Purpose:Based on a previous gene expression study in a mouse model of asthma, we selected 60 candidate genes and investigated their possible roles in human asthma. Methods: In these candidate genes, 90 SNPs were genotyped using MassARRAY technology from 311 asthmatic children and 360 healthy controls of the Hungarian (Caucasian) population. Moreover, gene expression levels were measured by RT PCR in the induced sputum of 13 asthmatics and 10 control individuals. t-tests, chi-square tests, and logistic regression were carried out in order to assess associations of SNP frequency and expression level with asthma. Permutation tests were performed to account for multiple hypothesis testing. Results: The frequency of 4 SNPs in 2 genes differed significantly between asthmatic and control subjects: SNPs rs2240572, rs2240571, rs3735222 in gene SCIN, and rs32588 in gene PPARGC1B. Carriers of the minor alleles had reduced risk of asthma with an odds ratio of 0.64 (0.51-0.80; P=7×10-5) in SCIN and 0.56 (0.42-0.76; P=1.2×10-4) in PPARGC1B. The expression levels of SCIN, PPARGC1B and ITLN1 genes were significantly lower in the sputum of asthmatics. Conclusions: Three potentially novel asthma-associated genes were identified based on mouse experiments and human studies.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In this paper, we demonstrate highly conductive and stretchable fiber interconnections for electronic textiles (e-textiles) using dry-spun carbon nanotube (CNT) fibers modified with ionic liquid (IL)/poly (vinylidene fluoride-<I>co</I>-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) copolymer composite. By adopting direct infiltration of CNT fibers with a mixture of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide and PVDF-HFP, mechanical properties such as stretchability, maximum load and strain were significantly improved while minimizing the reduction in electrical conductivity. Such IL/PVDF modified CNT fibers (hybrid CNT fibers) exhibited electrical conductivity up to ∼1300 S/cm, with maximum load and strain values of 0.84 N and 35.7%, respectively. Using hybrid-CNT fibers, we demonstrated highly stretchable and electrically stable fiber interconnections for e-textiles by optimizing the interconnection pattern design. Particularly, by adopting a serpentine pattern, stretchability up to ∼70% and resistance variation of ∼2.7% at a tensile strain of 40% were achieved.</P>

Purpose: This study aims to test if the age of pregnant women affects the perception, experience, and attitude towards complementary alternative therapy (CAT), by investigating the perception, experience, and attitude of pregnant women under the age of 35, and above 35 (Advanced Maternal Age). The study will 1) find the general characteristics of pregnant women under and over the age of 35 2) compare the perception, behavior, and experience of pregnant women under and over the age of 35, and 3) find the comparison of the perception, behavior, and experience according to the general characteristics of pregnant women under and over the age of 35. Method: The subjects of this study are composed of 44 women under the age of 35 and 44 women above the age of 35, totaling 88 pregnant women visiting midwiferies, obstetrics and gynecology, and baby fairs in Seoul and Gyeong-Gi area. Data for this study was collected from November 28, 2015 to January 6, 2016 for 40 days. The collected data analyzed mean, standard deviation, t test, ANOVA, and chi-square by using SPSS 23.0. Result Results show that there is a significant difference in the perception, attitude, and experience of the two-sample groups in the use of CAT. The question of “what is most necessary when applying CAT in a hospital clinical environment” for the perception criteria came out with the results of t=9.980, p<.05. For the attitude, results showed that the answers of pregnant women under the age of 35 displayed a more positive attitude towards CAT. (t=2.421, p<.05) Lastly, in the experience section, pregnant women under the age of 35 showed more CAT use than the other sample group. Conclusion Results have shown that there is a difference in the perception, behavior, and experience between the two sample groups. Therefore further research on the efficacy and the adverse effects of CAT needs to be done.
Magneto-Photoluminescence and Spin Dynamics of Self-Assembled CdSe Quantum Dots in Zn1-xMnxSe

We have studied photoluminescence spectra of CdSe self-assembled quantum dots (QD's) embedded in Zn$_{1-x}$Mn$_x$Se ($x$ = 0.05 and 0.15) with and without an external magnetic field. Under a magnetic field, the photoluminescence from CdSe QD's was circularly polarized under light excitation above the bandgap energy of ZnMnSe, indicating carrier spin polarization in CdSe QD's. The time-resolved photoluminescence study showed that spin-flip occured very rapidly as photocarriers transfered from the ZnMnSe to the CdSe QD's to reach statistical equilibrium of the spin states in the CdSe QD's. The Zeeman splitting in the CdSe QD's was several meV, still larger than the thermal energy at 5 K. These results suggest that the spin-polarization in CdSe QD's is mainly due to the Zeeman splitting of carriers in the CdSe quantum dots.

Valence band photoemission spectroscopy (PES) measurements have been performed for Co_xPd_(100-x) alloy films using synchrotron radiation (x=0, 25, 40, 65). Then the partial spectral weight distributions (PSW’s) of Co 3d and Pd 4d electrons have been determined. The Co 3d PSW’s exhibit some structures which are quite different from those of the Co film for x<25 %, whereas they become very similar to those of the Co film for x>40 %. For x<25 %, the peak near the Fermi level (E_F) and a shoulder around 2 eV binding energy in the Co 3d PSW reflect large hybridization between Pd 4d and Co 3d electrons, suggesting that the hybridization might play an inportant role in determining perpendicualr magnetic anisotropy. The Pd 4d PSW’s in Co-Pd alloy films are found to have larger FWHM’s (full widths at half maximum), larger binding energies of the main peaks, and larger spectral intensities at E_F than the PES spectrum of the Pd film. The FWHM of the Pd 4d PSW increases with decreasing Pd concentration, which are considered to reflect the disordering effect in the alloy formation or the change in the Pd 4d electronic structure due to hybridization between Co 3d and Pd 4d electrons.

The rapid digital transformation and the ever-changing needs of consumers have provided both academia and practice a stimulating setting and chance for grasping evolving opportunities and reinventing the traditional marketing approaches. Agility is one emergent approach to manage challenges like increasing uncertainty or high volatility. Due to its relative novelty, the extant academic literature on marketing agility is narrow, and although the operationalization of the construct is slowly expanding, there is yet the need for further refinement of the definition, the construct, terminology, and its dimensions. Similarly, in practitioner circles there is a growing “buzz” about implementing agile practices (e.g., continuous feedback-learning cycles, collaboration, flexibility, and speed) in the field of marketing to manage changing market environments. What exactly makes an organization, a department, or a team agile is, however, still blurred.
