        이하선 종양의 분포실태 및 전방접근법에 관한 고찰

        Although many operative techniques have been developed to approach the parotid a gland, high recurrence rate and the occurrence of facial palsy still remain to be dilema in the parotidectomy. After reviewing 179 cases of parotid tumor retrospectively, including 8cases which utilized the peripheral approach, the authors came to the following conclusions. 1) The sex ratio is 1 : 1 and the mean age of occurrance was 43.1 for benign tumors and 43.4 for malignant tumors. 2) The histopathologic findings showed that 155 cases were benign tumors(86.5%)and 24 cases were malignant tumors(13.5%) 3) Among the benign tumors, the mixed tumor was the most common(126 cases, 81.2%)and in the malignant tumors the mucoepidermoid tumor was the most common(12 cases, 50%). 4) The truncal approach for parotidectomy was used in 171 cases, and the peripheral approach in 8 cases. 5) The peripheral approach is superior to the truncal approach because it can provide with a better surgical field ; the branches of facial nerve can be identified more superficially, and thus the liability of facial nerve injury is much lessened especially in large tumors. The peripheral approach also coincides with the embryologic development of parotid gland.

        Inhibition of Listeria monocytogenes in Vacuum or Modified Atmosphere - Packed Ground Beef by Lactococcal Bacteriocins

        We investigated the antagonistic effects of two lactococcal bacteriocins, nisin or lacticin NK24, on the growth, the survival of Listeria monocytogenes in vacuum or modified atmosphere-packaged ground beef. Ground beef was inoculated with approximately 3 log colony-forming units (CFU) of L. monocytogenes ATCC 15313 culture per gram of ground beef. Inoculated samples were blended with/without 100 AU/g nisin or lacticin NK24,, subsequently vacuum or modified atmosphere packed at 4℃. Listeria in the bacteriocin-treated, control samples was subsequently isolated from both vacuum, modified atmosphere packs, enumerated as CFU on Listeria Isolation Agar medium. Microbial counts in ground beef treated with bacteriocin declined steadily, while those of non-treated beef samples increased steadily. The results obtained demonstrate that nisin inhibits the growth of L. monocytogenes more effectively than lacticin NK24 at 100 AU/g. The use of lactococcal bacteriocins, such as nisin or lacticin NK24, in vacuum or modified atmosphere packaging offers a promising approach for eliminating or reducing the risk of L. monocytogenes contamination in ground beef.

        서술형 평가에서의 교사평가와 동료평가 활동 경험에 따른 고등학생들의 인식

        이 연구에서는 서술형 문항에 대한 교사평가와 동료평가가 고등학생들의 학업성취도와 정의적 영역에 미치는 효과를 알아보고, 평가에 대한 학생들의 만족도와 신뢰도를 분석하여 시사점을 얻고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 중소도시에 있는 고등학교 2학년 2개반을 선정하여 학업성취도, 정의적 영역의 검사를 사전과 사후에 실시하였다. 서술형 문항의 평가는 10차시 수업 동안 진행되었으며, 교사평가를 실시한 반에서는 학생들이 서술형 문항을 푼 후에 교사가 이에 대한 피드백을 수업 중에 실시하였다. 동료평가를 실시한 반에서는 학생들이 서술형 문항을 푼 후에 소집단 별로 동료평가를 실시하고 피드백을 제공하도록 하였다. 연구 결과, 학업성취도 상위 집단 학생들은 상대적으로 교사평가에 긍정적인 만족도를 나타내었고, 하위 집단 학생들은 동료평가에 긍정적인 만족도를 나타내었다. 한편, 학업성취도 상위 집단 학생들은 교사평가와 학생평가에서 동일한 채점 기준을 제공하였음에도 불구하고 교사평가에 대한 신뢰도가 상대적으로 높은 반면, 하위 집단 학생들은 교사평가에 대한 신뢰도가 상대적으로 낮았다. 학업성취도가 하위인 학생들만 비교한 결과 교사평가를 실시한 학급보다 동료평가를 실시한 학급에서 성취도의 향상이 통계적으로 유의미하게 나타났다. 정의적 영역의 평가 결과에서도 하위 집단 학생들은 동료 평가가 정의적 영역에서 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤으며, 특별히 과학에 대한 인식 영역에서 변화가 통계적으로 유의미하게 나타났다. The purpose of this study is to figure out the influence on the students` achievement of the cognitive and the affective domains by descriptive items assessment of teacher or peer and to obtain implications by analyzing the students` satisfaction and the reliability of the assessment. For this purpose, two classes of 11th grade students located in a small city were selected and took an exam related to the cognitive and the affective domains before and after the assessment. The assessment activities were carried out during 10 lessons and the teacher gave feedback to the students of the teacher assessment class in the lessons. In the peer assessment class, a small-size student group discussion and feedback were given to the students after the exam. The results show that higher level achievement group students represented relatively positive satisfaction on teacher assessment, and lower level achievement group students represented positive satisfaction on peer assessment. In spite of the same marker list, higher level achievement group students represent relatively high reliability than lower level achievement group students. The lower level achievement group students in the peer assessment class got statistically meaningful improvement of achievement than the students of teacher assessment class. The peer assessment activity was positively influenced on the affective domain of the lower level achievement group students, especially signigicant meaning of statistics was found on the students` perception about science.

