        Crotonaldehyde-exposed macrophages induce heme oxygenase-1 expression as an adaptive mechanism

        Cigarette smoke represents one of the most significant risk factors for the progression of vascular disease. Exposure to cigarette smoke induces oxidative stress in the vascular system and results in vascular dysfunction. Crotonaldehyde, a highly reactive α,β-unsaturated aldehyde, is a foremost compound of cigarette smoke and a product of endogenous lipid peroxidation. Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) expression plays an essential role in cellular defense against environmental insults and represents an adaptive response. Here, we showed the effects of crotonaldehyde on the induction of HO-1 expression in RAW 264.7 macrophages. Crotonaldehyde treatment resulted in significantly increased phosphorylation of p38 mitogenactivated protein kinase (MAPK) and nuclear translocation of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2). Furthermore, treatment with zinc protoporphyrin (ZnPP; the specific HO-1 inhibitor) markedly augmented the death of crotonaldehyde-treated macrophages. In summary, these results highlight the role of the HO-1 upregulation through p38 MAPK-Nrf2 activation in the adaptive response to crotonaldehyde in macrophages.

      • Eriodictyol Protects Endothelial Cells against Oxidative Stress-Induced Cell Death through Modulating ERK/Nrf2/ARE-Dependent Heme Oxygenase-1 Expression

        <P>The pathophysiology of cardiovascular diseases is complex and may involve oxidative stress-related pathways. Eriodictyol is a flavonoid present in citrus fruits that demonstrates anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, neurotrophic, and antioxidant effects in a range of pathophysiological conditions including vascular diseases. Because oxidative stress plays a key role in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease, the present study was designed to verify whether eriodictyol has therapeutic potential. Upregulation of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), a phase II detoxifying enzyme, in endothelial cells is considered to be helpful in cardiovascular disease. In this study, human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) treated with eriodictyol showed the upregulation of HO-1 through extracellular-regulated kinase (ERK)/nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2)/antioxidant response element (ARE) signaling pathways. Further, eriodictyol treatment provided protection against hydrogen peroxide-provoked cell death. This protective effect was eliminated by treatment with a specific inhibitor of HO-1 and RNA interference-mediated knockdown of HO-1 expression. These data demonstrate that eriodictyol induces ERK/Nrf2/ARE-mediated HO-1 upregulation in human endothelial cells, which is directly associated with its vascular protection against oxidative stress-related endothelial injury, and propose that targeting the upregulation of HO-1 is a promising approach for therapeutic intervention in cardiovascular disease.</P>

      • 중부지역 옥수수 파종기에 따른 생육단계 및 수량성 변화

        Maize hybrids were planted on April 1, April 25, May 20 and June 15 in 2012, 2013 at the experimental paddy and upland fields in Suwon city , respectively to know changes of growth stage and yield according to different planting time. Maize planting on April 1 was not recommended because total growing days at planting on April 1 was not different with that at planting on April 25 due to many days from planting to emergence over 20 days at planting on April 1. Total growing days were not much different among three planting time after April 25 because days from silking to maturity was lengthened though days from planting to silking was shortened at later planting time. Stalk weight was decreased as planting time was delayed, particularly at planting times after May 20 at paddy field by excess water injury during early growth stage. But, grain yield was not low as in May and June. It is needed to introduce early maturity maize variety as Yanganok at late planting for higher grain yield and enough time for soil preparation for next winter crops

        本 硏究는 不景氣를 맞이한 스칸디나비안 항공사(SAS)를 事例로 하여, 그들의 企業經營回復을 體係的으로 分析한 事例硏究이다. 이 業例는 原價節減方式이 아닌, 組織의 變化와 人間關係中心의 經營方式에 중점을 둔 經營回復의 내용으로서 우리는 이를 통하여 動的組織(Dynamic organization)과 從業員中心(Labor-managed)의 經營이 단순히 費用節減만을 추구하는 경영방식보다 有效하다는 것을 立證해 볼 수 있다. This case study is on the corporate recovery of Scandinavian Airline System(SAS) suffering from business depression for years. This study lays its focus not in cost management, but in organizational change and HR oriented management system for the recovery of business. Through the case study, we can find that dynamic organization and labor-oriented management show more effective performances than simply cost-controlling management. This will be divided into four sections. Part I will give the reader a brief history of SAS, and introduction to problem definition. Part II will deal with SAS up to until the time of the crisis. Discussed will be the earlier market, the organizational structure and the problems which led up to the need of the reorganization. Part III will look at the actual reorganization taking into account the change in management philosophies, structure and their effects. Part IV will summarize the results of the reorganization as well as discuss some aspects of the future for SAS.

