국제 교실수업 어휘 프로젝트: 한국 수학교실의 교수학적 어휘 조사 연구

Discourses about classrooms provide clear insights into pedagogical principles and practices in a cultural context. Human thinking is not independent of the use of language, and thinking may form language, and at the same time language may shape human thinking. In particular, it is important to investigate the pedagogical terms named and used by teachers because the classroom activities and principles can be objectified and further developed after that. This paper reports what Korean teachers see and name classroom activities in Korean middle school mathematics classrooms as a part of the International Classroom Lexicon Project that 10 countries collaborate on identifying and documenting own country’s pedagogical terms in their middle school mathematics classrooms. Using 9 video stimulus materials, which support ways of which teachers see and name pedagogical phenomena using particular pedagogical terms and languages, we identify and list the pedagogical terms. The initial pedagogical terms were 112, but after conducting a national-wide survey, we finalized and identified the total 105 numbers of Korean pedagogical terms in mathematics classrooms. Issues with regard to the Korean pedagogical terms are also discussed. Our study will be further analyzed to compare each country’s lexicon in collaboration with the other 9 countries. We expect that this Korean pedagogical lexicon can be used to identify Korean mathematics classroom culture as well as be the groundwork for analyzing classroom practices both in Korea and in comparison with other participant countries. 인간의 사고는 언어의 사용과 무관하지 않고, 사고가 언어를 형성함과 동시에 언어가 인간의 사고를 형성하기도 한다. 교육활동과 관련하여 그 활동을 지칭할 수 있는 어휘가 존재할 때, 그 활동을 대상화하여 다룰 수 있게 되기 때문에 교사가 교실 수업 활동에 사용하는 어휘를 연구하는 것은 중요하다. 국제 교실수업 어휘 프로젝트(International Lexicon Project)는 교수학적 어휘에 대한 연구의 필요성을 바탕으로 국제적 협력 조사연구를 진행하고 있으며, 한국을 포함한 10개국이 참여하고 있다. 이 논문은 이 국제 협력 연구의 일환으로 진행된 한국의 교실수업 어휘 조사 연구 결과를 기술한다. 중학교 9개의 수업을 촉진자료로 활용하여 한국 교실의 교수학적 어휘 목록을 생성하고, 생성된 용어에 대하여 전국단위 교사를 대상으로 타당도 조사를 시행하였다. 그 결과 한국의 교수학적 어휘는 8개 범주로 총 105개를 확인할 수 있었다. 향후 이 결과는 국제 비교를 위한 한국 자료로 활용될 것이며, 한국의 교수학습의 특수성을 확인하고 이론을 개발할 수 있는 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이라 기대한다.

예비교사와 현직교사가 바라보는 한국의 수학교실수업: 국제 교실수업 어휘 프로젝트를 기반으로

본 연구는 국제 교실수업 어휘 프로젝트의 일환으로 이미 조사된 한국의 교수학적 어휘를 바탕으로 현직교사와 예비교사의 교수학적 어휘에 대한 인식 차이를 비교하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 국제 교실수업 어휘 프로젝트는 호주를 중심으로 독일, 미국, 일본, 중국, 체코, 칠레, 프랑스, 핀란드, 한국의 총 10개국이 참여하는 국제공동연구이다. 각 국가에서는 자국의 수학교실에서 나타나는 교수학적 용어를 확인하고 정리하며 이를 기반으로 수학 교실 수업과 관련한 연구를 확장하거나 10개국 내에서의 국제 비교연구를 진행하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 한국의 교수학적 용어로 정리된 103개의 용어에 대하여 현직교사 136명의 응답과 예비교사 127명의 응답을 비교하여 해당 용어에 대한 친숙도와 수업에서 발생하는 정도에 대한 인식의 차이를 분석하였다. 분석 결과에서 우리나라 현직교사들과 예비교사들은 공통적으로 '교수·학습 활동'과 '평가' 범주에 있는 용어에 대한 친숙도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 예비교사들은 현직교사의 응답과 비교하였을 때, 국가 주도로 제안된 용어의 친숙도가 현저히 낮은 것으로 조사되었다. 또한, 수업에서 발생하는 정도에 대한 인식 조사 분석 결과, 교사의 수학 수업에 대한 교수학적 노력이 학습자의 관점에서는 명시적으로 드러나지 않는 어휘와 그에 대한 차이점이 드러났다. 이러한 분석 결과를 바탕으로 우리나라의 수학교실 관행에 대해 성찰하고 그와 관련하여 논의 및 제언하였다. Lexicon is closely related to human thinking. In particular, a classroom lexicon results from objectifying the teaching-learning activity in classrooms, allowing humans to recognize and explore the activities and phenomena in classrooms explicitly. Therefore, using the lexicon and clarifying what the words mean is to enhance the understanding of teaching activities. The International Classroom Lexicon Project investigates and identifies each country's mathematics classroom lexicon, where ten countries participated. The purpose of this current study is to compare the differences in perceptions between teachers and pre-service teachers about the Korean classroom lexicon previously investigated as a part of the international collaborative project. By comparing the responses of 147 teachers and 127 pre-service teachers, the degree of familiarity with pedagogical terms and the frequency of occurrence or usage in classrooms were compared and analyzed to understand the recognition of pre-service teachers' pedagogical terms. Finally, we also discuss reflections on Korean mathematics teaching practices in Korea.

