Purpose: To report a case of bilateral optic neuropathy related with idiopathic hypertropic pachymeningitis. Case summary: A 66-year old woman presented with acute visual loss that developed 6 days previously in the right eye and 3 days prior in the left eye. During the initial evaluation, her visual acuity was light perception in the right eye and counting fingers at 30 cm in the left eye. A relative afferent papillary defect (RAPD) was noted in the patient’s right eye. On brain MRI, the duramater was thickened and enhanced by contrast. The erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP) level were increased and myeloperoxidase-antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (MPO-ANCA) as positive. Other neurological and medical abnormalities were not found. Under the suspicion of bilateral optic neuropathy due to idiopathic hypertrophic pachymeningitis, the patient was treated with methylprednisolone pulse therapy. Two days after the treatment, the visual acuity was hand movements at 20 cm in the right eye and 0.6 in the left eye. Three months after the treatment, the visual acuity was counting fingers at 20 cm in the right eye, and 0.7 in the left eye. The right eye showed optic disc pallor and diffuse retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) defect. The left eye showed a suspicious RNFL defect, and was otherwise normal. Conclusions: The authors report a rare case of optic neuropathy related with idiopathic hypertrophic pachymeningitis. Idiopathic hypertrophic pachymeningitis should be considered as one of the various causes of optic neuropathy. J Korean Ophthalmol Soc 2011;52(7):893-896

갑상샘눈병증에서 심한 사시각변화를 보인 1예

Purpose: We report a patient with strabismus associated with thyroid ophthalmopathy whose condition changed remarkably for 6 years of a natural course. Case summary: A 69-year-old woman with Graves' disease presented with diplopia in April 1999. On examination, she showed left hypotropia of 50 prism diopters (Δ) accompanied by supraduction limitation and lid lag in the left eye. She was diagnosed with strabismus associated with thyroid ophthalmopathy and was observed without any intervention. In October 2000, her left hypotropia decreased to 16Δ, and esotropia of 14Δ developed. Both eyes showed limitation of supraduction, and the left eye showed limitation of abduction. In December 2003, the esotropia increased to 35Δ, and the direction of vertical strabismus changed to 40Δ of right hypotropia. Supraduction limitation of the right eye and abduction restriction of both eyes increased, and infraduction limitation of the left eye developed. In April 2005, esotropia increased to 75Δ, and the amount of right hypotropia was 35Δ. The abduction limitation of both eyes increased. Conclusion: The natural course of strabismus associated with thyroid ophthalmopathy can show continuous and remarkable changes. J Korean Ophthalmol Soc 49(8):1350-1355, 2008

The purpose of this research is to suggest diverse directions for eco-friendly knit designing through analyzing the characteristics of Stella McCartney's knit designs. The first stage of the research was to explore the characteristics of eco-friendly fashion design based on literature review. The next stage was to categorize the characteristics of eco-friendly design found in Stella McCartney' knit fashion based on the precedent analysis. The data collected showed 274 examples from 40 Stella McCartney collections, including Spring, Resort, Pre-Fall, and Fall Ready-to-wear collections between 2013 and 2022. All information was collected using www.vogue.com. As a result, the characteristics of Stella McCartney's knit design were classified into four directopms: 1) Perpetual Naturalism, 2) Cultural Complexity, 3) Practical Functionality, and 4) Subcultural Reproducibility. The first characteristic, 'Perpetual Naturalism' values the continuous symbiosis between animals and human beings, thereby protecting global environmental value. Stella McCartney's knit design continuously showed a longing for nature's beauty through fashion design, which allowed people to enjoy the meaning of symbiosis between human beings and animals. Second, 'Cultural Complexity' is the characteristic that appears in Stella McCartney's knit fashion design when collaborating with various artists and/or mixing traditional knit motives inspired by traditional cultures and retro moods. Third, 'Practical Functionality' is the design characterisitic that allows items to be worn for a long time as it is comfortable, simple, and practical. Stella McCartney's knit designs pursue easy-to-wear designs that are comfortable and have practical designs with simple details. Lastly, 'Subcultural Reproducibility' showed in Stella McCartney's knit designs reflect Hippie culture, which pursued a rejection of conventional values, and promoted sustainable energy. This culture peaked in the 1960s and 1970s, when 'Beatles' were mainly working. Additionally, retro styled knit designs inspired by other various music genres from the 1980s and 1990s appeared in this category as well.

Purpose: This study investigated the natural course of strabismus associated with thyroid ophthalmopathy. Methods: A retrospective review was performed on the medical records of 31 patients with strabismus associated with thyroid ophthalmopathy who had been followed up for more than 6 months and had not received surgery. For the purpose of this study, a significant change of deviation angle was defined as more than 10 prism diopters in the primary position. Results: Forty-two percent of patients showed a significant change in deviation angle during the observation period of 23.8±17.7 months. The direction of the change was vertical in 32%, horizontal in 3%, and vertical and horizontal in 6% of patients. A significant change of deviation angle developed in 30% of patients within 6 months from the initial ophthalmologic examination, in 24% between 6 and 12 months, and in 13% of patients between 12 and 18 months from the initial examination. Conclusions: Although the deviation angle of strabismus associated with thyroid ophthalmopathy tended to stabilize with time, it nonetheless was susceptible to change even 12 months after the initial ophthalmologic examination. Recently, the focus of research interest in artificial intelligence technology has shifted from algorithm development to application domains. Industrial sectors such as smart manufacturing, transportation, and logistics venture beyond automation to pursue digitalization of sites for intelligence. For example, smart manufacturing is realized by connecting manufacturing sites, autonomous reconfiguration, and optimization of manufacturing systems according to customer requirements to respond promptly to market needs. Currently, KSB Convergence Research Department is developing BeeAI-an on-site end-to-end intelligence platform. BeeAI offers end-to-end service pipeline configuration and DevOps technologies that can produce and provide intelligence services needed on-site. We are hopeful that in future, the BeeAI technology will become the base technology at various sites that require automation and intelligence.

Purpose: We report on a case of hemi-central retinal vein occlusion (Hemi-CRVO) which occurred in a patient with Type 1 neurofibromatosis. Case summary: A 31-year-old woman presented with a chief complaint of a one-month history of decreased visual acuity in the left eye. The patient had Type 1 neurofibromatosis but had no other systemic diseases. The best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 0.8 in the right eye and 0.05 in the left eye. Multiple Lisch nodules were present in the irises of both eyes on slit lamp examination. Fundus examination revealed a hemi-central retinal artery occlusion in the left eye. Optical coherence tomograms showed that the central macular thickness was 192 microns in the right eye and 732 microns in the left eye. There was cystoid macular edema in the left eye. A fluorescein angiogram showed delayed filling in the superior branch retinal vein of the left eye. There was an extensive area of non-perfusion of the retinal capillary in the corresponding area, including the perifoveal area. Blood tests for hyper-coagulability, autoimmune disorders, connective tissue disorders and other tests for the brain and carotid artery and coronary artery disease showed no abnormal findings. The clinical course was monitored following an intravitreal injection of bevacizumab (AvastinⓇ). Eight months later, the BCVA had improved to 0.2. Conclusions: Although it is rare, hemi-CRVO occurring in younger patients who have no underlying diseases could be related to neurofibromatosis. J Korean Ophthalmol Soc 2010;51(1):150-154
