Purpose: The present study investigates the seasonal variations of acute angle-closure glaucoma in patients visiting the hospital. Methods: Eighty-seven patients (94 eyes) who underwent laser iridotomy were retrospectively analyzed over 5 years. Monthly and seasonal variations were investigated and the difference in seasonal variations according to sex, age, and inhabited area were inspected. Results: When evaluating monthly variations, acute angle-closure glaucoma occurred mostly in January (13.8%). Incidence of glaucoma was the highest in winter (29.9%), decreased in spring and summer (26.4%) and was lowest in autumn (17.2%). In big cities, the incidence trend was highest in spring (31.8%), lowest in autumn (19.7%) and slightly elevated in winter (27.3%). However, in small cities and rural areas, the incidence was highest in summer (42.9%) and winter (38.1%). There were significant differences between inhabited areas. Conclusions: Among the patients, seasonal incidence of acute angle-closure glaucoma was the highest in winter and decreased as autumn approached. There were differences of incidence between inhabited areas.
안경 없이 정위를 유지하게 된 조절내사시 환자의 임상 양상

Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the characteristics of accommodative esotropia in patients who successfully discontinued their use of glasses and to determine which factors are predictive of successfully discontinuing the use of glasses. Methods: A retrospective review was performed of 40 patients with accommodative esotropia who were orthophoric without glasses (group A) and 58 patients with persistent esotropia without glasses (group B). The exclusion criteria were as follows: a follow-up of less than 5 years, age younger than 10 years old, less than 1.50 diopters of hyperopia, or previous strabismus surgery. We analyzed the relationships between the factors and the resolution of esotropia. Results: The mean distance esotropia (30.1 vs 24.3 prism diopters), the degree of hyperopia (+5.3 vs +3.9 diopters) and the interval between the initial prescription of glasses and the initiation of discontinuing their use were predictors of successful discontinuation of glasses in group A and B (p<.05). Conclusions: Some patients with accommodative esotropia may be successfully weared out of glasses. A smaller esotropic angle, lesser degree of hyperopia, and earlier initiation of wearing appear to be favorable factors.
고해상도 위성영상과 기존 수치표고모델을 이용하여 신뢰성이 향상된 수치표고모델의 자동 생성

스테레오 영상으로부터 수치표고모델을 생성하기 위해서는 일반적으로 두 영상 간의 정합을 수행한다. 정합은 초기 정합 후보점으로부터 시작되며, 두 영상 간의 접합점(Tie-points)이 이러한 초기 후보점 역할을 하게 된다. 이 초기 정합 후보점의 개수와 영상 내에서의 분포는 정합결과에 영향을 준다. 정합결과를 바탕으로 생성되는 수치표고모델에는 에러가 포함된다. 이러한 에러를 제거하는 가장 보편적인 방법은 주변값으로 보간하는 것이다. 본 논문에서는 신뢰성 있는 수치표고모델을 자동으로 생성하기 위해서 기존 수치표고모델을 이용하여 자동으로 추출한 접합점(Tie-points)과 영상 피라미드 그리고 정합 결과에서 발생한 이상값(Outlier)을 기존 수치표고모델로 보정하는 방법을 제안한다. 본 논문에서는 IKONOS, QuickBird, SPOTS 스테레오 영상과 DTED level 2 데이터를 이용하여 실험을 수행했으며, 실험결과를 통해서 제안된 방법으로 생성한 수치표고모델에서는 에러가 모두 제거되었음을 보여준다. 또한 기존 DTED level 2를 참값으로 하여 산출된 높이값에 대한 RMSE는 15m 미만으로, 비교적 정확한 수치표고모델을 생성하였음을 보여준다. If stereo images is used for Digital Elevation Model (DEM) generation, a DEM is generally made by matching left image against right image from stereo images. In stereo matching, tie-points are used as initial match candidate points. The number and distribution of tie-points influence the matching result. DEM made from matching result has errors such as holes, peaks, etc. These errors are usually interpolated by neighbored pixel values. In this paper, we propose the DEM generation method combined with automatic tie-points extraction using existing DEM, image pyramid, and interpolating new DEM using existing DEM for more reliable DEM. For test, we used IKONOS, QuickBird, SPOT5 stereo images and a DTED level 2 data. The test results show that the proposed method automatically makes reliable DEMs. For DEM validation, we compared heights of DEM by proposed method with height of existing DTED level 2 data. In comparison result, RMSE was under than 15 m.
인공수정체안에서 마이토마이신 섬유주절제술과 아메드 밸브삽입술의 임상 성적

`Purpose: To compare the safety and efficacy of trabeculectomy using mitomycin C (MMC) with Ahmed valve implantation in pseudophakic glaucomatous eyes. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 68 pseudophakic glaucoma patients (68 eyes) who had undergone trabeculectomy with MMC (group T, 41 eyes) or Ahmed valve implantation (group A, 27 eyes). Intraocular pressure reduction rates, cumulative probabilities of surgical success, and postoperative complications were compared between two groups. Also, risk factors for surgical failures were analyzed. Results: Intraocular pressure levels at postoperative 12 months were significantly lower in group T (13.8±5.1 mmHg) than in group A (19.6±6.4 mmHg, p=0.001). Cumulative probabilities of surgical success at postoperative 12 months were significantly higher in group T (95.0%) than in group A (66.2%, p=0.000). No significant differences were noted in the occurrences of complications except hyphema in two groups. We found that a younger age (≤50 years) and Ahmed valve implantation were significant risk factors for surgical failures. Conclusions: Trabeculectomy with MMC can be more effective and preferable as a primary surgical option over Ahmed valve implantation for pseudophakic glaucomatous eyes.`

Platelet activating factor (PAF) is a phospholipid with a strong inflammatory mediator. PAF is synthesized in a variety of cells in response to inflammatory stimuli. PAF is degraded by intracellular and extracellular PAF-acetylhydrolases (PAF-AHs) thus providing proper level of PAF. Plasma PAF-AH deficiency is associated with several diseases such as asthma, systemic lupus erythematosus, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, acute myocardial infarction, diabetes, and membranous nephropathy. Cloning of plasma PAF-AH gene enabled the use of recombinant PAF-AH as a therapeutic tool for these PAF-mediated diseases.
