Extramedullary Plasmacytoma of the Sinonasal Cavity 1예

Extramedullary plasmacytoma is rare tumor of plasma cell tumor, which involve soft tissue without any signs of systemic spread and occurs predominantly in the head and neck, especially the nasal cavity and the paranasal sinuses. Ten to twenty percent of extramedullary plasmacytoma have regional lymph metastasis at the time of diagnosis and approximately one third of patients with extramedullary plasmacytoma will subse-quently develop multiple myeloma during long-term follow-up. Primary treatment modality is moderate-dose radiation and surgery is rarely used. Extramedullary plasmacytoma has good prognosis, but requires long-term systemic evaluation and follow-up. We report a case of extramedullary plasmacytoma of the sinonasal cavity with a review of literature.
치주질환 치료후 미세 결정형 수산화 인회석 함유치약의 지각과민 억제효과에 관한 임상적 연구

The purpose of this study was to observe the control effect of hypersensitivity after periodontal treatment in the 19% microcrystalline hydroxyapatite containing toothpaste for the subject of 85 persons of both sexes, who complained hypersensitivity. At 2 weeks and 4 weeks after periodontal treatment, comparison of control effect was performed between the 19% microcrystalline hydroxyapatite containing toothpaste group and control group. The result were as follows, 1. The main causes of dentin hypersensitivity are the root exposure with gingival recession and cervical abrasion. 2. The occurance rate of hypersensitive tooth in the upper jaw was higher than that of the lower jaw, and more or less, the molar area showed more occlurance of hypersensitivity than the premolar and incisor area in both jaw. 3. Patients showed very sensitive response to the thermal stimulus, especially cold stimulus. 4. Exellent control effect of hypersensitivity in 19% microcrystalline hydroxyapatite containing toothpaste group showed 83.02% at 2weeks, 92.45% at 4weeks and these values were higher than the control group. In conclusion, we find that 19% microcrystalline hydroxyapatite containing toothpaste have the control effect of hypersensitivity and the proper toothbrushing method is the key in attaining more effectiveness of the toothpaste.

The surface states of gate dielectrics affect device performance severely in Pentacene OTFTs. We have fabricated organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) using pentacene as an active layer with chemically modified $SiO_2$ gate dielectrics. The effects of the surface treatment of $SiO_2$ on the electric characteristics of OTFTS were investigated. The surface of $SiO_2$ gate dielectric was treated by normal wet cleaning process, $O_2-plasma$ treatment, hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS), and octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS) treatment. After the surface treatments, the contact angles and surface free energies were measured in order to analyze the surface state changes. In the electrical measurements, typical I-V characteristics of TFTs were observed. The field effect mobility, $\mu$, was calculated to be $0.29\;cm^2V^{-1}s^{-1}$ for OTS treated sample while those for the HMDS, $O_2$ plasma treated, and wet-cleaned samples were 0.16, 0.1, and $0.04\;cm^2V^{-1}s^{-1}$, respectively.

The etiology of inverted papilloma(IP) remains unknown, but several studies have reported that Human Papillomavirus(HPV) may play a role in the pathogensis of sinonasal inverted papilloma(IP). And recent reports demonstrate the possible etiologic role of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in sinonasal IP. The aim of this study is to detect HPV and EBV in sinonasal IP, to examine the relationship between HPV subtype and sinonasal IP, to investigate the relation between HPV and EBV. We reviewed 30 cases of sinonasal IP(simple IP 19 cases, IP with dysplasia 8 cases, IP with squamous cell carcinoma 3 cases). Paraffin embedded archival tissue was used in this study. Detection of HPV, EBV were examined by in situ hybridization(ISH) using HPV type 6/11, 16/18, 31/33/35 DNA probe and EBER probe. The HPV was detected in 6(20%) out of 30 cases. The HPV 6/11 was dectected in 4 out of 19 cases of simple IP, HPV 16/18 in 1, HPV 31/33/35 in 1 out of 8 cases of IP with dysplasia respectively. The EBV was not detected in 30 cases. HPV may play a role in the pathogensis of sinonasal inverted papilloma. But EBV is not a etiopathologic factor to be considered in the development of sinonasal IP.

