The purpose of this study was to survey on infection status of pathogens of diarrhea from Korean indigenous goat. A total of 800 fecal samples was collected from 50 farms from January to November 2016 and was tested by automatic biochemical machine and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The overall infection rates of parasitic, bacterial and viral pathogens was 13.0%, 23.0%, 11.3% and the rates of coccidia, Escherichia coli (E. coli), bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV), rotavirus and coronavirus were 13.0%, 23.0%, 5.3%, 8.8% and 2.6%, respectively. In the rates of mixed detection, single was 29.8%, double 5.1%, triple 2.8%, quadruple 1.1% in each sample, respectively.

59 strains of Salmonella enterica subspecies enterica serovar Typhimurium (S. Typhimurium) were isolated from pigs in Gyeongbuk province, collected from 2011 to 2016. The isolates were investigated for the presence of antimicrobial resistance and multi drug resistance patterns. All 59 S. Typhimurium isolates were resistant to at least one of 10 antibiotics used in this study, 100% of S. Typhimurium isolates from pigs were resistant to two or more antimicrobials. As many as 5 isolates of isolates from pigs were resistant to 8 of 10 antimicrobials tested in this study. The ACSTNaGmKNaCf, ACSTGmAuKT/S, ACSTGmKCfT/S resistance phenotype was observed in 3.4%, 3.4%, 1.7% of the 59 isolates, respectively.

Salmonella is one of the most common bacteria that causes heavy losses in swine industry and major causative pathogen of food poisoning in public health. Various methods for the identification of Salmonella such as Gram staining, agglutination test, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), pol-ymerase chain reaction (PCR) have been used. Several studies have demonstrated that Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Time of Flight (MALDI TOF) Mass Spectrometry (MS) identification is an efficient and inexpensive method for the rapid and routine identification of isolated bacteria. In this study, MALDI TOF MS could provide rapid, accurate identification of Salmonella spp. from swine compared with end point PCR and real time PCR.

The purpose of this study was to survey on infection status of pathogens of diarrhea from Korean indigenous goat. A total of 800 fecal samples was collected from 50 farms from January to October 2015 and was tested by automatic biochemical machine and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The overall detection ratio of bacterial pathogens was 22.4% and viral pathogens was 16.3%, respectively. The detection ratio of Escherichia coli (E. coli), Salmonella spp., bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV), rotavirus and coronavirus were 21.5%, 0.9%, 7.6%, 5.6% and 3.0%, respectively. In the rates of mixed detection, single was 78.2%, double 8.4%, triple 11.6% and quadruple 1.8% in each sample and 38%, 12%, 16%, 20% in each farm, respectively.

The purpose of this study was to survey seroprevalence of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) virus and porcine circovirus-2 (PCV-2) in Gyeongbuk province by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). A total of 966 samples collected from 21 pig farms were tested. The sero-positive rate of PRRS and PCV-2 were 77.6% (750/966) and 76.4% (738/966), respectively.

Three serotypes (O, A and Asia1) of the foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccine were injected into domestic cloven-hoofed animals in korea after the nationwide spread at the end of 2010. The purpose of this study was survey of FMD virus stuructural protein (SP) antibody titer in Yeongcheon by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Total 1,324 samples collected from 89 farms were tested. The overall seroprevalence of FMD virus SP antibodies was 58.8% (778/1,324) The seroprevalence of FMD virus SP antibody varied with species. Results in cattle (over 12 month old) and pig (90 to 130 day old) were 58.8% and 44.9% respectively.

The purpose of this study was survey of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) virus antibody in Gyeongbuk province by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Total 690 samples collected from 15 pig farms were tested. The overall seroprevalence of PRRS virus antibodies was 63.2% (436/690) and 13 farms of 15 farms had at least one pig with PRRS virus antibodies. The seroprevalence of PRRS virus antibody varied with age. Results in 1 to 30 day old, 31 to 60 day old, 61 to 90 day old, 90 to 120 day old and over 120 day old pig were 58.3%, 36.0%, 68.0%, 84.0%, 80.0% and sow were 61.9% respectively.

This study was conducted to investigate the species-specific gene detection, capsular serogroup and antimicrobial resistance pattern of Pasteurella multocida isolated from pneumonic lung lesion of swine in Gyeongbuk province. P. multocida isolates were typed for capsular serogroups by polymerase chain reaction. Of the 32 strains, 28 (87.5%) were typed serotype A, 3 (9.3%) were typed serotype D, and 1 strain was unknown (3.1%), respectively. In antimicrobial agents resistance test, almost of strains were susceptible to amoxicillin (100%), enrofloxacin (96.9%), ampicillin (93.8%), florfenicol (90.6%), chloramphenicol (90.6%)and were resistant to streptomycin (71.9%), spectinomycin (56.3%). All strains were resistant to clindamycin, erythromycin and lincomycin.

Two 12-month-old cattle with anthelmintics containing trichlorfon the day before death presented to the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency for diagnosis. In necropsy, they revealed enlargement of the spleens, redness of mucosa and serosa in stomachs and intestines, and friable kidneys. Histopathologically, hemorrhages in the spleens, omasums, abomasums, and intestines as well as renal tubular necrosis were observed. Trichlorfon was detected at above the lethal dose in the ruminal contents. Based on these findings, we diagnosed this case as death caused by trichlorfon poisoning.

Eight rabbits exhibited head tilt and subsequently died. At necropsy, three rabbits had crusty deposits in ears and four had reddish lungs. The main histopathological features were severe diffuse suppurative meningoencephalitis (75.0% of rabbits), fibrinopurulent pneumonia (37.5%), and otitis externa (37.5%). Pasteurella multocida (P. multocida) was isolated from brains, ears, and lungs. The capsular serogroups of the isolates were untypable. Based on histopathological features and bacterial analysis results, the rabbits were diagnosed as P. multocida infection. P. multocida infections might result in considerable economic loss in commercial rabbit production facilities in Korea.
