabolite 4. Measured using the HPLC method on chiral column without any derivatization, the optical purity of enantiomers of metoprolol and o-demethylated metabolite 3b ranged between 96-99 % ee and that of enantiomers of carboxylic acid metabolite 4 ranged 91% ee.
Role of Methacholine PC20 in FEF25-75% for the Diagnosis of Bronchial Asthma

Background: The methacholine bronchial provocation test is a useful tool for evaluating asthma in patients with normal or near normal baseline lung function. However, the sensitivity of this test is 82∼92% at most. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical usefulness of FEF25-75% in identification of airway hyperresponsiveness in patients with suspected asthmatic symptoms. Methods: One hundred twenty-five patients who experienced cough and wheezing within one week prior to their visiting the clinic were enrolled. Results: Sixty-four subjects showed no significant reduction of FEV1 or FEF25-75% on the methacholine bronchial provocation test (Group I). In 24 patients, FEF25-75% fell more than 20% from baseline without a 20% fall of FEV1 during methacholine challenge (Group II). All patients who had more than 20% fall of FEV1 (n=37) also showed more than 20% of reduction in FEF25-75% (Group III). Baseline FEV1/FVC (%) and FEF25-75% (L) were higher in group II than group III (81.51±1.56% vs. 75.02±1.60%, p<0.001, 3.25±0.21 L vs. 2.45±0.21 L, p=0.013, respectively). Group II had greater reductions of both FEV1 and FEF25-75% than group I at 25 mg/mL of methacholine (p<0.001). The provocative concentration of methacholine causing a 20% fall in FEF25-75% in group II was about three-fold higher than that in group III. Conclusion: A 20% fall of FEF25-75% by methacholine provocation can be more sensitive indicator for detecting a milder form of airway hyperresponsiveness than FEV1 criteria.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is closely related to respiratory issues. We reported the case about the nutrition intervention given to a male infant with congenital bronchomalacia, GERD, and recurrent pneumonia. During the first and second pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) stays, his nutrition status and nutrient intake were good. However, during the 18 days of the third PICU admission, his nutrient intake decreased to 75%-80% of his estimated calorie requirement and his Z-score for weight-for-age dropped to -1.4. We conducted nutritional interventions to improve GERD symptoms and nutritional status include avoiding overfeeding by feeding small amounts frequently, using a pre-thickened formula mixed with a high-calorie formula, and feeding through transpyloric tube. As a result, his daily nutrient intakes gradually increased and his Z-score for weight-for-age was normal. In conclusion, it is important to implement individualized intensive nutritional management to ensure adequate nutrition and growth status in infants with lung disease and GERD.
