Objective Little is known about the characteristic differences in alexithymic construct in various psychiatric disorders because of a paucity of direct comparisons between psychiatric disorders. Therefore, this study explored disorder-related differences in alexithymic characteristics among Korean patients diagnosed with four major psychiatric disorders (n=388). Methods Alexithymic tendencies, as measured by the Korean version of the 20-item Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20K), of patients classified into four groups according to major psychiatric diagnosis were compared. The groups consisted of patients with depressive disorders (DP; n=125), somatoform disorders (SM; n=78), anxiety disorders (AX; n=117), and psychotic disorders (PS; n=68). Results We found that substantial portions of patients in all groups were classified as having alexithymia and no statistical intergroup differences emerged (42.4%, 35.9%, 35.3%, and 33.3% for DP, SM, PS, and AX). However, patients with DP obtained higher scores in factor 2 (difficulties describing feelings) than those with SM or AX, after adjusting for demographic variables. Conclusion These findings suggest that alexithymia might be associated with a higher vulnerability to depressive disorders and factor 2 of TAS-20K could be a discriminating feature of depressive disorders.

Inventory inspection is an important task to eliminate the inconsistency between real assets and inventory management systems, and it is performed periodically at the site. In the case of a large-sized property, it is mainly managed in an outdoor workshop or a warehouse. However, due to the large area of the outdoor area, it is relatively difficult to identify the quantity and location of the property and is also vulnerable to theft. To solve this problem, we proposed a method and system for performing a warehouse inventory inspection using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and Bluetooth low energy (BLE) beacons. The proposed method has the following advantages. First of all, if we carry out inventory inspection by utilizing UAV, we can minimize user’s effort compared to existing methods. The method of recognizing the asset by attaching the BLE beacon is more costly than using the existing RFID technology, but it is advantageous because the recognition distance is increased and the battery life of the tag is drastically increased. We also designed a BLE beacon reader for the system and implemented a prototype to show the feasibility of the proposed system. The prototype is based on Genuino 101, which is a kind of arduino, and adds HM-10 and Neo-6m modules to provide Bluetooth and GPS functions. The BLE beacon reader was tested in outdoor, and attached in drone. We also developed an inventory checking system based on the web to display results of inventory checking. The proposed approach enables the users to automate the operation of inventory checking on an outdoor warehouse.

This paper suggests a solution for a robust digital implementation of the output-feedback control system by utilizing intelligent digital redesign (IDR). The general IDR method involves designing a digital fuzzy controller which is comparable to a pre-designed analog one via state-matching. However, under containing the parametric uncertainties, the new problem about the structural property of the uncertainties is inevitably occurred in the procedure of discretization. For solving that, we use the bilinear and inverse-bilinear approximation method and the concerned IDR is viewed as a convex minimization problem of the norm distances between linear operators to be matched. Also, we consider the state estimation error in the plant dynamics so that we attempt to improve the control performance. The robust stability property is preserved by the proposed IDR method and its condition is represented in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The simulation results for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) system are demonstrated to visualize the feasibility of the proposed method.

Background/Aims: Multi-drug resistant pathogens are increasing among health-care-associated infections. It is well known that copper and copper alloys have antimicrobial activity. We evaluated the activity of copper against bacteria in a hospital setting in Korea. Methods: This study was conducted in a laboratory and medical intensive care unit (ICU). Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin resistant Enterococcus faecium (VRE) were inoculated onto copper, copper alloy and stainless steel plates. After 24 hours of incubation, colony-forming units (CFU) were counted in the laboratory. Two similar rooms were chosen in the ICU; one room had copper-containing surface, and the other room contained items with a stainless steel surfaces. Items were sampled weekly for 8 weeks when the rooms were not crowded and when the rooms were busier with healthcare workers or visitors. Results: In vitro time-kill curves showed copper or, a copper alloy yielded a significant reduction in MRSA and VRE CFUs over 15 minutes. Upon exposure to stain-less steel plates, CFUs were slowly reduced for 24 hours. In vivo, MRSA CFUs were lower in rooms with copper-containing surfaces compared with controls, both after cleaning and after patients had received visitors (p < 0.05). Analysis of VRE revealed similar results, but VRE CFUs from copper-containing surfaces of drug carts in the ICU did not decrease significantly. Conclusions: Copper has antimicrobial activity and appears to reduce the number of multi-drug resistant microorganisms in a hospital environment. This finding suggests the potential of the use of copper fittings, instruments and surfaces in hospital.

