      • A Development of Assessment Model for Maintenance of Type R Fire Alarm System in the Building

        Type R fire alarm is required intelligent buildings and height buildings which was based on automatic system. But in Korea, maintenance of fire alarm system is very poor. In this study, we developed assessment model for the type R fire alarm system which was assessed by using 96 checklist items. The assessment model was tested through the actual 4 buildings with type R fire alarm system. It is shown that present model can be applied for the assessment of all buildings through the examination of the suitability of assessment model by actual assessment. Also, it was made easily fire manager to carry out checklist for type R fire alarm system in buildings.

Preventive and Antioxidative Effects of Crude Drug Preparation(E-kong-san) on Cisplatin Induced Nephrotoxicity. Proceedings of International Symposium on East-West Medicine, Seoul. 201-211, 1999. -Nephroprotective effects of a crude drug-prearation (E-kong-san) were determined from cisplatin on rabbit kidney proximal tubule and human renal cortical cells by MTT assays and sustained glucose consumption on ciplatin-induced human renal cortical tissue. Levels of creatinine and blood ure nitrogen(BUN) in serum after administration of cisplatin(0.75mg/kg,i.p.) to E-kong-san(0.75g/kg/day,p.o.)-pretreated rats were markedly lower compared to those of cisplatin-treated rats. Moreover, the administration of E-kong-san significantly inhibited the loss of body weight of cisplatin injected rts. These findings suggest that E-kong-san on the cisplatin induced nephrotoxicity led us to investigate whether the effect of this water extract was a result of anti-oxidation. E-kong-san showed strong free radical scavenger activities on 1,1-dipheny1-2picrylhydrazil(DPPH) radical and xanthine/xanthine oxidase(XOD) generated superoxide anion radical(O2-). We further studied the effects of E-kong-san on lipid peroxidation in rat liver microsomes induced by enzymatic and nonenzymatic methods. E-kong-san exhibited significant inhibition on both ascorbic acid/Fe2+and ADP/NADPH/Fe3+ induced lipid peroxidation in rat liver microsomes. Based on these results, we suggest that-E-kong-san attenuate the cisplatin induced cytotoxicity and its mechanism can be eplained by antioxidant.

      • Development of a T-DMB Monitoring System

        With the start of T-DMB service, diverse multimedia broadcasting services became available in the high-speed mobile environment. In addition to high-quality digital radio (audio) and television (video), diverse data services, such as Dynamic Label Segment (DLS), JPEG Slideshow (SLS), Broadcast Web Site (BWS), Traffic and Travel Information (TTI), interactive service using Binary Format for Scenes (BIFS), and Visual Radio, are being serviced. Currently, there is an increase in demand in the market for T-DMB monitoring system that can support all the data service available. In this paper, we present T-DMB monitoring systems that can simultaneously decode 6 services of different format within the two ensemble, through suitable algorithms and multi-thread techniques.

        ‘식민지 조선’의 맥락에서 읽은 인도 시인 사로지니 나이두

        The Indian female poet Sarojini Naidu (1879∼1949) was introduced to colonial Joseon in the 1920s as a highly reputed Asian poet in the West along with Tagore, an Indian politician who led the Salt March with Gandhi in 1930. Due to the uniqueness of her association with Tagore and Gandhi—two prominent figures from India—Naidu rarely received much attention as a foreign female poet in colonial Joseon. However, since Naidu was introduced to Joseon after she had stopped writing and was more actively involved in political activities led by Gandhi, some regarded her as a poet, while others viewed her as a politician. This study highlights Naidu and her works, aiming to reveal the context in which emphasis is changed depending on time period, and attempts to build an integrated understanding of Sarojini Naidu. In the early 1920s, Kim Eok focused on poet Naidu, with a focus on her love poems. Then, in the mid 1920s, Naidu’s poetry was introduced as an example of sympathetic linguistic literature for oppressed people. Around 1930, Jeong, In-seop and Lee, Ha-yun regarded Naidu as more of a politician and introduced poems directly expressing the voice of Indian nationalism. The writers and poets of colonial Joseon felt an affinity for Naidu, who came from a colonized country herself, and used her works based on their own areas of interest. In India, Naidu’s literary and political activities are considered outdated. It is often said that her “aesthetics is feudal, although her politics is democratic nationalism.” Recently, it has been proposed that Naidu’s poems require reinterpretation as both a collusion with and resistance to colonialism. Her works are retrogressive in the use of India’s traditional customs and nature as subject matter but, at the same time, stem from a resistance to modern urbanization. Heo Jeong-suk, a socialist feminist who translated Naidu’s poems into the Korean language for readers in colonial Joseon, seemed to have been well aware of their contextual framing, that is, “a collusion with and resistance to colonialism.”

