To infer the monophyletic origin and phylogenetic relationships of the order Desmoscolecida, a unique and puzzling group of mainly free-living marine nematodes, we newly determined nearly complete 18S rDNA sequences for six marine desmoscolecid nematodes belonging to four genera (Desmoscolex, Greeffiella, Tricoma and Paratricoma). Based on the present data and those of 72 nematode species previously reported, the first molecular phylogenetic analysis focusing on Desmoscolecida was done by using neighbor joining (NJ), maximum parsimony (MP), maximum likelihood (ML) and Bayesian inference (BI) methods. All four resultant trees consistently and strongly supported that the family Desmoscolecidae forms a monophyletic group with very high node confidence values. The monophyletic clade of desmocolecid nematodes was placed as a sister group of the clade including some members of Monhysterida and Araeolaimida, Cyartonema elegans (Cyartonematidae) and Terschellingia longicaudata (Linhomoeidae) in all the analyses. However, the present phylogenetic trees do not show any direct attraction between the families Desmoscolecidae and Cyartonematidae. Within the monophyletic clade of the family Desmoscolecidae in all of the present phylogenetic trees, there were consistently observed two distinct subgroups which correspond to the subfamilies Desmoscolecinae [Greeffiella sp. + Desmoscolex sp.] and Tricominae [Paratricoma sp. + Tricoma sp].

In spite of dramatic change of environmental condition since Cambrian big-bang(explosion) occurred ca. 540 mya, the phylum Arthropoda retains a great diversity, and it isestimated approximately that 1-10 million arthropod species are extant on the earth.Except for an extinct arthopod subphylum Trilobita, extant arthropods could be divided intofive subphyla: Hexapoda, Crustacea, Myriapoda, Chelicerata, and Pycnogonida. During thelast century, systematists have disputed about interrealtionships among Arthropoda and itsrelatives (Onychophora, Tardigrada, and Pentastomida), arthropod phylogenetic positionwithin protostome animals, monophyly or polyphyly of the phylum Arthropoda, andinterrelationships among five arthropod subgroups (subphyla) etc. Recently, new animalphylogeny was reported that protostomes could be clustered into two groups,Lophotrochozoa and Ecdysozoa, and molting animals such as Nematoda and Arthropodawere included within the Ecdysozoa. On the basis of the new animal phylogeny, first of all, Iwould mention phylogenetic positions and relationships of Arthropoda and its relatives tointroduce controversies of arthropod phylogeny in phylum level of animals. After that, Ifocused mainly on the controveries related to arthropod monophyly and phylogeneticrelationships among four major arthropod groups except Pycnogonida. In this work,Pycnogonida which is a relatively small group and one of the five arthropod subphyla wasnot handled significantly although there are some controversies if it is a sister taxon ofchelicerates or the most primitive arthropod group (namely, a sister of four remaingarthropod groups). The major controversies related with phylogenetic relationships amongfour major arthropod groups are as followings: 1) monophyly of Crustacea, Myriapoda, andHexapoda (the Mandibulata hypothesis), 2) Monophyly of Crustacea and Chelicerata (TCC 백만종을 넘어 천만종에 이를 것으로 추산되는 절지동물 (Phylum Arthro-poda)은 지구상에 현존하는 가장 번성한 동물군 중의 하나로서 캠브리아기 생물의 빅 뱅 이 후, 아 오늘날의 다양성을 유지하고 있다. This research was supported by Kyungpook National University Research Fund, 2001.(TCC 혹은 Schizoramia설), 3) 갑각류와 육각류의 근연성 (범갑각류설), 4) 갑각류의 단계통성과 다지류의 단계통성에 대한 논란, 5) 다지류와 협각류의 근연성 등 을 들 수 있 다.

The North Korean sawflies housed in the Hymenoptera Collection of the Hungarian Natural History Museum are studied, with a focus on the subfamilies Athaliinae and Allantinae. Five genera and 10 species including one subspecies of the two subfamilies are identified. Athalia indiana Benson is reported for the first time from East Asia (North Korea), and further eight species and one subspecies are discovered in the new country of North Korea: Allantus helanshanicus Wei, Li and Xiao, Apethymus kolthoffi (Forsius), A. sidorenkoi Sundukov, Athalia japonica (Klug), A. proxima (Klug), A. rosae ruficornis Jakowlew, Beleses satonis (Takeuchi), Taxonus carbonarius Takeuchi, and T. montanus Togashi. Additionally, Athalia infumata (Marlatt) and Allantus exitus Lee and Ryu, syn. nov. are considered a junior subjective synonym of Athalia proxima (Klug) and Allantus luctifer (F. Smith), respectively. Diagnoses and photographs of the newly recorded species are provided, as well as new distributional records and brief notes on the new synonymy.
First Record of Maritime Pseudoscorpion Garypus japonicus (Garypidae) from Korea
최은화,황의욱 한국동물분류학회 2009 Animal Systematics, Evolution and Diversity Vol.25 No.3
A maritime pseudoscorpion Garypus japonicus Beier, 1952 collected from Dokdo Island in the East Sea of Korea is reported and illustrated, which is the first record in Korea. The family Garypidae is also newly recorded in Korea. G. japonicus has been known only from Japan by Beier (1952) so far. Through the present study, its distributional range is extended to Korea.
First record of Snyderina yamanokami (Pisces: Scorpaeniformes) from Korea
김맹진,황의욱,송춘복 한국수산과학회 2010 Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences Vol.13 No.3
This is the first report of Snyderina yamanokami, from the subfamily Tetraroginae of the family Scorpaenidae, collected in Korea. The specimen (175.3 mm long) was caught in the coastal waters of Jeju Island on a commercial longline hook on 9 September 2009. This species is characterized by the following morphological traits: 9-11 dorsal fin rays, 5-6 anal fin rays, 13-15 pectoral fin rays, 5 ventral fin rays, pectoral fin tip reaching or extending past the origin of the anal fin, palatines toothless, and four dark spots on the middle of the body. We suggest a new Korean name, “Keun-mi-yeok-chi,” for S. yamanokami.

A new marine gastrotrich species, Ptychostomella jejuensis n. sp. belonging to the family Thaumastodermatidae, is described on the basis of the specimens from subtidal sand bottom at about 6-7 m depth of Jeju Island, South Korea. Ptychostomella jejuensis n. sp. is distinguished from its congeneric species with smooth cuticular armature by the character combination: (1) small body up to about 160 µm in length; (2) presence of knob-like cephalic tentacles; (3) absence of dorsal and ventral adhesive tubes; (4) bifid pedicles; (5) pyriform copulatory organ. Under scanning electron microscopy, numerous epidermal gland openings were observed in the new species, characteristically flanking a bristle. Taxonomic accounts on the affinities, some brief remarks on the epidermal gland openings and the cooccurrence with P. orientalis Lee and Chang, 2003 are also presented with detailed illustrations and scanning electron photomicrographs.
