동학·천도교의 개벽사상과 개벽운동 -의암 손병희의 인물개벽론과 현대적 계승을 중심으로-

The Great Opening (gaebyeok) thinking of Donghak (Eastern Learning) and Cheondogyo can be summarized as the ‘Great Opening theory of the trinity of talents.’ The characteristics can be defined as the theory of ‘Dasi (New) Gaebyeok’ by Suun Choe Je-u, the founder of Donghak, the theory of ‘Later Day’s Gaebyeok’ by Haewol Choe Si-hyeong, the successor of Suun, and the theory of Inmul-Gaebyeok by Uiam Son Byeong-hee, the successor of Haewol. The theory of Inmul-Gaebyeok consists of the concrete elements of heaven, earth and humans and, based on this thinking, Donghak campaigned for the Great Opening movement since it’s foundation. The ideas inherited and passed on from the Donghak’s Gaebyeok can be found in examples such as the ‘Gaebyeok-pa (group)’ or ‘Gaebyeok-hak (science).’ As such, while the Gaebyeok ideas of Donghak and Cheondogyo underwent various changes, they continued to try to propose visions based on the Gaebyeok as a way of addressing issues facing modern society. 동학-천도교의 개벽사상은 ‘삼재개벽론’으로 정리할 수 있다. 동학을 창도한 수운 최제우 선생은 다시개벽론, 그 계승자인 해월 최시형 선생은 후천개벽론, 그리고 세 번째 계승자인 의암 손병희 선생의 개벽론은 ‘인물개벽론’으로 그 특징을 규정할 수 있다. 인물개벽론에는 다시 천·지·인의 구체적인 계기들이 내포되고, 이러한 사상적 기반 위에서 동학은 창도 이래 개벽운동을 전개해 왔다. 오늘날 동학의 개벽사상을 계승하는 움직임은 개벽파, 개벽학 등으로 가시화되고 있다. 이처럼 동학·천도교의 개벽사상은 다양한 변주를 거치면서, 현대사회의 과제상황에 개벽적 비전을 제시하는 노력을 계속하고 있다.
