        Activity, Participation, and Goal Awareness After Acquired Brain Injury: A Prospective Observational Study of Inpatient Rehabilitation

        Objective To examine the frequency and timing of inpatient engagement in meaningful activities within rehabilitation (within and outside of structured therapy times) and determine the associations between activity type, goal awareness, and patient affect.Methods This prospective observational study performed behavioral mapping in a 42-bed inpatient brain injury rehabilitation unit by recording patient activity every 15 minutes (total 42 hours). The participants were randomly selected rehabilitation inpatients with acquired brain injury; all completed the study. The main outcome measures included patient demographics, observation of activity, participation, goal awareness, and affect.Results The inpatients spent 61% of the therapeutic day (8:30 to 16:30) in their single room and were alone 49% of the time. They were physically socially inactive for 76% and 74% of their awake time, respectively, with neutral affect observed for about half of this time. Goal-related activities were recorded for only 25% of the inpatients’ awake time. The odds of physical activity were 10.3-fold higher among in patients receiving support to address their goals within their rehabilitation program (odds ratio=10.3; 95% confidence interval, 5.02–21.16).Conclusion Inpatients in a mixed brain injury rehabilitation unit spent a large amount of their awake hours inactive and only participated in goal-related activities for a quarter of their awake time. Rehabilitation models that increase opportunities for physical, cognitive, and social activities outside of allied health sessions are recommended to increase overall activity levels during inpatient rehabilitation.

        초등학습자의 창의성 함양을 위한 다학문적 통합프로그램의 현장 적합성 사례 연구

        The purpose of this study is to review the field application of multidisciplinary integrated programs developed to foster creativity in elementary school students by applying it the elementary education, which serves as a basis to explore the possibility of continuing the programs in elementary schools. In this study, four activity themes were applied to classes in the 5th to 6th grades of elementary school, and the results were analyzed through the students' 'self-evaluation checklist' and two interviews with teachers. Based on the results, the implications for the development and operation of the integrated programs are presented as follows. First, in relation to the purpose of the integrated programs, these programs are not aimed directly at cultivating creativity, but rather to arouse interests in creativity and to motivate and expand opportunities for participation in the relevant activity themes. Second, in relation to the content of the programs, what is more important than the fact that various subject matters are linked is whether the activity themes covered provide new and beneficial experiences. Also more important is what kind of themes the subject matters are linked with. Third, in their operation, the programs have the potential to treat the core content or concepts of various subject matters as simple interests or secondary. Therefore, when dealing with a specific activity theme, the content or concepts covered in the relevant subject matters must be related to the activity theme. If the content or concepts are neglected, there is a possibility that the integrated programs will merely be a fun game where it is difficult to know what has been taught and learned, as sometimes seen in critical comments. 본 연구의 목적은 초등학교 학생들의 창의성을 함양하기 위하여 개발된 다학문적 교과통합프로그램을 초등교육 현장에 적용해 봄으로써 해당 프로그램의 현장 적합성을 검토하고, 이를 기반으로 다학문적 통합프로그램을 초등교육에 지속시킬 수 있는 방안을 모색하는 데에 있다. 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 교과통합프로그램의 일환으로 네 개의 활동주제를 초등학교 5~6학년군 수업에 적용해 보고, 그 결과를 학생들의 ‘자기평가 체크리스트’ 및 교사들과의 두 차례의 면담을 통하여 검토하였다. 그 검토 결과를 바탕으로, 다학문적 통합프로그램의 개발 및 운영에 주는 시사점을 제시하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 교과통합프로그램의 목적과 관련하여, 본 프로그램은 창의성의 함양에 직접적인 목적을 두기 보다는 창의성에 관심을 환기시키고, 해당 활동주제에 대한 동기유발 및 참여기회를 확대하는 데에 목적을 두는 것이 현장 적합성에 부합한다는 것이다. 둘째, 교과통합프로그램의 내용과 관련해서 보면, 다양한 교과가 연계된다는 점 이상으로 중요한 것은 그것을 통하여 다루어지는 활동주제가 새롭고 유익한 경험을 제공해주는가의 여부, 즉 여러 교과를 연계하되 ‘어떤 주제를 가지고’ 연계할 것인가 하는 것이다. 셋째로, 교과통합프로그램의 운영과 관련해서 보면, 교과통합프로그램에서 다루는 활동주제에서는 성격상 여러 교과에서 핵심이 되는 내용이나 개념이 단순한 흥밋거리나 부차적인 것으로 취급될 가능성이 있다. 그러므로 특정한 활동주제를 다룰 때에는 반드시 관련 교과에서 다루어지는 내용이나 개념을 활동주제와 관련짓지 않으면 안 된다는 것이다. 만약 이 내용 또는 개념이 결여되거나 도외시될 경우에는 교과통합프로그램은, 때로 그에 관한 비판적 논조에서 보듯이, 무엇을 가르치고 배웠는지 알기 어려운, 재미있는 놀이에 그칠 가능성이 있다.