This study was conducted to confirm the efficacy and toxicity of docetaxel and cisplatin combination chemotherapy (DP) in patients with advanced gastric cancer. Materials and Methods: Patients with measurable gastric adenocarcinoma received intravenous docetaxel 75 mg/m2 and cisplatin 75 mg/m2 with premedication on day 1, which was repeated every 3 weeks. All patients received DP as a second-line treatment after failing to 5-FU based chemotherapy. Results: 34 patients were enrolled in this study between January 1998 and August 2003. A total of 112 cycles (median 3 cycles) were administered. Responses were evaluable in 30 patients. The objective response rate was 16.7% (95% CI: 3.5~30.3), with a stable disease in 56.7% (95% CI: 40.0~74.4) and a progressive disease in 26.7% (95% CI: 10.9~42.5) of patients, with a median follow up duration of 20 months for all the patients, The median duration of response, time to progression and overall survival were 2.1 months (95% CI: 0.4~3.9), 4.2 months (95% CI: 2.3~6.1) and 6.8 months (95% CI: 1.3~12.3), respectively, with a 1-year survival rate of 32%. The toxicity was evaluated in 30 patients, with neutropenia being most common. Renal impairment was seen in two patients with grade 3 creatinine elevation and liver enzyme elevation in four with grades 3 and 4. Conclusion: Although DP was an active combination regimen, with a tumor control rate of about 73% and with moderate tolerance, adjustment of the administration schedule, with further evaluation of other combination chemotherapies of docetaxel with new agents, other than cisplatin, seem warranted.(Cancer Res Treat. 2004;36:367-371)

Malignant mesothelioma is the most common primary malignant tumor involving pleura, but its diagnosis is difficult to determine by pathology in addition to the fact that it is rare. We present an unusual case of malignant mesothelioma, which initially presented as large neck mass contrary to the more common presentation of a rind like growth along the pleura demonstrated on imaging and by pathologic findings.

In this paper, the long-term stability of the discharge characteristics in a plasma display panel is investigated with the small addition of nitrogen to the conventional Ne-Xe gas mixture. It is found that the characteristics of temporal variation in discharge voltages and full black brightness are enhanced with nitrogen gas addition, which could result in the reduction of mis-writing probability and the enhancement of image quality. In the study of the temporal variation of discharge voltages via a Vt close curve, it is observed that nitrogen addition suppresses the changes in discharge voltages. Regarding discharge voltage variation, the change in elements on the surface of the phosphor layer and the temporal modification of the protecting layer are investigated with overfrequency discharge aging using secondary-ion mass spectrometry and a scanning electron microscope, respectively. A small change in elements on the surface of the phosphor layer is observed in the panel, with nitrogen being added to the gas mixture. The reduced ion energy with the addition of nitrogen gas is suggested as a potential reason to induce the different variation of MgO transfer characteristics and discharge voltage.

Large single crystals of zeolite, |Na75|[Si117Al75O384]-FAU (Na-Y, Si/Al = 1.56), were synthesized from gels with composition of 3.58SiO2 : 2.08NaAlO2 : 7.59NaOH : 455H2O : 5.06TEA : 2.23TCl. One of these, a colorless single-crystal was ion exchanged by allowing aqueous 0.02 M CsOH to flow past the crystal at 293 K for 3 days, followed by dehydration at 673 K and 1 × 10-6 Torr for 2 days. The crystal structure of fully dehydrated partially Cs+-exchanged zeolite Y, |Cs45Na30|[Si117Al75O384]-FAU per unit cell (a = 24.9080(10) Å) was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction technique in the cubic space group Fd 3 m at 294(1) K. The structure was refined using all intensities to the final error indices (using only the 877 reflections with Fo > 4σ(Fo)) R1 = 0.0966 (Based on F) and R2 = 0.2641 (Based on F2). About forty-five Cs+ ions per unit cell are found at six different crystallographic sites. The 2 Cs+ ions occupied at site I, at the centers of double 6-ring (D6Rs, Cs-O = 2.774(10) Å and O-Cs-O = 88.9(3) and 91.1(3)o). Two Cs+ ions are found at site I’ in the sodalite cavity; the Cs+ ions were recessed 2.05 Å into the sodalite cavity from their 3-oxygen plane (Cs-O = 3.05(3) Å and O-Cs-O = 77.4(13)o). Site-II’ positions (opposite single 6-rings in the sodalite cage) are occupied by 7 Cs+ ions, each of which extends 2.04 Å into the sodalite cage from its 3-oxygen plane (Cs-O = 3.067(11) Å and O-Cs-O = 80.1(3)o). The 26 Cs+ ions are nearly three-quarters filled at site II in the supercage, being recessed 2.34 Å into the supercage (Cs-O = 3.273(8) Å and O-Cs-O = 74.3(3)o). The 4 Cs+ ions are found at site III deep in the supercage (Cs-O = 3.321(19) and 3.08(3) Å), and 4 Cs+ ions at another site III’ (Cs-O = 2.87(4) and 3.38(4) Å). About 30 Na+ ions per unit cell are found at one crystallographic site; The Na+ ions are located at site I’ in the sodalite cavity opposite double 6-rings (Na-O =2.578(11) Å and O-Na-O = 97.8(4)o).