한국과 미국 예비 초등교사는 자연수 덧셈과 뺄셈 연산에 대한 학생의 수학적 전략과 오류를 어떻게 분석하는가?

본 연구는 덧셈 뺄셈 연산에서 보이는 수학적 전략을 한국과 미국의 예비 초등교사가 어떻게 분석하는지 비교 분석한다. 한국의 예비교사 26명과 미국의 예비교사 20명이 본 연구에 참여하였으며, 제시된 덧셈 뺄셈 연산에서 어떠한 수학적 오류가 있는지 서술하게 하였다. 수합된 46명의 예비교사의 기록은 연구의 주요 데이터로 근거 이론에 기반을 두어 오픈 코딩과 귀납 코딩하고, 통계 처리하여 혼합연구를 진행하였다. 그 결과, 덧셈 연산에 대한 오류와 전략 분석에서 양국의 예비교사의 응답 양상은 유사하였으나, 뺄셈 연산에서는 차이가 있음을 확인하였다. 또한, 학생의 풀이 전략이 다단계로 구성이 되어 있거나 전형적이지 않을 때, 양국의 예비교사가 이를 분석하는데 어려워함을 확인하였다. 국제 비교 연구 결과를 바탕으로 양국의 예비교사 교육에 공통적인 시사점을 제공하고, 각국의 예비교사 교육에 새로운 방향을 논하였다.

한국, 대만, 중국의 초등학교 수학교과서에 나타난 분수 개념 지도 방법

Even though fractions make up one of the most important concepts in the domain of numbers in elementary math, it is difficult to teach or learn them due to their different quantity concepts and notation methods from natural numbers and their various concepts. The didactic transposition of fractions is thus important, and there is a need to examine the didactic concepts of fractions used in the South Korean textbooks for its research. This study compared elementary math textbooks among South Korea, Taiwan, and China and investigated differences in the instructional time and order of fraction concepts in the textbooks according to their didactic concepts and also differences in the instructional methods according to quantitative concepts. 분수는 초등학교 수학의 수영역에서 중요한 개념 중 하나임에도 불구하고 자연수와 다른 양적 개념과 표기법, 다양한 분수 개념으로 인하여 교수 학습이 어렵다. 따라서 분수의 교수학적 변환은 중요하며, 이를 연구하기 위해 한국 교과서에서 사용하고 있는 분수의 교수학적 개념이 어떠한지 살펴볼 필요가 있다. 본 연구는 한국, 대만과 중국의 초등학교 수학 교과서를 비교하여 각 나라의 교과서에 나타난 분수 개념이 교수학적 개념에 따라 지도 시기와 순서가 어떻게 달라지는지, 양적 개념에 따른 지도 방법의 차이는 어떠한지 알아보았다.

실천공동체 관점에서 교실 문화 이해하기

이 글은 수학교실의 미시적인 문화 형성과 관련하여 Paul Cobb의 발현적 관점 이후 확장된 미시적 문화의 해석틀에 대하여 논하고, 수학교실에서 발현되는 미시적인 문화 형성의 과정을 실천공동체적 관점에서 해석할 수 있음을 이론적으로 논한다. 실천공동체의 학습, 참여, 객체화의 의미를 이론적으로 논하고, 실천공동체 내에서의 합법적 주변참여가 학생의 사회수학적 규범의 학습의 과정에서 적용될 수 있음을 이론적으로 논한다.

중국 고등학교 수학 교육과정 및 교과서의 수학사 내용 분석

The history of mathematics is an important part of Chinese highschool mathematics curriculum. The current 2003 revised curriculum in China refers directly to the history of mathematics and presents it as one of the optional series. Moreover, they publish separate history textbooks for mathematics according to the 2003 revised curriculum. The importance of the history of mathematics in Chinese highschool curriculum, which was revised in 2017, has increased. This study aims to analyze the contents of the highschool curriculum and mathematics history textbooks, which were revised in 2003. Based on the results of analysis, we make suggestions on the use of mathematics history for teaching mathematics in Korea. 중국의 고등학교 수학 교육과정에서 수학사는 중요하게 다루어진다. 중국에서 현재 적용 중인 2003년 교육과정에서는 수학사를 직접 언급하면서 선택 계열 중 하나로 제시하고 있으며, 2017년에 개정된 중국 고등학교 교육과정에서 그 비중은 더욱 높아졌다. 또한 2003년 교육과정에 따른 수학사 교과서가 별도로 존재한다. 이에 2003년 고등학교 수학 교육과정 및 수학사 교과서의 내용을 분석하고, 특히 교과서에서 제시한 고대 중국 수학사의 구체적 사례를 통해 우리나라에서 수학교육을 위한 한국 전통 수학사의 활용 방안을 위한 시사점을 도출하고자 한다.

