Effect of osmotic pressure on paclitaxel production in suspension cell cultures of Taxus chinensis

The effect of osmotic pressure on paclitaxel production was investigated in the suspension cell cultures of Taxus chinensis. Paclitaxel production was definitely influenced by the initial sucrose concentration and the highest production yield was achieved at the concentration of 60 g·l^-1 sucrose(300 mOsm·kg^-1). HIgh osmotic pressure conditions generated by non-metabolic sugar (mannitol and sorbitol) also enhanced paclitaxel production by about two-fold. Kinetic studies revealed that high intial osmotic pressure enhanced paclitaxel production and that high concentration of sucrose was effective for sustaining secondary metabolism after induction of paclitaxel biosynthesis. Stoichiometric analysis with different combinations of sucrose and mannitol confirmed that osmotic pressure was the more important factor for enhancing paclitaxel metabolism. The addition of non-sugar osmotic agent, PEG also enhanced paclitaxle production. In this paper, we showed that high osmotic pressure led to increases in paclitaxel production and proposed that regulation of osmotic pressure may be useful in controlling paclitaxel production.

Ultra Wideband(UWB) technologies have been developed to exploit a new spectrum resource in substances and to realize ultra-high-speed communication, high precision geolocation, and other applications. The energy of UWB signal is extremely spread from near DC to a few GHz. This means that the interference between conventional narrowband systems and UWB systems is inevitable. However, the interference effects had not previously been studied from UWB wireless systems to conventional mobile wireless systems sharing the frequency bands such as Korean Cellular CDMA and WCDMA. This paper experimentally evaluates the interference from two kinds of UWB sources, namely a direct-sequence spread-spectrum CDMA(DS-CDMA) UWB source and an impulse radio UWB source, to a Cellular CDMA and WCDMA digital transmission system. The average frame error rate degradation of each system are presented. From these experimental results, the interference effects of DS-CDMA UWB source is not severe compared to the Impulse UWB. UWB(Ultra Wideband) 기술은 초고속통신, 고정밀의 위치정보시스템 등을 구현하기 위하여 500 MHz 이상의 광대역 주파수 자원이 요구되고 있다. UWB 신호의 에너지는 DC로부터 수 GHz까지 광대역 특성을 갖기 때문에, 현재 사용되고 있는 통신시스템들과의 간섭에 대한 분석이 필수적이라고 할 수 있지만 아직까지 국내에서 UWB 신호와 Cellular CDMA(Code Division Mutiple Access) 이동통신과 WCDMA(Wideband CDMA)와 간섭에 대한 연구가 이루어지고 있지 않다. 본 논문에서는 임펄스 방식과 DS-CDMA(Direct Sequence-CDMA) 방식의 UWB 신호원과 국내 이동통신 서비스중 Cellular CDMA와 WCDMA의 간섭에 관하여 측정을 하고 분석하였다. 본 논문의 결과로부터, 임펄스 방식에 비해 DS-CDMA방식의 UWB 신호는 이동통신시스템에 간섭효과가 크지 않다는 사실을 얻었다.

Argentine tango (tango) has been applied therapeutically in recent decades for neurologic diseases, including Parkinson’s disease. Recently, the basic terminology of tango was defined, and the most simple and basic tango elements were classified for therapeutic purposes. Subsequently, the tango stance and posture were analysed systemically according to their functional anatomical descriptions, and the characteristics of tango gait were thus ascertained. Analysis was performed in a well-equipped facility appropriate for tango lessons and with two qualified tango masters and two tango experts. The following aspects of the tango gait associated with the purpose of movement were characterized: the single-limb support and dual-limb support of body weight; the variability of direction of movement; the gait cycle in normal gait and the gait cycle unit in tango gait; the difference in the way of walking; the asymmetric shape of the Wt-gaining limb and Wt-losing limb; the vertical and side-to-side displacement of centre of mass (CoM); the step width; the active vs passive movements; the absence of hand swing and kick-off; the concurrence of the body axis, Wt axis and the vertical fixation of the body axis; the difference in the principle of step; the single-limb stance duration and dual-limb support duration; the variation in gait velocity; and the movement known as adorno. Tango therapy effects similar to the effects of running, squatting and climbing may be obtained, even at a safe, slow velocity. From a medical viewpoint, tango has therapeutic effects on the muscular strengthening of posture and gait. Consequently, the posture, gait, balancing, mobility, and the rigidity of the body are possibly improved. Tango therapy provides good modality in those patients whose mobility is not favourable, such as those with neurologic diseases, including Parkinson’s disease, and it can promote the health of older people. Additionally, tango possibly strengthens the core muscles and can be applied for urinary inconstancy. More investigation may be needed.
국제 물류프로세스의 RFID 도입효과분석을 위한 시뮬레이션 분석체계 개발 -LCD 산업 사례를 중심으로-

최근 여러 산업분야에서 RFID(Radio Frequency Identification Device) 도입에 관한 다양한 연구들이 이루어지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 LCD 산업 분야의 국제 물류프로세스에서 RFID 도입으로 인해 발생하는 효과를 측정하기 위한 시뮬레이션 모형을 개발하였다. 본 연구를 위해 국내 S사의 LCD 모니터 생산과정에서 사용되는 LCD 패널 포장 용기인 EPP(Expanded Polypropylene) 박스의 국제 물류프로세스를 대상으로 연구 자료를 수집, 분석하였다. 시뮬레이션 실험 결과 각 거점별 EPP박스의 재고 가시성과 정확성의 향상으로 주문충족률 및 입출고 대기시간이 크게 개선되었다. 뿐만 아니라 정상적인 프로세스를 유지하기 위한 EPP 박스의 총 유통량을 절감할 수 있었다. 지금껏 많은 연구들이 정성적 기대효과나 지엽적인 효과를 제시한 것과 달리 본 연구에서는 보다 구체적이고 실질적인 정량적 효과를 시스템 전체 프로세스를 대상으로 제시하였다는데 그 의미가 있다. This paper presents a simulation model to measure the effects of implementing RFID system to an international logistics process. To construct a simulation framework, an international logistics process of EPP (Expanded polypropylene) boxes, special packaging boxed for LCD panel, between Korea and China has been has been analyzed. Numerical results of the simulation show that order fulfillment rate is significantly improved owing to the real time inventory information provide by RFID system and adequate transportation. Furthermore, the total number of EPP boxes for this process can be reduced. Main contribution of this paper is that this paper shows quantitative results of integrated effects for full process rather than local effect of implementing RFID system.