AZO thin films are grown on a p-Si(111) substrate by RF magnetron sputtering. The characteristics of various thicknesses and heat treatment conditions are investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Hall effect and room-temperature photoluminescence (PL) measurements. The substrate temperature and the RF power during growth are kept constant at 400 ℃ and 200 W, respectively. AZO films are grown with a preferred orientation along the c-axis. As the thickness and the heat treatment temperature increases, the length of the c-axis decreases as Al<sup>3+</sup> ions of relatively small ion radius are substituted for Zn<sup>2+</sup> ions. At room temperature, the PL spectrum is separated into an NBE emission peak around 3.2 eV and a violet regions peak around 2.95 eV with increasing thickness, and the PL emission peak of 300 nm is red-shifted with increasing annealing temperature. In the XPS measurement, the peak intensity of Al<sub>2p</sub> and O<sub>ll</sub> increases with increasing annealing temperature. The AZO thin film of 100 nm thickness shows values of 6.5 × 10<sup>19</sup> cm<sup>-3</sup> of carrier concentration, 8.4 cm<sup>-2</sup>/V·s of mobility and 1.2 × 10<sup>-2</sup> Ω·cm electrical resistivity. As the thickness of the thin film increases, the carrier concentration and the mobility increase, resulting in the decrease of resistivity. With the carrier concentration, mobility decreases when the heat treatment temperature increases more than 500 ℃.

Background: Inverted papilloma(IP) of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses is a benign neoplastic condition that can be associated with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Several studies have indicated an etiologic role for viruses in the development of inverted papilloma. And it is necessary to find out the significance of a biologic markers such as p53, c-erbB-2 to predict the malignant potential. The purposes of this study are to detect HPV in inverted papilloma of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinus, to examine role of HPV as an etiological agent, to examine the relationship between HPV subtype and malignant transformation of inverted papilloma, and to investigate the relation between expression rate of p53, c-erbB-2 and HPV in recurrent or malignant transformation cases. Material and Methods: Thirty two cases of inverted papilloma(IP) in the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses were reviewed and classified into 3 groups; simple IP, IP with dysplasia group, IP with squamous cell carcinoma group. Paraffin embedded achival tissue was used in this study. The HPV was detected by in situ hybridzation (ISH) using HPV type 6/11, 16/18, 31/33/35 DNA probes. Expression of p53 and c-erbB-2 was examined by immunohistochemical staining. Results: 1) The HPV was detected in 6(19%) out of 32 cases. 2) The HPV 6/11 was dectected in 4 out of 21 cases of simple IP, HPV 16/18 in 1, HPV 31/33/35 in lout of 8 cases of IP with dysplasia respectively. 3) The positive expression of p53 was 13 cases out of 32 cases; 2 out of 21 cases of simple IP, all of 8 cases of IP with dysplasia and 3 cases of IP with squamous cell carcinoma 4) The positive expression of c-erbB-2 was in 24 out of 32 cases; 16 out of 21 cases of simple IP, 6 out of 8 cases of IP with dysplasia, 2 out of 3 cases of IP with squamous cell ca. 5) The recurrence of IP occurred in lout of 6 cases of positive for HPV, in 4 out of 26 cases negative for HPV. 6) The recurrence of IP occurred only in positive cases for p53. 7) The recurrence of IP occurred in 4(17%) out of 24 cases positive for c-erbB-2, in 1(13%) out of 8 cases negative for c-erbB-2. Conclusion: The p53 expression was associated with Inverted papillomas exhibiting evidence of malignant transformation. Also, there was a correlation between the p53 expression and recurrence.
