Purpose: Regardless of potential and actual complications, the sesamoidectomy either tibial side or fibular side or both, had been used as a surgical option for various pathologic conditions. The objective of this cadaveric study was to identify the changes of range of motion of great toe after sesamoidectomy. Material and Methods: Eight fresh cadaver legs were used. The angular changes of the hallucal articulations were measured by traction of the flexor hallucis longus tendon at the proximal border of fibro-osseous tarsal tunnel and by traction of the extensor hallucis longus tendon at the superior border of inferior extensor retinaculum. The measurement started at neutral position and proceeded to the maximum for respective tendons. After sesamoidectomy either partial or total, same procedures were repeated and the angular changes were measured. Results: In flexion of great toe, there were significant metatarsophalangeal angular differences at 1 cm traction in total sesamoidectomy and lateral sesamoidectomy. In extension of great toe, there were significant metatarsophalangeal angular differences at more than 2 cm traction in total sesamoidectomy. In other measurements, there were no significant angular changes of the hallucal articulations. Conclusion: The sesamoidectomy resulted in change of motion of great toe. Statistical analysis showed that the significant increases in the initial flexion and maximal extension occurred with total sesamoidectomy and the significant increase in the initial flexion occurred with lateral sesamoidectomy.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare the toxicologic characteristics of two groups of patients with acute intoxication for two different time periods and to make recommendations based on the results of this study. Methods: We reviewed retrospectively the medical records of patients with acute intoxication in our emergency center from June 1997 to May 1998 (group A) and from June 2000 to May 2003 (group B), and we evaluated differences in the epidemiologic and the toxicologic characteristics between the two groups. Results: The ratios of the number of patients with acute intoxication to the total numbers of patients who visited our emergency department were $0.49\%$ and $0.52\%$ for groups A and B, respectively. In both groups many poisoned patients visited our emergency center from 4:00 pm to midnight. The interval between the time of intoxication and arrival at the hospital was significantly shorter in group B. The number of patients transferred to our emergency center was larger in group B. Attempted suicide was the major cause of acute intoxication in both groups. Major toxic substances in both groups were centrally active drugs and insecticides. The number of comatose and mechanically ventilated patients was larger in group B. However, there was no statistically significant difference in the mortality rates. Conclusion: Emergency physicians who manage intoxicated patients should recognize regional characteristics and differences in the toxicologic characteristics of poisoning. In addition, the establishment of a poisoning control center in the regional emergency center is necessary to integrate data control and to enhance specialized management of intoxicated patients.
조선업에서 사무직과 생산직 근로자의 직무스트레스 평가에 관한 연구

In recent years, Korea``s shipbuilding industry have expanded its business into offshore plant. These changes are increasing the interest on job stress in shipbuilding industry. The purpose of this study is to investigate the differences of job stressors between white and blue-collar workers. The survey was using Korean Occupational Stress Scale(KOSS) questionnaire and was administered to 8,080 workers of large shipyard company. As a result of the survey, compared with the median score of Korean workers, job stress level of shipyard company workers was low. However, seven categories of KOSS, except for job demand showed higher stress levels of blue-collar workers than white-collar workers. The overall stress level of shipyard company workers is low, however, it is important to find stressors by considering the type of work, working period etc., through a detailed analysis of KOSS 8-categories. The results of this study may be helpful to identify the level of stress and to establish preventive measures in Shipyard Company.

사물 인터넷(IoT)의 확산에 따라 기계가 사용자의 정보를 인식하는 일이 매우 중요해졌다. 그 중에서도 성별은 사용자의 특징을 판단하는 결정적인 요소 중 하나이다. 하지만 아직 성별 인식에 관련된 연구는 여전히 도전적이며 향상시킬 부분이 많이 남아있다. 본 논문에서는 deep-convolutional neural network (DCNN)를 이용하여 높은 성능을 갖는 성별 인식 네트워크를 제안하며, 이를 모바일 GPU 보드에 임베디드 포팅(porting)하여 실시간 성별인식 시스템을 구성한 뒤, PC 환경과 모바일 GPU 환경에서 제안하는 시스템의 성능을 비교, 분석한다.
Rotational relaxation time of polyelectrolyte xanthan chain via single molecule tracking method

Effect of solvent viscosity on the longest rotational relaxation time of xanthan molecule has been examined using a single molecule tracking method. Incorporating inverted epi-fluorescence microscope and chargedcoupled device (CCD) camera, various features of xanthan (i.e., radius of gyration, orientation angle, etc.) were interpreted by image processing algorithm from the captured real xanthan images. From the best-fit of the autocorrelation function on the orientation angle, the longest rotational relaxation time was effectively determined. Rotational relaxation time increases with the medium solvent viscosity due to the slow movement of xanthan molecule. It is confirmed that there is a good agreement between experiments and Brownian dynamics simulations on the relaxation patterns of xanthan chain.
Conformation of single polymer molecule in a slot coating flow

To satisfy good mechanical and optical properties of polymer-coated film products, it will be indispensable to elucidate the molecular orientation of polymer chains within coating liquids in coating flows. Using hybridized numerical method between computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and Brownian dynamics (BD) simulations can provide the useful information for the better quality control of coated films. Flexible polymer chains, e.g., λ-DNA molecules here, change their conformation according to the flow strength and the flow type. The molecular conformation within the coated film on the web or substrate is quite different, because the polymer chains experience the complicated flow strength and flow types in flow field. Especially in the slot coating flow, these chains are more extended by the extension-like flow field generated in the free surface curvature just beyond the downstream die region. Also, the polymer chain extension beneath the free surface can be affected by the die geometry, e.g., the coating gap, changing flow field.
