        In Vitro Antiviral Activity of Ribavirin Against Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome Virus Myung Jin LEE1, Kye-Hyung KIM1, Jongyoun YI2, SuJin CHOI1, Chung-Jong KIM1, Nak- Hyun KIM1, Kyoung-Ho SONG1, Pyoeng Gyun CHOI1, Ji-Hwan BANG1, Wan Beom PARK1, Eu Suk KIM1, Sang-Won PARK1, Hong Bin KIM1, Nam Joong KIM1, Myoung- Don OH1 Seoul National University College of Medicine, Korea1, Pusan National University School of Medicine, Korea2 Background: Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is an emerging infectious disease caused by a novel Bunyavirus, severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV). No effective antiviral therapy is proven yet, but clinical use of ribavirin (RBV) has been tried. We investigated the antiviral effect of RBV against SFTSV in vitro. Methods: To test for cytotoxicity of RBV, Vero cells were treated with different concentrations of RBV (3.90 to 500 μg/mL, two-fold dilution) and analyzed by cell viability MTS assay 48h post-infection. To determine antiviral activity of RBV against SFTSV, Vero cells were infected with SFTSV strain Gangwon/Korea/2012 at 100 TCID50 (50% tissue culture infective dose) per well in a 96-well plate, and RBV was added at the concentrations showing no or minimal cytotoxicity. Viral RNAs were extracted from the culture supernatants and quantifi ed using one-step real-time reverse transcription- PCR to amplify the partial large segment of SFTSV. Statistical analysis was done by one-way ANOVA with Tukey`s post hoc test. Results: Cytotoxicity due to RBV was not observed at RBV concentration =31.3 μg/ mL. Viral RNAs at 24h post-RBV treatment were reduced with increasing RBV concentrations (1-32 μg/mL), compared with those of mock-treated cells (P <0.01, Figure). Half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of RBV was 3.69 μg/mL at 24h post-RBV treatment. Conclusions: Our study shows that RBV has antiviral effect against SFTSV in a dose-dependent manner. Further studies are required to evaluate the effi cacy of RBV in SFTS.

        Methods and systems to remove static electricity are requested necessarily because the static electricity causes a flammable gas explosion, a fire, reduction of production rate in manufacturing semiconductor device and so on. This paper deals with the new structure of electrode to protect dusts attached to the needle electrode previously for controlling the quantities of generated ions and solving the problem of dust attaching to needle electrode. And the discharge system with third electrode was proposed to control the hight and electric field in end of needle electrode. It was possible to control the quantities of generated ion by controlling electric field in needle electrode. This showed the possibilities to solve the nonequilibrium of generated ions when using the ac power source.

      • 요추 추간판 탈출증의 수술 요법과 효소 요법과의 비교 연구

        A comparative study was presented on three different therapeutic methods for herniated lumbar discs, i.e., standard discectomy, microsurgical discectomy and chemonucleolysis. For seven year period from 1980 to 1987. 3000 patients with herniated lumbar disc were selected for comparison. Each thousand patients received one of the above three methods. Not only the overall success rate but also various clinical characteristics were compared and analysed with chi-square tests. Microsurgical discectomy ccording to Chung's modified method brought the best results in not only success rate but also in failure and complication rates. The efficacy of chemonucleolysis was relatively low in this comparision, but in selected cases, it was as effctive as microspurgical discectomy. Along with its strong advantages in hospital stay, time to return to work and operating time, chemonucleolysis was the least invasive one. Thus chemonucleolysis could be perfomed with better expected success rate and the following situations. 1) The age of patient was less than 50, 2) radiating pain was a dominant symptom, 3) the symptom lasted shorter than 1 year, 4) lesions were not in L5-S1 level, 5) the patient had more than 3 abnormal findings in 5 physical and neurological signs, i.e., motor weakness, detmatomal sensory loss, reflex change, positive straight leg raising test and crossed straight leg raising test, and 6) no severe compression in myelogams. In the other two situations, chemonucleolysis could be indicated as an initial treatment. There are 7) patients of over 70-year-old and 8) lesions in more than 3 levels. No serious complications were not found in chemonucleolysis. Meanwhile in the following cases, microsugical discectomy should be considered as the first therapeutic method. 1) patient in the 6th and 7th decades, 2) low back pain as a dominant symptom, 3) duration of symptoms more than 1 year, 4) lesions in L5-S1, 5) only 2 abnormal findings in 5 signs decribed above, and 6) severe compression in myelograms. Standard discectomy did not show any significant advantages over the two methods in this comparative analysis. Any single therapeutic method could not be the best way in the treatment of patients with the herniated lumbar disc. It is desirable to choose the most suitable method for each patient according to not only the success rate of an individual method but also his clinical characteristics, radiological features, surgeon's experience and preference, and the choice of the patient himself.

