Increased use of rhinoceros beetles (Allomyrina dichotoma ) for food and medicine, and their elevated value as pets has led to an increase in the number of their breeding farms. Mass breeding of the insects in these farms leads to entomological diseases. In this study, we investigate cannibalism resulting from overcrowded breeding of A. dichotoma larvae, as well as secondary fungal infections in epidermal wounds in the surviving larvae. Some of the fungi detected in the present study showed entomopathogenicity, and the larvae showed different times of death. In particular, larvae infected with Clonostachys sp., an endophytic plant fungus, grew for a long time after infection, but died without pupating.
Microsporidia Identification of Characterization and DNA sequences in Bumble bees from Korea

The purpose of this stduy was to identify accurately and promptly the Microsporidia disease of bumble bees from Gangwon in Korea. Bumble bees are crucial pollinators of various crops and microsporidia are the critical infections of these hosts. Also, the various species of bumble bees have been used: Bombus terrestris, B. lucorum, B. occidentalis, B. ignites and B. impatiens etc. The symptoms of bumble bees infected microsporidia: their abdomens become distended, paralyzed and become sluggish and die early. We have identified the morphologies of the microsporidium by electron microscopy and found that the morphology of the microsporidium is rounded spore morph, with fairly small spores as described before in many other articles. For the specific and sensitive diagnosis of Nosema in bumble bees, we have developed the improved method of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) conditions for expeditious diagnosis. Two pairs of primers were tested on N. bombi and the related microsporidia; Nosema apis and Nosema sp., both of which infect bumble bees and honey bees and further we have verified and analyzed DNA sequence data of N. bombi in bumble bees by using the BLAST server at the National Center for Biotechnology Information.
The Effect of Texting Using a Smart Phone While Driving on Drivers

This study was aimed to find out whether there was some difference comparing lane separation distance, brake reaction speed between a smart phone and a button type of general phone while driving in a driving environment using a driving simulator. The subjects were composed of 10 males in their twenties, the road situation of three-lane road was copied as a driving environment, and the subjects were instructed to keep 50m lane distance from the car ahead, driving with a constant speed of 70km/h. In this driving condition, the subjects were instructed to send the contents of given text message with a smart phone and a general phone respectively. As a result of test, in brake reaction rate, it increased with a significant difference(p>0.05) when sending a text message with a smart phone compared with when not sending a text message. The above results suggest that sending a text message can damage the driving performance capacity and especially when sending a text message with a smart phone based on a touch screen, as the visual distraction increased compared with a general phone and the brake reaction rate increased, it is considered that riskiness is high.
A Cooperative Emergency Response System based on the Disaster Response Activity Plan

효과적인 재난대응을 위해서는 모든 부처와 기관이 협력적 재난대응체계를 구축해야 한다. 그러나우리나라의 재난대응체계는 재난의 유형별로 책임기관이 지정되어 있는 조직 중심형 분산관리방식을 채택하고 있다. 이러한 한계점을 개선하고 보다 유기적인 재난대응체계로 개선해 나가기 위해서는 기능 중심형 협력적 재난대응체계로의 개선이 필요하다. 이를 위해 논의하고 보완해야 할 것이재난대응활동계획이다. 재난대응활동계획은 주요한 재난대응활동들을 미리 규정하고 재난관리책임기관에게 명확한 임무와 역할을 부여함으로써, 재난 발생 시 부처 간 업무 분배 및 책임소재 등의갈등을 최소화하여 신속한 대응이 이루어지도록 대비⋅대응하는 것이다. 이를 통해 기능 중심의재난대응역량을 강화하고 조직 간 편 가르기 문화와 책임 회피 등의 부정적인 면을 개선하는데 기여할 것으로 보인다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 조직중심의 재난대응체계를 기능중심의 협력적 재난대응체계로 전환하기 위한 정책대안으로 13개 재난대응활동계획의 활용방안과 그 역할을 제시하고자한다. 이를 위해 우리나라와 미국의 재난대응체계를 조직구성 및 운영체계를 중심으로 비교⋅분석하였다. It is critical to secure a cooperative response system among the departments and agencies in governments for effective disaster response. However, the disaster response system in Korea is departmentalized by disaster types and relevant organizations, and thus needs to be renovated as a function-based response system. We argue that the disaster response activity plan should be the best alternative for securing the cooperative system as it defines the roles and responsibilities for all related organizations and agencies. This plan is expected to facilitate and promote the capability and capacity for cooperative disaster response and recommended as a policy alternative for function-based cooperative disaster response system, based on a comparative analysis of disaster response systems between Korea and the US.

For years, Korea, China and Japan have been continuously increasing intra-trade. In addition, by concluding FTA (Free Trade Agreement) among Korea, Japan and China, the trade capacity will be increased. In this way, the increasing trade capacity will induce to change north-east Asian economy. This paper researches which method is more economical and efficient in the aspect of the transportation time and distance, after comparing the existing marine transportation network with new intermodal transportation network considering TKR.

In this paper, an N-MCT with a low threshold voltage of off-FET has been investigated by simulation and experiment. We have demonstrated the MCT with self-aligned spacer formation and recess process, which results in uniform off-FET channel length. And boron is implanted to adjust the threshold voltage of off-FETs. The threshold voltage of non-doped and proposed MCT was -1.2 V and 0.6 V, respectively. The forward blocking voltage of both MCTs was similar to 1800 V and the turn-on voltage of MCTs was 0.2 V and 0.75 V, respectively. The non-doped and proposed MCTs exhibit the same di/dt around 35.7 kA/㎲ and peak current of 2.69 kA. That is pointed out that this proposed MCT structure is promising because the current driving capability is improved without degradation of on-state characteristics.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Consumption of certain protective foods may help inhibit Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) associated gastric pathologies. However, studies conducted to assess the efficacy of protective foods in H. pylori-infected subjects are either limited or inconsistent. This study evaluated the association of individual or a combination of protective foods on the incidence of gastric cancer (GC) in H. pylori-positive subjects through a case-control study. MATERIALS/METHODS: Subjects aged 20–79 years were selected from 2 hospitals between December 2002 and September 2006. In total, 134 patients and 212 controls tested positive for H. pylori infection. Among these, we included 82 pairs of cases and controls matched by sex, age (± 5 years), enrollment period (± 1 years), and hospital. RESULTS: A higher intake of soy products was associated with a significantly lower risk of GC than a lower intake of soy products (odds ratio [OR] = 0.37, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.14–0.96). Additionally, a higher fruit intake resulted in a significantly lower risk of GC than a lower fruit intake (OR = 0.35, 95% CI = 0.13–0.94). A combination of food groups was evaluated, and a lower risk of GC was observed with a high intake of both soy products and fruits (OR = 0.20, 95% CI = 0.06–0.67), high intake of soy and dairy products (OR = 0.28, 95% CI = 0.10–0.78) and high intake of fruits and dairy products (OR = 0.28, 95% CI = 0.09–0.83). CONCLUSIONS: A high intake of soy products or fruits was associated with a lower risk of GC. A combination of soy products or fruits with dairy products was associated with a lower risk of GC. A balanced intake of soy products, fruits, and dairy products may help reduce GC risk.
