Background : The cun measurement System, an essential and convenient method in locating acupoints, has been widely used in the practice of acupuncture. However, traditional cun measurement has been criticized for its lack of reliability. Objectives : The purposes of this study are to determine if one cun measured by the directional methods have a consistency with that of proportional methods and to investigate which factors are related with these differences, especially in forearm. Methods : The distance between the elbow crease and the wrist crease of forearm was compared to a reference value of one cun obtained by the directional method. In this method, one cun is one third of the distance between index finger and Small finger of a subject, measured at proximal interphalangeal joint. In addition, to investigate the factors influencing the differences between these two methods, we measured the height and body weight and calculated body mass index (BMI). Finally we analyzed the factors correlated with these lengths by linear regression test. Results : The results showed that one cun obtained by the directional methods were significantly different from one cun by the proportional methods in forearm. It was demonstrated that the length acquired with the directional method was more correlated with body weight and body mass index, while the length obtained by the proportional method was more correlated with the height.
Initial Ag Thin-Film Growths on a Polycarbonate Substrate at Periodic Step Mode Deposition (PSMD)

Initial Ag metal thin-film growths on a polycarbonate substrate through the ion beam sputtering deposition method were observed to understand the nucleation growth mode of the nanoparticles on powder (NPP) process. Periodic step mode deposition (PSMD) was carried out by controlling a rotating screen mask above the substrate during the metal deposition, in which the time ratio of deposition and non-deposition was controlled by changing the exposure area of the screen mask. The metal was deposited at four different modes: continuous deposition (I), 0.8 sec/0.8 sec (exposure time/screened time (non-deposition time) to the evaporated atoms) (II), 0.4 sec/1.2 sec (III), and 0.2 sec/1.4 sec (IV). In an in-situ resistivity measurement, the growth at mode I was shown to be a Volmer-Weber type, with a sharp transition region of resistance appearing as a conventional thin-film growth, but the sharp transition of the voltage became gradually unclear, and the resistance decreased exponentially as a function of the exposure time at modes II, III, and IV. The sizes of the merging islands during the metal deposition increased, and the coalescence step progressed in the TEM study. The initial growth mechanism of the nuclei of PSMD with increasing screened time was changed from sharp transition with a percolation step to a gentle slope without showing a percolation step, and completely independent solidification appeared at mode IV compared with the nucleation mode of the conventional deposition method. The relationship between the growth mode of the nuclei and the NPP process is discussed herein based on the results of the in-situ conductivity measurement and optical absorbance, XRD, and TEM analyses.

keV ion beam irradiatin for surface modification and thin film growth have been discussed. keV ion beam irradiation in reactive gas environment has been developed for improving wettability of polymer, and for enhancing adhesion to metal film, and adventages of the method have been reviewed. An epitaxial Cu film on Si(100) substrate has been grown by ionized cluster beam and changes of crystallinity and surface roughness have been discussed. Stoichiometric $SnO_2$ films on Si(100) and glass have been grown by a hybrid ion beam Deposition(2 metal ion sources+1 gas ion source), and nonstoichiometric $SnO_2$ films are controlled by various deposition conditions in the HIB. Surface modification for polymer by kev ion irradiation have been developed. Wetting angle of water to PC has been changed from 68 degree to 49 degree with $Ar^+$ irradiation and to 8 degree with $Ar^+$ irradiation and the oxygen environment. Change of surface phenomena in a keV ion beam and characteristics of the grown films are suggested.