        『대한신문(大韓新聞)』과 이인직

        The present study seeks to elucidate the Daehan Sinmun (Korean Newspaper)’s contents through a source book (hereafter “excerpt collection”) transcribing editorials and some articles published in the daily from July 18, 1907 (first issue) to December 28, 1909 and to analyze the logic of journalists as represented by In-jik Yi (1862-1916). First, upon comparison between articles in the Daehan Maeil Sinbo (Korea Daily News) critical of the Daehan Sinmun and the excerpt collection, it was possible to confirm that the latter served as the original source for the collection of excerpts. Second, “A Song of the Righteous Armies Longing for Home” (Uibyeong Sahyang-ga) in the excerpt collection, a work that had sought to persuade members of the anti-Japanese righteous armies (uibyeong) to surrender, was similar in its logical structure to the speech made by Ong-nam Choe in the latter half of the novel The Silver World (Eunsegye) encouraging members of the righteous armies to capitulate.

        민간공연예술축제 프로그래밍의 새로운 전략적 모색 : 서울변방연극제 사례를 중심으로

        2000년대 들어 한국에 수많은 공연예술축제가 생겨나면서 축제마다 정체성 구축과 독자적 프로그래밍의 방향설정이 더욱 중요하게 되었다. 특히 민간공연예술축제는 많은 예산과 인력이 필요한 공연예술축제의 특성상 그 독립성과 프로그램의 다양성을 유지해가기 위해 관(官) 주관의 축제와는 다른 방식의 전략적 모색이 요청되었다. 1999년 ‘젊은 연출가들의 속셈 전’이라는 주제 아래에 시작된 서울변방연극제는 장르 간 경계를 허무는 공연들을 선보이는 실험의 장으로서 기능해 왔으며 2대 임인자 감독 역시 문화계에 자행되었던 블랙리스트 사태 이후 민간독립예술축제의 독립성과 독창성을 유지하기 위해 정부지원금을 거부하고 모금으로 연극제를 개최하는 등의 행보를 이어갔다. 2015년 3대 예술감독으로 부임한 이경성은 서울변방연극제의 정체성을 이어가면서도 연극제의 도약을 위해 한국 민간공연예술축제로서는 처음으로 인터위빙을 바탕으로 한 국제공동 큐레이팅 방식을 도입, 연극제를 공연 토크, 워크로 개편하였다. 이렇게 20년간 여러 형식적 변모를 통해 지속할 수 있었던 서울변방연극제의 사례를 바탕으로 민간공연예술축제가 참조할 수 있는 새로운 프로그래밍 전략들을 모색해 볼 수 있을 것이다. 예술감독 중심체제를 벗어난 다자간 공동 큐레이팅, 시대적 흐름 속에서 축제의 자기 정체성 강화, 팬데믹 시대에 이동성보다 연결성을 강조한 국제공동협업의 프로그래밍이 그러한 제안이 될 수 있겠다. 앞으로 민간공연예술축제는 어려운 재정적 요건과 공연예술의 위기라고 일컬어지는 작금의 코로나 상황 속에서 프로그래밍의 새로운 전략적 모색을 통해 대안적 공연예술 플랫폼의 역할과 기능을 더욱 강화해 나가야 할 것이다. As numerous performing arts festivals have been established in Korea after 2000, it is getting more important to establish identity and direction of unique programming for each festival. In particular, due to the nature of the performing arts festival, which requires a lot of budget and human resource, a new strategic search is needed to maintain its independence and program diversity. Launched in 1999 under the theme of Young Director‘s New Vision , the Seoul Marginal Theatre Festival has played the role of experimental platform for performances that break down the boundaries between genres. In order to maintain the independence and originality of the festival, former artistic director of Seoul Marginal Theatre Festival, Im, In-Za refused government subsidies and held a festival by public fund-raising in 2015. Lee Kyung-Sung, who was appointed as the 3rd artistic director, adopted the international collaborative curating system for the leap of the festival in 2019 and re-structured the festival program into Performance, Work, Talk. From the case of the Seoul Marginal Theatre Festival, which has been continued through various formal transformations for 20 years, it is possible to explore new programming strategies that can be also bench-marked by other independent performing arts festival. Multilateral co-curating overcoming the artistic director-centered system attempt at the 19th Seoul Marginal Theatre Festival, reinforcement of the festival s self-identity in the trend of the times, and international collaboration programming emphasizing new connectivity in the Pendemic era could be such proposals. In the future, the independent performing arts festival should strengthen its role and function as an alternative performing arts platform by seeking a new strategic approach for programming amid difficult financial conditions and the current corona virus situation regarded as the crisis of performing arts.

