      • Quantitative Assay for the Binding of Jun-Fos Dimer and Activator Protein-1 Site

        The Jun and Fos families of eukaryotic transcription factors form heterodimers capable of binding to their cognate DNA enhancer elements. We are interested in searching for inhibitors or antagonists of the binding of the Jun-Fos heterodimer to the activator protein-1 (AP-1) site. The basic-region leucine zipper (bZIP) domain of c-Fos was expressed as a fusion protein with glutathione S-transferase, and allowed to form a heterodimer with the bZIP domain of c-Jun. The heterodimer was bound to glutathione-agarose, to which were added radiolabeled AP-1 nucleotides. After thorough washing, the gel-bound radioactivity was counted. The assay is faster than the coventional electrophoretic mobility shift assay because the gel electrophoresis step and the autoradiography step are eliminated. Moreover, the assay is very sensitive, allowing the detection of picomolar quantities of nucleotides, and is not affected by up to 50% dimethylsulfoxide, a solvent for hydrophobic inhibitors. Curcumin and dihydroguaiaretic acid, recently known inhibitors of Jun-Fos-DNA complex formation, were applied to this Jun-GST-fused Fos system and revealed to decrease the dimer-DNA binding.

        실용음악 전공 학생들의 발성치료 전후 성대 및 음성 특성 비교

        Background and Objectives : Many students major in applied music singing have various difficulties in phonation when they sing or perform. But the studies about this cause are lack. The purpose of this study is whether singing voice therapy based on vocal music is effective or not to applied music singing students that have difficulties in phonation. Materials and Methods : Singing voice therapy program had been done to 8 students major in applied music singing during 7 weeks. We did laryngeal stroboscope, perceptual, acoustic and aerodynamic examination before and after singing voice therapy to this students. And we studied post examination results have differences or improvements compared to pre examination results. Results : Four male students don't have effective improvement after singing voice therapy but they shows slight improvement in aerodynamic examination values compared to pre examination values. Four female students shows improvement in aerodynamic examination values and pitch range increasing. Above all, one student's vocal nodules disappeared after singing voice therapy. Conclusion : Singing voice therapy based on music singing is very effective to the students major in applied music singing. Above all, their curriculum in applied music singing should include phonation training based on music singing before training perform and technic practices.

      • 全南 南部와 西部海域의 海洋物理, 化學的 特性

        Seasonal variations of physico-chemical factors were studied in both southern and western coastal waters of Chon Nam Province during a decade from 1971 to 1980. The variation of water temperature in the investigated areas was within the range of 3.6-27℃ throughout the research period. The temperature of western coastal water was lower than that of southern coastal water by 2∼4℃ in February. In spring and summer, water temperature of Jindo-Jodo area was characteristically lower than any other area by 1.0∼1.5℃. The aslinity varied within the range of 25.97∼34.32%0 throughout the research period, and showed its maximum value in February and its minimum in September. Western coastal water was always less saline than southern coastal water. Dissolved oxygen varied widely within the range of 4.25∼58.75㎖/ℓ,and showed the lowest value in September and the highest in February. Concentrations of nitrite, Phosphate, and silicate varied within the range of 0.01∼2.96 ㎍-at/ℓ, 0.06∼2.07㎍-at/ℓ, and 2.13∼29.-01 ㎍-at/ℓ, respectively. Nitrite and silicate reached their maximum concentrations in summer but phosphate reached its maximum concentration in winter. These nutrients appeared abundantly in Sinan-Mokpo area and Waned-Kangjin area, under influence of the Yongsan liver and the Tamijin liver, respectively. Transparency of waters in the investigated areas varied within the range of 0.1∼5.0m with the tendency of being lower in southern coastal area than in southern coastal area than in western coastal area. Maximum value of transparency appeared in summer, and minimum value in winter.

      • 소양호 퇴적물에 함유된 인의 존재형태와 용출가능성에 대하여

        Fractional composition and mobility of sediment phosphorus in Lake Soyang are investigated. The fractional scheme was made for four chemically defined hposphorus forms as adsorbed phosphorus, non apatite inorganic phosphorus(NAI-P), apatite phosphorus and residual phosphorus. These forms were measured by chemical extraction techmique. The most abundant fraction is residual phosphorus and the secondly abundant form NAI-P, and thirdly apatite phosphorus, and finally adsorbed phosphorus. The most efficient processes of scavening of dissolved phosphours in the lake are biological uptake and chemical complexation. To evaluate the eggects of pH on the mobility of sediment phosphorus, incubation experiments under aerobic and different pHcondition of leaching solution are accomplished. The results show the pH of the leaching solution has strong influence on the release of sediment phosphorus and increases of leaching in high pH aremore apparent in the NAI-P rich sediments than those in the residual P rich sediments.

