        Design of Low Cost Real-Time Audience Adaptive Digital Signage using Haar Cascade Facial Measures

        Digital signage is becoming part of daily life across a wide range of visual advertisements segments market used in stations, hotels, retail stores, hotels, etc. The current digital signage system used in market is generally works on limited user interactivity with static contents. In this paper, a new approach is proposed using computer vision based dynamic audience adaptive cost-effective digital signage system. The proposed design uses the Camera attached Raspberry Pi Open source platform to employ the real-time audience interaction using computer vision algorithms to extract facial features of the audience. The real-time facial features are extracted using Haar Cascade algorithm which are used for audience gender specific rendering of dynamic digital signage content. The audience facial characterization using Haar Cascade is evaluated on the FERET database with 95% accuracy for gender classification. The proposed system, developed and evaluated with male and female audiences in real-life environments camera embedded raspberry pi with good level of accuracy.

        A database of 5305 healthy Korean individuals reveals genetic and clinical implications for an East Asian population

        Despite substantial advances in disease genetics, studies to date have largely focused on individuals of European descent. This limits further discoveries of novel functional genetic variants in other ethnic groups. To alleviate the paucity of East Asian population genome resources, we established the Korean Variant Archive 2 (KOVA 2), which is composed of 1896 whole-genome sequences and 3409 whole-exome sequences from healthy individuals of Korean ethnicity. This is the largest genome database from the ethnic Korean population to date, surpassing the 1909 Korean individuals deposited in gnomAD. The variants in KOVA 2 displayed all the known genetic features of those from previous genome databases, and we compiled data from Korean-specific runs of homozygosity, positively selected intervals, and structural variants. In doing so, we found loci, such as the loci of ADH1A/1B and UHRF1BP1, that are strongly selected in the Korean population relative to other East Asian populations. Our analysis of allele ages revealed a correlation between variant functionality and evolutionary age. The data can be browsed and downloaded from a public website (https://www.kobic.re.kr/kova/). We anticipate that KOVA 2 will serve as a valuable resource for genetic studies involving East Asian populations.

        Environment Adaptive Emergency Evacuation Route GUIDE through Digital Signage Systems

        Nowadays, the most of commercial buildings are build-out with complex architecture and decorated with more complicated interiors of buildings so establishing intelligible escape routes becomes an important case of fire or other emergency in a limited time. The commercial buildings are already equipped with multiple exit signs and these exit signs may create confusion and leads the people into different directions under emergency. This can jeopardize the emergency situation into a chaotic state, especially in a complex layout buildings. There are many research focused on implementing different approached to improve the exit sign system with better visual navigating effects, such as the use of laser beams, the combination of audio and video cues, etc. However the digital signage system based emergency exit sign management is one of the best solution to guide people under emergency situations to escape. This research paper, propose an intelligent evacuation route GUIDE that uses the combination centralized Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) and digital signage for people safety and avoids dangers from emergency conditions. This proposed system applies WSN to detect the environment condition in the building and uses an evacuation algorithm to estimate the safe route to escape using the sensor information and then activates the signage system to display the safe evacuation route instruction GUIDE according to the location the signage system is installed. This paper presented the prototype of the proposed signage system and execution time to find the route with future research directions. The proposed system provides a natural intelligent evacuation route interface for self or remote operation in facility management to efficiently GUIDE people to the safe exit under emergency conditions.

        최근 국내농업은 지구 온난화에 따른 기후변화와 국가 간 교역 확대, 해외여행 증가 등으로 인해 농산물 수입이 지속적으로 확장되고 있으며, 이는 검역병해충 및 외래·돌발 병해충의 발생 확산을 야기하여 농가의 병충해 피해를 증가시키고 있다. 특히, 이 중 과수 화상병의 경우 빠른 전염속도로 인해 발생 시과수원을 폐원시키므로 농가의 심각한 피해를 가져다주고 있어 문제해결이 시급한 실정이다. 국내에서는 병충해 관리를 위해 정기적인 예찰 및 방제를 수행하고 있지만 인력 활용 및 육안으로 감염 여부를 판정하고 있어 정확한 예찰이 어려울 뿐만 아니라 인력에 의한 병의 전파가 지속적으로 우려되고 있다. 드론은 무인비행장치로 최근 비행 제어 기술의 고도화로 인해 다양한 산업에서 그 활용범위가 급속도로 향상되고 있다. 농업분야의 경우 영상 장치의 소형화, 경량화를 통해 다양한 영상센서를 드론에 장착함으로써 농지의 다양한 정보의 실시간 측정이 가능하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 드론 기반 항공 예찰을 위한 기초 연구로 항공예찰 영상의 분석 및 드론 이착륙 관리를 위한 통합 관제 시스템을 설계하였다. 통합 관제 시스템은 드론 이착륙을 위한 스테이션과 항공영상 수신 및 제어 신호 송신, 항공영상 DB 관리 및 영상 분석이 가능한 데이터 처리부로 구성된다. 이착륙 스테이션은 드론 보관을 위한 케이스 내부에 드론이착륙 지원을 위한 상하 리프트 제어와 착륙 플레이트, 기구부 등이 설치되며, 드론의 이착륙에 따라 루프가 자동 개폐되도록 설계되었다. 데이터 관리부는 수신된 항공 영상을 위치-예찰정보로 데이터베이스화한 후 이를 이용하여 영상학습 모델 기반 과수병 예찰영상 분석을 수행한다. 학습 영상 데이터는 각각의 항공 영상을 분할하여 훈련, 검증, 테스트 데이터로 분류하며, 훈련 데이터는 샘플 수 증가 및 오버피팅(over-fitting) 감소를 위해 잘라내기, 회전, 밝기/색상 변환 등 데이터 증강 후 사용된다. 영상학습 기반예찰 기술의 적용성은 사과 과수 화상병 항공영상을 이용하여 적용 가능성을 평가하였다. 본 시스템을 활용한 예찰 수행 시 인력 예찰 문제 해결 및 과수원의 항공영상 정보 수집의 자동화가 가능할 것으로 예측되며, 이를 위해서는 과수병 증상이 발현된 항공영상 관련 데이터베이스 구축을 통한 예찰 모델 정확도 향상과 최적화된 드론의 운행 제어를 통한 항공 예찰의 효율 향상이 필요할 것으로 판단된다.