        자궁경부암에서 혈관 내피 성장인자 ( VEGF ) 및 VEGF Mrna 의 발현에 대한 연구

        N/A Objective : Angiogenesis, the formation of blood vessels by sprouting from pre-existing ones, is essential for the growth of solid tumors beyond 2~3mm in diameter and for tumor metastasis. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), is known as vascular permeability factor(VPF) and mediates vascularization and tumor-induced angiogenesis. This study examined the potential of growth, invasion, and metastasis of uterine cervical carcinomas associated with neovascularization. Methods : From January 1996 to December 1999, at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Kyung-Hee University Hospital, 37 uterine cervical carcinomas and 7 normal cervical tissues were obtained and the samples were immediately frozen and stored at -70℃. Immunohistochemical staining for VEGF was carried out to study VEGF localization, and the levels of VEGF subtype mRNAs were determined by quantitative RT-PCR in specimens. The relation between VEGF subtypes expression of cervical cancers was analysed. Results : The positive staining for VEGF is seen dominantly in the cytoplasm of the cancer cells, and faintly in interstitial cells. The intensity of staining was stronger in squamous carcinomas than in adenocrcinomas, but there was no significant difference (p>0.05). Quantitative RT-PCR analysis demonstrated significantly increased VEGF121/VEGF165 mRNA expression levels (>0.56/>0.72) in 21 (56.8%) and 15 (40.5%) of 37 cervical carcinomas comparing to control groups (mean: 0.28/0.36). There was no obvious relationship between VEGF121/VEGF165 mRNA expression levels and the clinical parameters examined including age, pathology, differentiation, tumor size, lymphovascular space invasion, LN involvement and invasion depth except clinical stage (p<0.05). Conclusions : The overexpression of VEGF mRNA may be an important contributing factor in cervical carcinomas. There is no significant differenece of VEGF mRNAs levels according to clinical parameters, so it seems that the expression of VEGF is involved in the promotion of angiogenesis on cervical cancer and plays an important role in early invasion.

      • BEZ235 (PIK3/mTOR inhibitor) Overcomes Pazopanib Resistance in Patient-Derived Refractory Soft Tissue Sarcoma Cells

        <P><I>BACKGROUND:</I> Although pazopanib treatment has become the standard chemotherapy in salvage setting for metastatic sarcoma patients, most patients progress after pazopanib treatment in 4 to 6 months. After failure to pazopanib, patients have limited options for treatment. Therefore, subsequent therapy in patients who failed to pazopanib is urgently needed and the use of patient derived cells or patient derived tumors for accompanying testing with various pharmacological inhibitors could offer additional treatment options for these patients. <I>METHODS:</I> Patient derived tumor cells were collected from ascites at the time of progression to pazopanib and a 13-drug panel was tested for drug sensitivity. We confirmed the results using <I>in vitro</I> cell viability assay and immunoblot assay. We also performed the genomic profiling of PDX model. <I>RESULTS:</I> The growth of patient derived tumor cells was significantly reduced by exposure to 1.0 μM AZD2014 compared with control (control versus AZD2014, mean growth = 100.0% vs 16.04%, difference = 83.96%, 95% CI = 70.01% to 97.92%, <I>P</I> = .0435). Similarly, 1.0 μM BEZ235 profoundly inhibited tumor cell growth <I>in vitro</I> when compared to control (control versus BEZ235, mean growth = 100.0% vs 7.308%, difference = 92.69%, 95% CI = 78.87% to 106.5%, <I>P</I> < .0001). Despite the presence of CDK4 amplification in the patient-derived tumor cells, LEE011 did not considerably inhibit cell proliferation when compared with control (control vs LEE011, mean growth = 100.0% vs 80.23%, difference = 19.77%, 95% CI = 1.828% to 37.72%, <I>P</I> = .0377). The immunoblot analysis showed that BEZ235 treatment decreased pAKT, pmTOR and pERK whereas AZD2014 decreased only pmTOR. <I>CONCLUSION:</I> Taken together, upregulation of mTOR/AKT pathway in sarcoma patient derived cells was considerably inhibited by the treatment of AZD2014 and BEZ235 with downregulation of AKT pathway (greater extent for BEZ235). These molecules may be considered as treatment option in STS patient who have failed to pazopanib in the context of clinical trials.</P>
