Three species of marine algae collected from the western coast of Korea were described. Of these, two species i.e., Hypoglossum geminatum Okamura and Sphacelaria radiata Takamatsu are newly recorded in Korea.
Molecular Phylogeny of Syngnathiformes Fishes

The previous morphology-based taxonomic frameworks within the family Sygnathidae had emphasized the significance of the male brood pouch and reproductive biology in defining the group. However, several different hypotheses had been proposed by different investigators. This study have beencarried out to determine the phylogenetic relationships among 19 species belonging to the order Syngnathiformes with three Gasterosteiformes species as outgroup taxa by using the mitochondrial cytochrome b and Rag2 nuclear DNA sequences. Phylogenetic analyses based on neighbor-joining distance, maximum parsimony, minimum evolution and maximum likelihood method strongly supported that the family Syngnathidae, the suborder Syngnathoidei and the order Syngnathiformes were all monophyletic group. Much of previous morphological analyses were supported by our molecular data, but some deep relationships were not clearly resolved with regard to members of the suborder Aulostomoidei.

This is the first report of Fowlerichthys scriptissimus (Lophiiformes, Antennariidae) from Korea. A single specimen (291.0 mm SL) was collected off the coast of Jejudo Island by gill net on 28 March 2012 and identified with morphological and molecular approaches. The specimen is characterized by having all five pelvic fin rays bifurcate and possessing 20 vertebrae, 13 pectoral-fin rays, and a basidorsal ocellus on the side of the body. This species is distinguishable from other Korean taxa by the number of pectoral fin rays, the bifurcate form of the pelvic rays, and the vertebral count. We add this species to the Korean fish fauna and suggest new Korean names, “Byeol-ssin-beng-i-sok” and “Byeol-ssin-beng-i” for the genus and species, respectively.

Effects of estradiol-17β(E₂) and 2, 4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid(2, 4-D) on vitellogenin(VTG) production were investigated in primary hepatocyte culture of olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus. Highest survival rate of hepatocyte were observed at 27℃, which markedly declined equal to 50% of those of 15℃. Vitellogenin production peaked at the concentration of 10^(-6) M E₂. No effect was observed on VTG production at various concentrations of 2, 4-D. However, a low concentration of 2, 4-D (ie, 10^(-8)M) only appeared increased VTG production. E₂ or 10^-8M 2, 4-D-primed VTG production was markedly inhibited by the addition of 10^(-6)M tamoxifen to the culture medium(P<0.01). Inhibition was not affected by combinational treatment with 10^(-6)M E₂ and 10^(-6)M 2, 4-D. These results from the current investigation suggest that 2, 4-D mimics E₂, but the mechanism of reaction in inducing the E₂ receptor are different in VTG production in oliver flounder hepatocytes.