      • Au를 공침한 SnO₂후막센서의 가스 감응 특성

        High selective and sensitive thick film type methane gas sensors were fabricated and their sensing characteristics for various hydrocarbon gases were investigated. Raw material, SnO_(2)/Au, prepared by coprecipitation was even grain size. SEM, TEM, BET and XRD analyses were carried out for investigation of surface morphology and crystalline structure. The thick film devices using the above materials exhibited high sensitivity to methane gas at the operating temperature of 400°C. The sensitivity of SnO_(2)/Au+Pd thick film devices to methane gas was higher than that to the other hydrocarbon gases such as iso-butane and propane. The optimal adding amounts of Au and Pd were 1wt.% and 3wt.%, respectively. The sensitivity, S, is defined as {(R_(A)-R_(G))/R_(A)}><100, which R_(A) and R_(G) are resistance in air and that in the gas ambient, respectively.

        Purpose : As diet habits change and the elderly popuation increases conronary artery disease(CAD) has also increased. Recent ongoing studies on varous inflammatory indexes in acute coronary syndrome(ACS) are underway. Several study results have shown that total antioxidant status(TAS) was remarkably lower in unstable angina than in chronic stable angina and levels of interleukin-(IL-6), C-reactive protein(CRP), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1(MCP-1), P-selectin were reported to be elevated in unstable angina and acute myocardial infarction(AMI). In our study, we studied and compared the level changes of cytokines and inflammatory indexes that play important roles inside the blood vessel. Methods : Study subjects were patients who were admitted and underwent coronary angiography at the cardiology department in Soonchunhyang university hospital. Subjects were divided into 4 groups, a control group, a stable angina and unstable angina group and an acute myocardial infarction group. The clinical findings, TAS, inflammatory cytokines(P-selectin, MCP-1, IL-6), anti-inflammatory cytokines(IL-10), Homocysteine and CRP levels in each group were measured and compared. Results : The total number of study participants was 86 patients, with 26 patients in the control group, 21 patients with stable angina, 15 patients with unstable angina, and 24 patients with AMI. There were significant differences in the TAS among the 4 grouops. 1.7±0.51 mmol/L, 1.6±0.60 mmol/L, 1.4±0.20 mmol/L, 1.4±0.29 mmol/L respectively. IL-6 levels also showed a significant difference between groups, averaging 0.8±2.47 pg/ml, 2.7±3.77 pg/ml, 6.8±10.63 pg/ml, 10.9±17.43 pg/ml respectively. Homocysteine levels averaged 8.0±2.47 pg/ml, 6.8±10.63 pg/ml, 10.9±17.43 pg/ml restectively. Homocysteine levels averaged 8.0±1.0 μmol/L in the control group, 14.3±5.14 μmol/L in patients with stable angina, 16.0±4.66 μmol/L in patients with unstable angina, and 17.3±10.08 μmol/L in AMI patients. Conclusion : Compared to the control group, the TAS levels were significantly lower in patients with unstable angina and AMI. there was no difference between the control group and those with stable angina. IL-6 and homocysteine levels were also higher in patients with unstable angina and AMI. Therefore we concluded that measurements of TAS, IL-6 and homocysteine are useful in measuring the inflammatory index of coronary artery diseases and may be important factors in predicting the states and prognosis of cardiovascular disorders.

        Fractional composition of surface and core sediment samples were analysed to collect quality improvement and weed control in eutrofied brackish Lake Kyungpo. Factional scheme for sediment phosphorus was made for four chemically defined phosphorus froms as adsorbed phosphorus, nonapatite inorganic phosphorus, apatite phosphorus and residual phosphorus. The analysis of surface sediment samples shows that Lake Kyungpo sediments have high labile hosphorus fraction and thus have high water phllution potential. It was found that no significant water quality improvement could be expected by dredging dowm to 1.0m depth of sediments.

In this paper, Chapter Ⅱ will summarize the methods of readjusting unadjusted disturbance when assignable causes occur in dynamic process adjustment, and of removing the causes of assignable causes.