        Flowable 및 microfill 복합레진으로 충전된 제 5급와동에서 load cycling 전,후의 미세변연누출 비교

        Low-viscosity composite resins may produce better sealed margins than stiffer compositions (KempScholte and Davidson, 1988; Crim, 1989). Flowable composites have been recommended for use in Class V cavities but it is also controversial because of its high rates of shrinkage. On the other hand, in the study comparing elastic moduli and leakage, the microfil had the least leakage (Rundle et al. 1997). Furthermore, in the 1996 survey of the Reality Editorial Team, microfills were the clear choice for abfraction lesions. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the microleakage of 6 composite resins (2 hybrids, 2 microfills, and 2 flowable composites) with and without load cycling. Notch-shaped Class V cavities were prepared on buccal surface of 180 extracted human upper premolars on cementum margin. The teeth were randomly divided into non-load cycling group (group 1) and load cycling group(group 2) of 90 teeth each. The experimental teeth of each group were randomly divided into 6 subgroups of 15 samples. All preparations were etched, and Single bond was applied. Preparations were restored with the following materials (n=15) : hybrid composite resin [Z250(3M Dental Products Inc. St.Paul, USA), Denfil(Vericom, Ahnyang, Korea)], microfil [Heliomolar RO(Vivadent, Schaan, Liechtenstein), Micronew(Bisco Inc. Schaumburg, IL, USA)], and flowable composite[AeliteFlo(Bisco Inc. Schaumburg, IL, USA), Revolution(Kerr Corp. Orange, CA, USA)]. Teeth of group 2 were subjected to occlusal load (100N for 50,000 cycles) using chewing simulator(MTS 858 Mini Bionix Ⅱ system, MTS Systems Corp., Minn, USA). All samples were coated with nail polish 1mm short of the restoration, placed in 2% methylene blue for 24 hours, and sectioned with a diamond wheel. Enamel and dentin/cementum margins were analyzed for microleakage on a sclale of 0 (no leakage) to 3 (3/3 of wall). Results were statistically analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis One way analysis, Mann-Whitney U-test, and Student-Newmann-Keuls method. (p=0.05) Results: 1. There was significantly less microleage in enamel margins than dentinal margins of all groups. (p<0.05) 2. There was no significant difference between six composite resin in enamel margin of group 1. 3. In dentin margin of group 1, flowable composite had more microleakage than others but not of significant differences. 4. There was no significant difference between six composite resin in enamel margin of group 2. 5. In dentin margin of group 2, the microleakage were R>A=H=M>D>Z. But there was no significant differences. 6. In enamel margins, load cycling did not affect the marginal microleakage in significant degree. 7. In dentin margins, load cycling did affect the marginal microleakage only in Revolution. (p<0.05)

        The definition of traditional 2-DS power factor current and co-ordinate did not represent clearly relation to power facter in circuit with nonlinear thyristor loads. A new simulator for performance evaluation of Active Power Filter (APF) by 3-D space current co-ordinate applicale to general power system have not been developed, because reserchers were merely interested in improvement of source current waveforms by using APF or its simulator. Moreover, There was not APF simulator with power analysis capability which was developed for the better. Current was decomposed by active, reactive, distortion, by digital correlation signal proccessing techique based on Nowomiejski theory. Therefore, A new 3-D space current co-ordinate composited by 3 current components was defined in this paper. A new 3-D space current co-ordinate was shown state and location of current vector by trajectories with 3-D co-ordinate rotation. It evidently has excellent performance not only performsance evaluation method of APF but alse evaluation method of general power system, not conventional domain but other domain. By proposed 3-D soace co-ordinate, space power factor is derived, the true state of physical meaning is proved, new distortion factor was proposed, this study was proved true state of appropriation throughout development of simulator for APF performance evaluation with power analysis capability.

        The authors carried out a model experiment of continuous hairtail hand line on the rooftop in order to obtain the fundamental data on elimination of labor with hairtail hand line in the coast of Jeju The results are as follow : 1. The continuous main line was rotated smoothly by driving roller. 2. The branch lines and hooks on a main line which was rotated by rotary machine were entangled slightly. 3. The branch lines attached to rubbered model of hairtails to hooks were rotated continuously by the rotary machine.

      • 전단보강근량에 따른 초고강도 콘크리트를 사용한 고층형 내력벽의 이력거동

        Three one fourth scale models using ultra high-strength concrete(f' =704 kg/㎠) are tested under the combined action of a constant axial and a horizontal load cyclically to failure. Such specimens are considered to represent the critical 3-story of low part in 60-story tall building of a structural wall system in area of high seismicity. The amount of vertical reinforcement and the level of applied axial stress are identical for the three wall tested. The cross-section of all walls is barbell shape. The aspect ratio(h /l ) of test specimen is 1.8. The primary objectives of this paper are to investigate the influence of the amount of horizontal reinforcement on the lateral resistance, failure mechanism, ductility and energy-dissipation capability of walls with ultra high-strength concrete. In contrast to what is widely believed, the horizontal web reinforcement does not appear to have a significant effect on shear capacity. Certainly, since the reduction of the web horizontal reinforcement to almost half the value specified by building codes doesn't affect the failure load, this effect in not accounted for by the truss analogy concept. The results obtained have helped to identify the causes of wall failure and have demonstrated that the concepts underlying current ACI Building Code provisions for the design of walls conflict with the observed structural behavior. It has been found that shear resistance is associated with triaxial compressive stress conditions that develop in the compressive zone of the section at the base of the wall.

        This is to investigate the posibility of home manufacturing of heavy chemical industry machines, such as rotary kiln, crusher, blower, cooler, electrostatic precipitator and weighing feeder of cement plant. It is concluded that even though we can not make all of them (some of them are made now and some others are going to be made in the near future, some of them are made whole and some others are made partially), we can build or export the cement plant by importing the important machines which we can not make now and by substituting them with ours gradually.
