Evaluating the risk of collision quantitatively plays a key role in developing the expert system of navigation and collision avoidance. This study analysed thoroughly how to determine the thresholds as described in the new evaluation of collision risk using sech function, and developed the appropriate equation as applicable.

In manufacturing the large size casting products, solid strength of casting products plays the most important role and the next is to find out defect of casting products. And so, I manufactured a 3.2 ton weight product, using the scrap iron(as a raw material) and the coal (as a fuel) in 3 ton/hr capacity cupola. The size of section has a great influence upon the mechanics property, and the analysis of the dynamic field is also important on casting work. And next, there are plenty of defecting elements of casting. so I decided to study more in next change about that point.

In designing the machine elements, the stress distribution of the material is so important that in this study it was examined by the photeelastic experiment using the double refraction properties. The width of the plate was 25㎜ and the diameter of the hole was fixed 5㎜ and the each center of the hole was eccentricified 0㎜, 2v, 4㎜, and 6㎜. In this condition, the plate with the two eccentric holes that the each distance of the holes were changed 5㎜, 8㎜ and 12㎜ was tensiled. The stress distribution near the holes of the free boundary was as follows : (1) The stress concentration factors were constant regardless of the distance of the centers of the holes. (2) The stress concentration factors were increased with the eccentric rate. (3) The maximum poimt of the stress concentration was moved toward opposite direction of the other holes. (4) Zero point was increased from the center line of the holes.
A Study on the Errors in the Free-Gyro Positioning and Directional System
정태권 한국항해항만학회 2013 한국항해항만학회지 Vol.37 No.4
This paper is to develop the position error equations including the attitude errors, the errors of nadir and ship’s heading, and the errors of ship’s position in the free-gyro positioning and directional system. In doing so, the determination of ship’s position by two free gyro vectors was discussed and the algorithmic design of the free-gyro positioning and directional system was introduced briefly. Next, the errors of transformation matrices of the gyro and body frames, i.e. attitude errors, were examined and the attitude equations were also derived. The perturbations of the errors of the nadir angle including ship’s heading were investigated in each stage from the sensor of rate of motion of the spin axis to the nadir angle obtained. Finally, the perturbation error equations of ship’s position used the nadir angles were derived in the form of a linear error model and the concept of FDOP was also suggested by using covariance of position error.

A Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System (hereafter 'BNWAS') is to monitor and detect if an officer of watch(hereafter ‘OOW’) keeps a sharp lookout on the bridge. The careless lookout of an OOW could lead to marine accidents. For this reason on June 5th, 2009, IMO decided that a ship is equipped with a BNWAS. However, an existing BNWAS gives the OOW a lot of inconvenience and stress in its operation. It requires that the OOW should press reset buttons to confirm their alert watch on the bridge at every three to twelve minute. Many OOWs have complained that at some circumstances they cannot focus on their bridge activities including watch-keeping due to a lots of resetting inputs of BNWAS. Accordingly, IMO has allowed the use of a motion sensor as a resetting device. The motion sensor detects the movements of human body on the bridge and subsequently sends reset signals directly to BNWAS automatically. As a result, OOWs can work uninterrupted. However, some of classification societies and flag authorities have a slightly different stance on the use of motion sensor as a resetting method for BNWAS. The reason is that the motion sensor may trigger false reset signals caused by the motion of objects on the bridge, especially a slight movement such as toss and turn of human body which can extend the period of careless watch. As a basic study to minimize the false reset signals, this paper proposes a simple configuration of BNWAS, which consists of only three motion sensors associated with ‘AND’ and ‘OR’ logic gates. Additionally, several considerations are also proposed for the implementation of motion sensors. This study found that the proposed configuration which consists of three motion sensors is better than an existing one by reducing false reset signals caused by a slight movement of human body in one’s sleep. The proposed configuration in this paper filters false reset signals and is simple to be implemented on existing vessels. In addition, it can be easily installed just by a basic electrical knowledge.