      • Identification of tumor suppressor miRNAs by integrative miRNA and mRNA sequencing of matched tumor–normal samples in lung adenocarcinoma

        <P>The roles of miRNAs in lung cancer have not yet been explored systematically at the genome scale despite their important regulatory functions. Here, we report an integrative analysis of miRNA and mRNA sequencing data for matched tumor–normal samples from 109 Korean female patients with non‐small‐cell lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). We produced miRNA sequencing (miRNA‐Seq) and RNA‐Seq data for 48 patients and RNA‐Seq data for 61 additional patients. Subsequent differential expression analysis with stringent criteria yielded 44 miRNAs and 2322 genes. Integrative gene set analysis of the differentially expressed miRNAs and genes using miRNA–target information revealed several regulatory processes related to the cell cycle that were targeted by tumor suppressor miRNAs (TSmiR). We performed colony formation assays in A549 and NCI‐H460 cell lines to test the tumor‐suppressive activity of downregulated miRNAs in cancer and identified 7 novel TSmiRs (miR‐144‐5p, miR‐218‐1‐3p, miR‐223‐3p, miR‐27a‐5p, miR‐30a‐3p, miR‐30c‐2‐3p, miR‐338‐5p). Two miRNAs, miR‐30a‐3p and miR‐30c‐2‐3p, showed differential survival characteristics in the Tumor Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) LUAD patient cohort indicating their prognostic value. Finally, we identified a network cluster of miRNAs and target genes that could be responsible for cell cycle regulation. Our study not only provides a dataset of miRNA as well as mRNA sequencing from the matched tumor–normal samples, but also reports several novel TSmiRs that could potentially be developed into prognostic biomarkers or therapeutic RNA drugs.</P>

      • Comparison of Predicted Exercise Capacity Equations in Adults Korean Subjects

        Background/Aims Maximal oxygen uptake (VO2 max) is useful index for assessment of exercise capacity. There is no reference value of VO2 max for Koreans. The purpose of this study is to compare actual VO2 max and predicted VO2 max using exercise capacity equations. Method This is a retrospective study using data for 383 patients who underwent cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) with incremental maximal cycle ergometer test at Asan medical center from January, 2020 to May, 2021. Among subject, stage 1, 2 lung cancer patients with no dyspnea and healthy persons with complaints of dyspnea of 131 subjects who had maximal CPET was analyzed. Results The study population aged 66±10 with male predominance (74%). CPET Results were VO2 max (L/min) of 1.25±0.32, VO2 max (ml/kg/min) of 19.6±3.6, peak work rate (watts) of 93.6±25.4, peak heart rate (bpm) of 146±20, peak O2 pulse (ml/beat) of 9.1±3, ventilator efficiency of 34±4.1, peak respiratory rate 34±7, and peak breathing reserve (%) of 35±18. There was significant discordance between the measured VO2 max and predicted VO2 max when predicted by the Jones, Hansen, and Wasserman prediction equations developed by Caucasian population (P < 0.001). Agreement using Bland-Altman test between True VO2 max and predicted VO2 max was the best in Chinese equation (-0.15, 2SD = 0.46) compared to Jones (0.43, 2SD = 0.98), Hansen (0.42, 2SD = 0.69), and Wasserman (0.42, 2SD = 0.69) equations Conclusions The reference value and prediction equation from studies in which populations were primarily Caucasian may not be appropriate for Koreans. Since the mean difference is the lowest in Chinese equation, it is considered appropriate to use Chinese equation in the Korean adult population.
