        Coal is represented as a collection of various functional groups including aromatic rings, aliphatic chains and bridges, and other heterocyclic compounds. Accordingly, the behavior of coal pyrolysis is highly complex and requires a more systematic study thermochemically and phenomenologically. This study is designed to be a preparatory step for a mathematical analysis which helps to interrelate kinetics models of coal pyrolysis and experimental data obtained with the reaction conditions of reduced pressure and high heating velocity. The kinetics models to be used are formulated and qualitatively represented in terms of phenomenological and thermochemical approaches.

        To elucidate the hemolytic toxicities of Korean basidiomycetes, the cold-water extracts of 46 wild mushrooms were tested for hemolytic activity on mouse erythrocytes. Twelve species including Amanita esculenta, A. griseofarinosa, A. longistriata, A. melleicepe, A. phalloides, A. rubescence, A. spissacea, A. vaginata, Hebeloma crustuliniforme, Lepiota cygnea, Macrolepiota procera, and Oudemansiella platyphylla showed strong hemolytic activities. Of these, A. griseofarinosa and H. crustuliniforme showed no decrease in their hemolytic activity even after five minutes' boiling.

        A classification algorithm of traffic signs using a MSHMT(modified synthetic hit-miss transform) is proposed for the autonomous road vehicles(ARV's). In the case of classification of traffic signs, there are many kinds of signs with intraclass distortions and interclass similarities. The MSHMT provides a good solution with the property of distortion invariant recognition of multiple objects in noisy and cluttered scene. The proposed algorithm of traffic sign classification consists of the phase of sign detection and the phase of symbol recognition. In the phase of sign detection, structuring elements(SEs) are synthesized using only set theory to adapt to simple variations. In the phase of symbol recognition, SEs are synthesized using set theory and SDF(synthetic discriminant function) synthesis method to adapt to complex variations. Based on extensive simulations, it has been shown that the proposed algorithm is efficient for the classification of traffic signs.

        The purpose of this study was to analyze the roof-shapes of houses which were recently built. But Jeju Province made a new law that all houses should have slope-shaped roofs such as a gable roof instead of a flat. because of the cityscape. The study sample area is a new town in Jeju City. The results of this study were as follows: the slope-shaped roofs should induce not by force through the law but by itself through giving an advantage that the inside of roof space, called an attic. might be able to make best use. And a term of the slope-shaped roofs should be defined concretely. Also we should take a flat roof because it was ours for a while.

      • 오페라의상과 무대조명의 시각적 효과 : 리골렛토(Rigoletto)를 중심으로 Rigoletto

        The purpose of study to show 1) that, based on the concep of opera costum throuht consideration of visual effect, the situation of costume on the syage shall be firmly set up, 2) that the visual effect of opera costume is divided by the visual effect of the formal and abstract antities which is percived in the situation of audience, and so the audience shall be oneness whith works, 3) that, by observing and analizing visually the features of the costume which is chainging according to wake the its importance as the factor controlling the ostchological state of the audience and by lighting, it is possible to perform the effective state by providing the interest and visual statisfaction to the play. Briefly summarizing the conclusion of this thesis as follows; 1. An opera costume is expressed with the close relationship with other visual elements, and especially for the costume designed in a major consideration of illumination will bring an increased modern sensibility and dramatic uniformity as a silent language. 2. The symbolic personal descriptions of the characters is exposed and adjusted along the variety of the illumination to the extent that it would deliver the psychological state of the figures in the drama. 3. The illumination which increases the visual effects of opera costume will express and create the essential phenomena, including shapes, colors and qualitative touch and will offer the visual singification and creative imagination, by harmonizing with the abstract entity of the psychological state of the audience and that of the characters. 4. By inquiring into Opera 'Rigoletto' as a sample study, the result of the analysis on the visual effect of the opera costume, varies along the illumination, are following as; 1) The formal and abstract entities by the illumination was varied and adjusted along the characters at Act Ⅰ Scene 2, Act Ⅰ Scene 2, Act Ⅱ Act Ⅲ respectively, and was formed a dramatic relationship between the natures of the costumes and the characters. 2) The stage illumination for each Act helped the audience increase their comprehension and attention along the psychological state of the characters, places and times. 3) The variety of costume through the effects of color filter influenced not only the changing appearance of the costumes but also the qualitative touch and its shape with possible expectation of the various visual effects. 4) The function of illumination offers the unique and broad possibility of the visual arts as sell as effective design options creating the variety of the elements of costume design, including the changes in silhouette, qualitative touch and creation of patterns.

      • 현대 제주 주거건축의 정체성 모색

        As the industrialization was rapidly in process nationwide after 1960s, the housing architecture in Cheju was adapted for the functional and cultural request by social change. And the true character in the traditional architecture was faded away. But the traditional culture is still in our spiritual memory continuously and it is changed to the contemporary culture mixing with new cultural elements which come from the western. This study is composed of three steps researching and analyzing, and figuring. First step of this study was focusing the traditional characters in Cheju through researching to the written data and visiting the site. The second of this was to try to find the characters of the contemporary housing through the sampling examples which were designed by regional architects in Cheju. Final steps of this was to groping out the permanent true character in Cheju through analysing the both results from steps first and second.

        찰옥수수연구 XVIII 시설하우스에서 2기작 찰옥수수 교잡종의 주요 생육특성 비교

        The major characteristics of the developed corn hybrids were compared at each different planting time; 1st time(April 28) and 2nd time(August 20), respectively. Among traits surveyed, stem height showed highly at 1st time than 2nd, while ear height, stem diameter and ear length were similar at two times. Sugar content of the used hybrids showed highly at 2nd planting time than 1st. Pericarp thickness was also high at 2nd planting time. Especially, among hybrids CNU99 was the highest in stem height and ear length, CNU11 and CNU56 were high in sugar content, and CNU51 and CNU124 were thiner than other hybrids in pericarp thickness. Accordingly, these hybrids will be planted and recognized in 2nd yield trial for superior corn hybrid selection.

        Testicular microlithiasis is a rare disease characterized by calcifications within the seminiferous tubules. Testicular microlithiasis has been found with a wide variety of testicular pathology, but to our knowledge its association with torsion of appendix testis has been reported only one case. Therefore, we report on an 13-year-old boy with torsion of testis appendix and bilaterally diffusely echogenic testes on sonography.
