■ Objectives The purpose of this case study is to report that a hypertension with intracerebral hemorrhage of tae-eumin was treated with 'Cheongsim Yeunja-tang' and then the symptoms were improved and blood pressure was decreased. ■ Methods Although the patient who had hypertension with intracerebral hemorrhage took antihypertension drugs, intermittent increase of blood pressure was shown. We diagnosed him as Tae-eumin and treated with Cheongsim Yeunja-tang. We daily checked blood pressure and evaluated the symptoms. ■ Results After the treatment with Cheongsim Yeunja-tang, blood pressure was decreased and symptoms were improved. ■ Conclusion The result shows Cheongsim Yeunja-tang has antihypertensive effect and improve hypertension symptoms of Tae-eumin patient with intracerebral hemorrhage.

Background/Aims: Fabry disease is an X-linked recessive and progressive disease caused by α-galactosidase A (α-GaL A) deficiency. We sought to assess the prevalence of unrecognized Fabry disease in dialysis-dependent patients and the efficacy of serum globotriaosylceramide (GL3) screening. Methods: A total of 480 patients of 1,230 patients among 17 clinics were enrolled. Serum GL3 levels were measured by tandem mass spectrometry. Additionally, we studied the association between increased GL3 levels and cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular disease, or left ventricular hypertrophy. Results: Twenty-nine patients had elevated serum GL3 levels. The α-GaL A activity was determined for the 26 patients with high GL3 levels. The mean α-GaL A activity was 64.6 nmol/hr/mg (reference range, 45 to 85), and no patient was identified with decreased α-GaL A activity. Among the group with high GL3 levels, 15 women had a α-GaL A genetics analysis. No point mutations were discovered among the women with high GL3 levels. No correlation was observed between serum GL3 levels and α-GaL A activity; the Pearson correlation coefficient was 0.01352 (p = 0.9478). No significant correlation was observed between increased GL3 levels and the frequency of cardiovascular disease or cerebrovascular disease. Conclusions: Fabry disease is very rare disease in patients with end-stage renal disease. Serum GL3 measurements as a screening method for Fabry disease showed a high false-positive rate. Thus, serum GL3 levels determined by tandem mass spectrometry may not be useful as a screening method for Fabry disease in patients with end stage renal disease. (Korean J Intern Med 2010;25:415-421)

<P>Patterned Si film electrodes with trench structured Cu current collector were fabricated by using a facile approach. Ribbon-like Si films were embedded in the trench with 28 mm in trench height. The structural and electrochemical characteristics of the patterned electrodes were investigated after annealing at 200, 300 and 400 degrees C. For the as-deposited Si film, the Si film consisted of Si clusters at the bottom of trenches. With increasing annealing temperature, the Cu3Si phase was formed at 300 degrees C and came to the surface of the film electrode through boundaries of Si clusters, and then the coarsened Cu3Si phase covered the Si clusters at 400 degrees C. The best electrochemical performance was obtained from the 400 degrees C-annealed Si film electrode due to synergy effects of the formations of the Cu3Si layer and trench structure, which could suppress the Si volume change during repeated electrochemical reactions. We have grown AlN/GaN heterostructure which is a promising candidate for mm-wave applications. For the growth of the high quality very thin AlN barrier, indium was introduced as a surfactant at the growth temperature varied from 750 to 1070 ℃, which results in improving electrical properties of two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG). The heterostructure with barrier thickness of 7 ㎚ grown at of 800 ℃ exhibited best Hall measurement results; such as sheet resistance of 215 Ω/□, electron mobility of 1430 ㎠/V·s, and two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) density of 2.04 x 1013 /㎠. The high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) was fabricated on the grown heterostructure. The device with gate length of 0.2 ㎛ exhibited excellent DC and RF performances; such as maximum drain current of 937 ㎃/㎜, maximum transconductance of 269 mS/㎜, current gain cut-off frequency of 40 ㎓, and maximum oscillation frequency of 80 ㎓.

Background: Accurate serum creatinine (Cr) concentration measurement is essential for evaluating kidney function. In 2011, the Korean Association of External Quality Assessment Service (KEQAS) launched an accuracy-based Cr proficiency testing (ABCr PT) survey. We analyzed long-term data of the KEQAS ABCr PT survey collected between 2011 and 2019 to assess recent trends in Cr assays in Korea. Methods: The ABCr PT survey including three commutable fresh-frozen serum samples was performed twice a year. The target Cr concentration was assigned using isotope-dilution mass spectrometry. We analyzed data obtained from the participating laboratories, calculated the yearly bias, and evaluated bias trends for the major reagents and instruments. Outliers were excluded from all analysis. Results: The mean percentage bias based on the total data of all participating laboratories was 10.8% in the 2011-A survey and 0.2% in 2019-B survey. Bias for the major reagents and instruments differed depending on the manufacturer. Enzymatic assays generally showed desirable bias ranging from –3.9% to 3.2% at all Cr concentrations and lower interlaboratory variability than non-enzymatic assays (enzymatic vs. non-enzymatic, 3.3%–7.2% vs. 6.3%–9.1%). Conclusions: Although the mean percentage bias of Cr assays tends to decrease over time, it is necessary to continuously strive to improve Cr assay accuracy, especially at low concentrations.

The slaughter process for cattle will inevitably transfer some bacteria onto the carcasses. The goal of food safety programs is to minimize and effectively remove this contamination. This study was attempted by the Verif EYETM machine-vision technology that might be useful for reducing microbial indicator counts and could reduce the contamination chance of E coli O157:H7 and Salmonella spp on beef carcasses. For the evaluation of the effectiveness of the Verif EYE TM technology, 80 samples were examined by the inspection device over 15 days. On an examination of FDS- positive samples compared to negative controls from the same carcasses, aerobic plate counts were bigger than the negative control samples(5.26 vs 4.60log). Enterobacteriaceae counts were greater on the positive samples than the corresponding negative control samples(2.07 vs 1.17log). There was a consistent correlation between samples detected by the Verif EYETM system with detectable counts. For example, 100% of positive samples had detectable APC and 91.2% of positive samples had detectable TCC. Therefore, if areas detected as positive for contamination by the Verif EYETM system were removed from the carcasses, significant sources of microbial contamination will be reduced for objective compliance with HACCP. This results suggest that the use of Verif EYETM machine-vision technology might be useful for reducing microbial indicator counts(APC, TCC) and could help reduce the risk of presence of E coli O157:H7 and Salmonella spp on Beef carcasses.
