Purpose: The incidence of urolithiasis of children is low (<0.5%), hampering recognition of urolithiasis in children in the emergency department (ED) setting. Thus, delayed diagnosis and misdiagnosis is likely. We investigated the clinical characteristics of urolithiasis in children diagnosed in the ED. Methods: From May 2003 to September 2010, among the patients <18-year-of-age who visited the ED with suspicion of urolithiasis, 74 patients were selected. Exclusion criteria were age >18 years, trauma, and only hematuria on urine test. We included 40 patients diagnosed with abdominal ultrasonography, abdominal computed tomography, and IVP. We analyzed age, sex, past history, underlying disease, chief complaint, physical examination, treatment modality, complications, and recurrences of urolithiasis in children. This study was performed retrospectively. Results: Chief complaints were flank pain (19 cases,47.5%), gross hematuria (15 cases, 37.5%), and abdominal pain (14 cases, 35%). No patient had abdominal tenderness, the portion of CVA tenderness was high (62.5%). The rate of recurrence was 17.5% (7 cases). Complications of urolithiasis were present in 23 cases (57.5%); among them, the rate of complications was high when a patient had a stone at mid-ureter (p=0.024) and low when the stone was at the renal pelvis (p=0.001). Conclusion: The most common symtom in the patients was flank pain and the rate of CVA tenderness was not high. The common sites of urolithiasis were renal calyx and renal pelvis. The rate of complications was 57.5% and hydroureter was most common. The rate of complication was high when they had the stone at mid-ureter.

Adenolipoma of the thyroid gland, also called thyrolipoma, is an extremely rare neoplasm characterized by encapsulated or tumorous mass of admixtures of mature adipose tissue and thyroid tissue. Only a few scattered cases have been reported in English literatures. It should be differentiated with encapsulated papillary carcinoma, follicular neoplasm and liposarcoma. We report an additional case of an adenolipoma of the thyroid gland. (Korean J Endocrine Surg 2003;4:51-54)

Exchange rate volatility and its expectation have long been discussed since the free floating exchange rate system had been established in 1973. However nobody could have discovered the method of solving out the right equilibrium rates in the future. The purpose of this paper is to represent the time series analysis method of the estimation on the exchange rate volatility. Whether time series data are stable or not, depends on the existence of unit root. The unit root is tested in this purpose. The methods on testing the unit root such as Philips-Perron test and Dckey-Fuller test will be studied in the following paper.
Rolandic Cortical Dysplasia : 증례보고 Case Report

The advent of MRI enables us to make an in-vivo diagnosis of cortical dysplastic lesions which are highly epiletogenic and show the variety of seizure patterns. Authors report a case of rolandic cortical dysplasia who had highly intractable focal motor clonic seizures. Invasive recording with subdural grid was very helpful in delinating the epileptogenic area as well as in functional mapping of eloquent areas. Total removal of dysplastic lesion could treat this highly intractable epilepsy successfully.

Heat treatment which removes internal stress enhances the mechanical properties of the orthodontic arch wire. The main purpose of this experiment was to investigate the effects of the heat treatment on the mechanical properties of the Elgiloy wire. The Elgiloy wire, 0.016"X0.022" and 0.018"X0.025", were heat treated in an electric oven for 5, 10 and 15 minutes at selected temperatures between 300 and 900℃. Tensile strength and load deflection rate were measured to reveal the changes of mechanical property at various conditions, and each specimen was observed under metallurgic microscope. Also to trace the precipitation material due to overheat treatment, a qualitative analysis was carried out with EDS system. It was found that heat treatment at a low temperature caused an increase in the tensile strength and bending resistance, and a maintenance in the fibrous in the tensile strength and bending resistance, and a maintenance in the fibrous structure of both sizes of wire. The changes observed in properties and appearance were probably due to the relief of internal stresses incurred in the metal during cold working. In both sizes of wire the tensile strength and the bending resistance continued to decrease at high temperature, and the fibrous structure continued to disappear then was not observed at 900℃. The carbide precipitation founded in grain boundary at 750℃ probably was other elements carbide (Ni, Ca) except Cr. The grain growth was observed at 1100℃. Optimum heat treatment for the 0.016"X0.022" Elgiloy wire was 10 minutes at 500℃, and for the 0.018"X0.025: Elgiloy wire it was 5 to 15 minutes at 500℃.