Large Temporal Changes in Contributions of Groundwater-borne Nutrients to Coastal Waters off a Volcanic Island

We examined the contribution of submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) to nutrient budgets in Hwasun Bay, Jeju Island, Korea in August 2009, October 2014, and May 2015. The concentrations of dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) and dissolved inorganic phosphorus (DIP) in fresh groundwater were in the range of 285−716 μM and 2.3−3.2 μM, respectively, which were each 1−2 orders of magnitude higher than those in the bay seawater. The outer-bay seawater flowing into the bay was oligotrophic (2.9 ± 1.9 μM for DIN and 0.2 ± 0.3 μM for DIP). Nutrient budget calculations were performed for each season by accounting for submarine fresh groundwater discharge (SFGD) and water residence times. In August 2009 (DIN = 1.8 μM and DIN:DIP ratio = 4.6 for the outerbay water), DIN inputs from SFGD accounted for approximately 40% of the DIN inventory in the bay seawater. In October 2014 (DIN = 1.1 μM and DIP < 0.05 μM for the outer-bay water), DIP from SFGD accounted for approximately 100% of the DIP inventory in the bay seawater. In May 2015, mean concentrations of DIN and DIP in the bay seawater were 8.6 ± 12 μM and 0.11 ± 0.04 μM, respectively, with conservative behaviors in the bay seawater in association with excessive groundwater inputs. These results imply that SGD plays a critical but different role in nutrient budgets and stoichiometry in coastal waters off a volcanic island depending on open-ocean nutrient conditions.

단위학교 교사공동체의 실행공동체 특성 및 참여의 기제

This study interpreted the teachers’ community in a school from the viewpoint of community of practice. We investigated the characteristics of the teachers' community and the participation factors for forming such communities so that teachers can improve their professionalism and research in their schools. A school in Seoul, which is actively interacting with its colleagues and open to the school's educational activities, was selected for the case study, and a survey was conducted in-depth interviews with five teachers. The research results indicate that the characteristics of the community of practice (COP) were shared with the school's educational goals and core vision and were confirmed with the public-informal discussions about class and educational activities that were common. In addition, we have formed a reciprocal relationship based on the trust of colleagues, and it is confirmed that teacher research study was actively explored (research) and there were applied educational activities with teachers possessing a sense of ownership of the school. Finally, program operations such as cloud systems, open meetings, and a self-training system were analyzed. We specifically analyzed the participation patterns of teachers in consideration of the participation level of COP with respect to these characteristics. This study analyzed the human, environmental, and performance aspects of the factors of forming a community of practice and discussed ways to support the unit school as a community of practice. 이 연구는 근무하는 학교가 교사의 전문성을 향상시키는 공간이자 교육에 관해 연구하고 성찰하는 공간이 되도록 하기 위한 단위학교의 교사공동체의 특성을 조사하였다. 특히 이론적으로 학습을 공동체의 참여양식의 변화로 보는 실행공동체 관점을 취하였고, 단위학교의 교사공동체를 실행공동체로 간주하고 분석하였다. 이를 위하여 근무하는 학교에서 교사들이 전문성을 향상해가고있는 것으로 보이는 수도권 소재의 한 학교를 사례로 선정하고, 이 학교의 교사공동체를 실행공동체적 관점에서 해석하고 그 특성과 참여의 기체를 조사하였다. 사례 학교 관련 보고서 및 각종 문서를 수집하고 교사를 대상으로 한 심층 면담자료와 함께 귀납적으로 분석하였다. 그 결과 실행공동체의 특성으로는 학교의 교육목표와 핵심비전을 공유하고 있으며, 수업과 교육 활동에 대한 공적-비공식적 논의가 일상화되어 있음을 확인하였다. 또한, 동료에 대한 신뢰를 바탕으로 한 호혜적 관계를 형성하고 있고, 교육 활동을 탐구(연구)하고 적용하는 교사연구 학습이 활발하게 일어나며, 교사들이 학교에 대한 주인의식을 가지고 있음을 확인하였다. 마지막으로 클라우드 시스템, 열린회의, 자체연수와 같은 실행이 공유되고 있음을 분석하였다. 또한 실행공동체 참여의 기제는 인적 측면, 환경적 측면, 성과적 측면으로 분석되었다. 인적 측면에서는 교사의 개별적 특성과 리더십이 참여 기제로 분석되었고, 환경적 측면에서는 물리적 환경과 제도적 지원 그리고 정책이 그 기제로 분석되었다. 성과적 측면에서는 교사 개별적인 성과와 학교의 교수활동의 성과가 참여 기제로 분석되었다. 결과를 바탕으로 단위학교의 교사공동체를 교사의 학습이 일어나는 실행공동체가 될 수 있도록 지원하는 방안에 대하여 논하였다.