        국내 다학제 화산연구 플랫폼의 필요성

        The recent trend in volcanic research emphasizes a highly reliable response to volcanic crisis by removing as much uncertainty as possible based on a deep understanding of the basic principles of volcano-magma processes through a multidisciplinary approach and data sharing. In addition, it is trying to convert a large-scale multidisciplinary volcano monitoring network and big data utilization technology to big volcano science. Due to the absence of a threatening active volcano, domestic volcanic research remains at the level of qualitative research in the 1980s and 1990s. In order to raise the weak domestic volcanoes research capability to the level of advanced countries, it is necessary to establish a multidisciplinary volcano monitoring system test-bed where volcano researchers in various fields can share information and conduct joint research. It will be used as a research site to strengthen domestic volcanic research capabilities and promote research and technology exchanges and joint research with leading countries in volcanic research. More importantly, when the volcanic eruption crisis of Mt. Baekdu recurs, the test-bed will be able to play the role of an emergency volcano monitoring system that can be immediately relocated, installed, and operated jointly. Efforts of geology society are required so that the government's interest and budget support can be achieved by constantly raising the need and justification for a multidisciplinary volcano research platform. 최근 화산연구 동향은 다학제 접근과 데이터 공유에 의한 화산/마그마 과정(volcano-magma processes)의기본 원리에 대한 깊은 이해를 기반으로 최대한 불확실성을 제거한 신뢰성 높은 화산 위기 대응이 강조되고 있다. 또한 대규모 다학제 화산감시 네트워크와 빅데이터 활용 기술을 화산연구에 접목하는 거대화산과학(big volcano science)으로 전환을 시도하고 있다. 위협적인 활화산의 부재로 국내 화산연구는 80~90년대 정성적 연구 수준에 머물러 있으나, 동북아 최대 활화산인 백두산 화산 분화에 대한 국민적 관심과 정·관·학의 화산재해대비·대응 필요성이 꾸준히 제기되고 있다. 취약한 국내 화산연구 역량을 선진국 수준으로 높이기 위해 다양한분야의 화산연구자들이 함께 정보를 공유하고 공동 연구를 수행할 수 있는 다학제 화산감시시스템 테스트베드(test-bed) 구축이 필요하다. 테스트베드는 국내 화산연구 역량 강화와 화산연구 선도국과 연구·기술 교류 및 공동 연구를 추진할 수 있는 연구 현장으로 활용될 것이다. 더욱 중요한 점은 백두산 화산 분화 위기가 재발하였을 때 남북이 공동으로 즉시 이전·설치·운용이 가능한 비상용 화산감시시스템의 역할을 담당할 수 있을 것이다. 다학제 화산연구 플랫폼의 필요성과 당위성을 꾸준히 제기하여, 정부의 관심과 예산 지원이 이뤄질 수 있도록학계 차원의 노력이 요구된다.

        A Scopus-Based Analysis of Publication Activity in Kazakhstan from 2010 to 2015: Positive Trends, Concerns, and Possible Solutions

        The article analyzes the publication activity of scientific authors from Kazakhstan based on Scopus and SCImago Journal & Country Rank data from 2010 to 2015. The number of indexed multidisciplinary and medical articles from the country has been steadily growing from 2011 onward and this can be due to the adoption of the new Law on Science in that year. Several regulatory legal acts have been issued in recent years aimed at improving the quality of local journals and the international recognition of academic degrees and titles. Publication activity of scientific authors from Kazakhstan was found to be higher than that from other countries in the Central Asian region. However, there are still many unresolved issues related to the English language barrier, lack of indexing status of local journals, and poor topical education on science writing and editing. As such, the number of articles published in ‘predatory’ journals remains sizable, and there are concerns over authors’ negligence and plagiarism. The global solution to the discussed problems may be achieved by educating researchers, authors, reviewers, and editors.