        Enteroviruses are a genus of positive-sense single stranded RNA viruses in a member of Picornaviridae. Coxsackievirus B is a member of human enterovirus B species and coxsackievirus B (CVB) consists with 6 serotypes of CVB1 to CVB6. Viral infections during pregnancy can provide significant effects on fetus. This study was performed to evaluate viral infection related with spontaneous abortion. A prospective study performed to 51 gravidas including missed abortion, fetal anomaly, preterm and full-tem delivery in Hanyang University Hospital. Coxsackievirus genome and protein was detected by RT-PCR and Western blot, respectively, in abortive tissues and term placenta samples. Coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) genome was detected in 7 among 14 missed abortion cases, while 1 among 27 full term cases was positive and none of the 9 preterm cases were positive. In encephalocele anomaly case, Coxsackievirus B1 (CVB1) was detected. Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV 1) was found in 4 samples in full term, 3 samples in preterm, and none of the missed abortion. Prevalence of coxsackievirus in missed abortion was significantly high compare to full term or preterm delivery. Coxsackievirus B infection may be considered as important etiological agents of missed abortion.

        Physicochemical Characteristics and Antioxidant Capacity in Yogurt Fortified with Red Ginseng Extract

        The objective of this study was to investigate characteristics and functionality of yogurt applied red ginseng extract. Yogurts added with red ginseng extract (0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2%) were produced using Lactobacillus acidophilus and Streptococcus thermophilus and stored at refrigerated temperature. During fermentation, pH was decreased whereas titratable aicidity and viable cell counts of L. acidophilus and S. thermophilus were increased. The composition of yogurt samples was measured on day 1, an increase of red ginseng extract content in yogurt resulted in an increase in lactose, protein, total solids, and ash content, whereas fat and moisture content decreased. The pH value and cell counts of L. acidophilus and S. thermophilus were declined, however titratable acidity was increased during storage period. The antioxidant capacity was measured as diverse methods. During refrigerated storage time, the value of antioxidant effect was decreased, however, yogurt fortified with red ginseng extract had higher capacity than plain yogurt. The antioxidant effect was improved in proportion to concentration of red ginseng extract. These data suggests that red ginseng extract could affect to reduce fermentation time of yogurt and enhance antioxidant capacity.

        Fermentation of red ginseng extract by the probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum KCCM 11613P: ginsenoside conversion and antioxidant effects

        Background: Ginsenosides, which are bioactive components in ginseng, can be converted to smaller compounds for improvement of their pharmacological activities. The conversion methods include heating; acid, alkali, and enzymatic treatment; and microbial conversion. The aim of this study was to determine the bioconversion of ginsenosides in fermented red ginseng extract (FRGE). Methods: Red ginseng extract (RGE) was fermented using Lactobacillus plantarum KCCM 11613P. This study investigated the ginsenosides and their antioxidant capacity in FRGE using diverse methods. Results: Properties of RGE were changed upon fermentation. Fermentation reduced the pH value, but increased the titratable acidity and viable cell counts of lactic acid bacteria. L. plantarum KCCM 11613P converted ginsenosides $Rb_2$ and $Rb_3$ to ginsenoside Rd in RGE. Fermentation also enhanced the antioxidant effects of RGE. FRGE reduced 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging activity and reducing power; however, it improved the inhibition of ${\beta}$-carotene and linoleic acid oxidation and the lipid peroxidation. This suggested that the fermentation of RGE is effective for producing ginsenoside Rd as precursor of ginsenoside compound K and inhibition of lipid oxidation. Conclusion: This study showed that RGE fermented by L. plantarum KCCM 11613P may contribute to the development of functional food materials.