        농가의 경영진단기법 이용현황과 과제 : '표준진단표'에 의한 분석결과와 개선방안을 중심으로

        The purpose of this study is to develop and improve the diagnosis system for farm management. The characteristics of farm diagnosis system is the quality assessment by using checklist in Korea, but that is the quantity assessment by analyzing the farm book-keeping in Japan. The former applies easily to the oneself diagnosis of the farming but has the problem for the precise assessment, the latter has the standard diagnosis indexes with the agricultural income & expenditure, etc. So farmer can compare his own farm records with those standard indexes. But it is difficult to apply for Korean farm diagnosis, because most of Korean farmers don't keep the record on farming activity. Reviewing the problem of the 'Standard Diagnosis Chart' on rice farming, this study find out the improving measurement to the ratio of land readjustment, farm machinery operation and seed choice, etc.

        This reaearch aims at the development of the scenarios leading the activation of the Korea Red China Relations and the cost-down in transportation at the aspect of flight system, with the charting of the airways, under the growing interest of the world nations in East and Pacific. Researchers took the planning and decision making model using scenarios, which composed of multi-subsystems: system objective, data base, organizational variables, environmental variables, and review sector. After researching the various concerned information, authors drew up the following air routes, as conclusions.         생체모사환경에서 DLC 필름의 부식마모 특성에 미치는 Si 함량의 영향에 관한 연구

        In a method to improve resistance to wear, corrosion and mechanical properties of protective coating, DLC coatings have been extensively studied over the past several years due to their unique combination of properties. Especially, Si-DLC coatings have been attracting increasing interest of researchers since they have a great potential for solving some of the major disadvantages of pure DLC coatings. Si-incorporated diamond-like carbon (Si-DLC) coatings ranging from 0 to 2 at.% were deposited on Ti alloy substrate by means of r.f. plasma-assisted chemical vapor deposition (r.f. PACVD) technique, using mixtures of benzene (C_(6)H_(6)) and silane (SiH_(4)) as the reaction gases. Corrosion and wear behavior of DLC coatings was investigated by electrochemical techniques (potentiodynamic polarization test and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy), tribological techchnique(wear test) and surface analyses (atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy). It was found that DLC coatings with increasing Si content could acquire improved corrosion and wear resistance in the simulated body fluid environment (0.89 wt.% NaCl of pH 7.4 at 37℃).         인공고관절용 스테인리스강 316L에 증착된 다이아몬드상 카본 필름의 전기화학적 특성에 관한 연구

        Diamond-like carbon (DLC) films have several advantages in applications such as high hardness, chemical inertness, low friction and electrical insulation. Furthermore, DLC-coated STS 316L films have been reported to have a good biocompatibility, such as the absence of inflammatory response. Thus, corrosion resistance is the first consideration for the biomaterials to be used in the body. DLC films have been deposited onto substrates of STB 316L for artificial hip joints using r.f PACVD (plasma-assisted chemical vapor deposition) with C_(6)H_(6) and mixture of C_(6)H_(6) and SiH_(4) as the process gases. Three kinds of DLC-coated films were prepared as a function of diverse bias voltage and Si incorporation. Corrosion behavior of DLC films was investigated by electrochemical techniques (potentiodynamic polarization test and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy) and surface analyses (atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy). The electrolyte used in his test was a 0.89%NaCl solution of pH 7.4 at temperature 37℃. Electrochemical measurements showed that DLC films with higher bias voltage and Si incorporation could improve corrosion resistance in the simulated body fluid environment.