        비만 아동의 통합적 캠프와 사후관리가 비만도 체력 및 심혈관 질환 위험요인에 미치는 영향

        The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of a multidisciplinary camp on body composition, physical fitness, and cardiovascular disease risk factors in obese children. A total of 107 children(age: 12.0±0.84, BMI: 25.96±3.08 kg/m2) participated in the multidisciplinary camp program, of which 42 children returned for 12 week follow-up. The camp program included physical activities(1500 kcal/day), controlled nutrition consumption(2000 kcal/day), education program and behavior modification. After the camp, children were instructed to continue physical activities and diet using self-management skills learned from the behavior modification in the camp. The result showed that significant reduction in BMI, waist circumference, percent body fat, blood pressure, insulin, insulin resistance, total cholesterol, triglycerides while HDL-cholesterol levels and physical fitness were improved after one week of multidisciplinary camp. Improvement in percent body fat, blood pressure, insulin, insulin resistance, total cholesterol, and HDL-cholesterol were not maintained after the 12-week follow-up period while improvement in body mass index, waist circumference, triglycerides, and physical fitness were maintained. These findings suggest that short-term intense multi-disciplinary lifestyle modification camp had beneficial effects on body composition, physical fitness, and CVD risk factors in obese children. Further investigations are need to identify key factors influencing long-term lifestyle modification.

        교과와 창의적 체험활동의 통합적 설계를 통한 민주시민교육 방안

        본 연구는 교과와 창의적 체험활동의 통합적인 설계를 통한 민주시민교육 방안을 탐 색한 연구이다. 이를 위해 2015 개정 교육과정에서 시민성 함양을 얼마만큼 강조하는지 를 살펴보았고 기존의 민주시민교육의 문제점을 논의하였으며 창의적 체험활동을 활용 한 접근의 필요성을 고찰하였다. 2015 개정 교육과정 총론의 교육목적, 교육목표에서는 개인 시민성, 공동체 시민성, 세계 시민성 차원에서 시민성 함양을 중시하고 있었다. 기 존의 민주시민교육은 언설중심의 교육에 경도되어 있어 시민성과 관련된 교육내용의 진 정한 이해, 내적인 변화를 가져오는 데 한계가 있고, 그러한 경향성은 실천적 행위를 추 동하는 것에도 방해 요인으로 작용하고 있다고 보았다. 창의적 체험활동은 실천성, 자발 성, 공동체성의 특징을 지니고 있기 때문에 그것을 극복하는 데 유망하게 활용할 수 있 다. 그러므로 교과와 창의적 체험활동을 주제중심의 다학문적 통합 방식으로 조직하여 실행할 필요가 있다는 것을 강조하였다. 그리고 그 절차를 제시하면서 개발자인 교사가 각 단계별로 수행할 과업을 기술하였고 필요한 만큼 그 예시를 들었다. 본 연구를 통해, 민주시민 양성과 관련된 앎, 내적 변화, 실천적 행위 간의 정합성을 갖춘 민주시민교육 이 이루어져야 한다는 것을 강조하고자 하였다. This study explored a plan of democratic citizen education through the integrated design of the subjects and creative experiential activities curriculum. To this end, I looked at how much emphasis is on citizenship enhancement in the 2015 revised curriculum. And discussed the existing problems of the democratic citizen education. Also discussed the need for approaches utilizing creative experiential activities curriculum. The general purpose of the 2015 revised curriculum emphasized the enhancement of citizenship in terms of individual citizenship, community citizenship, and global citizenship. The existing democratic citizen education is biased toward explanatory education, which has limitations in bringing true understanding of citizen education contents and change of mind. It also acted as an obstacle in driving practical behavior. Creative experiential activities curriculum have the characteristics of practicality, spontaneity, and collectivity, so it can be used to overcome them. Therefore, it emphasized that it is necessary to organize the subjects and creative experiential activities curriculum in theme-based multidisciplinary integrated way. In addition, I described teachers’ tasks to be performed at each stage while presenting the procedure. And some examples are described. Through this study, it was emphasized that the democratic citizen education should be done with the consistency of knowledge, internal change, and practical activities related to the cultivation of democratic citizens.

        미래 고령화 대비 건강노화를 위한 스포츠 과학기술과 문화예술 융합연구 방안 탐색

        4차산업 혁명과 디지털 트렌스포메이션을 통하여 변화하는 21세기에서 가장 중요한 가치와 화두는 ‘융합과 통합’을 통한 ‘혁신과 창조’이며, 첨단 과학기술의 발전 방향은 다학제간 융합 연구를 통하여 실제 사회 문제를 해결하고 새로운 가치를 창출하는 것이다. 이에 따라, 현재 글로벌 사회 문제 가운데 가장 중요도가 높게 나타나고 있는 고령화, 초고령화에 대해 첨단 과학기술 기반의 혁신적이고 창의적인 해결 방안 제시를 요구받고 있다. 특히, 한국의 고령화 특징을 살펴보면 만성질환과 질병, 줄어든 사회생활, 독거 등으로 인하여 노인층의 삶의 질은 다른 선진국에 비해 현저히 낮다. 이러한 고령사회 문제에 대한 건설적인 대응 방안으로써, 본 논문은 노인의 능동형 생활지원을 위한 육체적, 사회적, 그리고 정신적 건강을 증진시키고 유지시킬 수 있는 방안으로 고도화된 첨단 기술 기반의 스포츠과학기술과 혁신적으로 발전하고 있는 문화예술기술에서의 가상현실 기술의 접목과 융합을 제안하고자 한다. In the 21st century that change through the 4th industrial revolution and digital transformation, the most important key words are ‘innovation and creation’ through ‘convergence and integration’. In this regard, it is expected that the development of cutting-edge science and technology is realized through multidisciplinary convergence research. The aim of interdisciplinary research is to solve social problems and create new values for industry. Accordingly, this paper suggests sport technology and culture & art technology convergence as an innovative and creative solution for aging society, which are one of the most critical global social problems. In particular, considering the characteristics of aging in Korea, the quality of life of the elderly is significantly lower than that of other developed countries due to chronic diseases and diseases, reduced social life, and living alone. As a constructive solution to the problems of the aging society, this paper proposes an interdisciplinary approach to contribute to healthy aging through innovative services and systems grafting virtual reality technology in sport technology and culture & arts technology fields.

        공과대학 융합교육에 대한 사례조사 및 요구분석

        The necessity of convergence education is more emphasized based on the education policy for fostering creative men of talent. Inside universities, however, programs for training talented individuals are still at primary stage. Universities understanding the importance of convergence education and thus founding some major fields of convergence studies have experienced hosts of troubles. The paper discusses the necessary plans of supports from the government and the university to activate the convergence education in accord with the social demands. Twenty-eight professors in engineering colleges participated in the survey for reviewing the required factors for the convergence education. In addition, structured interviews were carried out with three specialists working in industry and academic area of convergence technology. The study could suggest the following activation plans based on the government supports: (1) establishing a support center of convergence education, (2) founding a major field of convergence, (3) developing curriculums and curriculum subjects, and (4) hosting related conferences and forums. Also, the study could suggest the following activation plans based on the university supports: (1) developing special programs on convergence education in accord with the industrial demands, (2) revising regulations and administrative systems more flexible for the convergence education, and (3) providing incentives to the participants in the convergence education.

        다 전문분야간의 창의적 협업을 통한 건축 기초 설계안 구축 디자인 방법론 개발에 관한 연구

        The architectural design is a synthetic activity requiring the broad knowledges and awareness in various field. These characteristics require not only the personal knowledge and personal experience but also effective harmonization of the related expertise. Our purpose is to establish an architectural methodology in order to improve the communication of the related expertise in the early phases of schematic design stages. For the achievement of the methodology, we applied new product industrial design methodologies, which are relatively active in the development of methods and tools to promote the collaborative simultaneous design, to architecture design. This paper presents their actual applications to an emergency shelter housing project, and thereby suggested an alternative architecture design process as an evolutionary example for others projects. In addition, we reviewed the application with professional architects in terms of creativity promotion and collaboration, and arranged its advantages and major improvements. As a result, our research proposes an architectural design process model promoting an creative design collaboration between the related experts in the schematic stages.
