Objective: Low back pain is frequently treated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), but little is known about intervertebral disc metabolism of the prostaglandins that are diminished by these drugs. Hence, this study aimed at delineating prostaglandin actions in cytokine activated disc cells by comparing the response of nucleus pulposus (NP) cells to the pro-inflammatory cytokine interleukin (IL)-1β with and without cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) inhibition. Methods: NP cells cultured in alginate beads were activated with IL-1β±the COX-2 inhibitor Sc-58125. Media harvested from cultured cells were analyzed for prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), prostaglandin F2 alpha (PGF2α), IL-6, and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-3 by enzymelinked immunosorbent assay and nitric oxide by Griess Reaction. Gene expression along with proteoglycan, collagen, and total protein synthesis were also measured. Results: IL-1β increased culture media PGE2 and PGF2α, but decreased proteoglycan and collagen syntheses as well as mRNA expression of the matrix genes aggrecan, versican, collagen I, and collagen II. COX-2 inhibition partially rescued proteoglycan and collagen syntheses and collagen I mRNA, but decreased collagen II mRNA IL-1β activated NP cells. COX-2 inhibition initially enhanced and subsequently reduced IL-1β induced inducible nitric oxide synthase, without altering medium nitrite. IL-1β induction of MMP-3 mRNA was increased by COX-2 inhibition at 24 and 48 hours. Conclusion: COX-2 inhibition alters the response of NP cells to IL-1β, suggesting IL-1β action on disc cells is mediated at least in part through COX-2 and its prostaglandins. COX-2 inhibition produces minimal effects on several key catabolic mediators, with the exception of MMP-3. Blocking COX-2 might be beneficial for maintaining disc matrix since it provides an overall rescue of IL-1 induced loss of matrix protein synthesis.
잉글랜드 그린벨트 정책 담론과 쟁점 분석 - 주택 개발과 여가 기회를 중심으로 -

England’s green belt policy as it delivered its framework to designating the development restriction zones(DRZ) in Korea is the key to address issues which try to change green belt boundary or/and housing development. Therefore it should necessarily be reviewed on the understanding of how England has been formulating a national policy to deal with the issues focusing on opportunities for housing development and recreation. This study explored the discourse and framework of England’s green belt policy as well as driver changes of housing development and recreation. Results show several characteristics of England’s green belt policy which are civil society consensus on conservation and management, limited small-scale housing development through management of release rates, a systematic procedure for application and approval, open-recreation space expansion and utilisation under the premise of conservation of natural green areas, and management structure by the involvement of NGO organisations. Therefore, five suggestions can be delivered to developing Korea’s DRZ frameworks: first, preceding social consensus on the preservation value of development-restricted zones, second, addressing housing shortages in different alternatives e.g.) environmental-friendly small-scale housing, third, institutionalising the total proportion of release, fourth, establishing an open-recreation space, fifth, introducing expanded public-private partnerships. Ultimately securing the legitimacy of the nation's development-restricted zone system can contribute positively to the environment preservation and human health by promoting public leisure activities in terms of the recent increase in external activities caused by the Covid-19 crisis. Concluding remarks are here that the understanding of England’s green belt policy can be delivered to and help formulate domestic policy addressing current issues.

Background: Sevoflurane anesthesia may show emergence agitation and delirium in children, compared to other inhalation agents. Therefore, we studied the effect of low dose sevoflurane on recovery time and emergence agitation in children. Methods: We studied 50 patients who were planned for surgery under general anesthesia, aged between 2 and 8 years. They were randomly divided into two groups. Patients of group S were anesthetized with sevoflurane 2.5-3 vol%, whereas those of group R were given sevoflurane 1.2-1.5 vol% and continuous intravenous infusion of remifentanil 0.1-0.2μg/kg/min. All patients received N2O:O2 50:50 during maintenance of anesthesia. After the surgery, the anesthesiologist recorded recovery time and determined agitation score using 5-point scoring scale in both groups. Agitation score, incidence of emergence agitation and recovery time were compared with each other between the two groups. Results: The agitation scores were 2.72 ± 0.98 and 2.64 ± 0.95 in S and R groups, respectively, showing statistical insignificance. The incidence of emergence agitation score 4 or 5 was not significantly different, either. The recovery time was statistically shorter in R group (P<0.05). Conclusions: Compared with sevoflurane inhalation anesthesia alone, the use of sevoflurane and remifentanil in combination provided shorter recovery time, but no effect on emergence agitation. Fabrication of an Anode-Supported Sofc with a Sol-Gel Coating Method for a Mixed-Gas Fuel Cell

<P>An anode-supported type solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) is a promising structure resulting in a very high performance because it consists of a very thin electrolyte. In the preliminary stage, we have succeeded in the fabrication of Samaria-Doped Ceria (SDC) thin film on a porous Ni-Al substrate using a sol-gel coating technique. The thin electrolyte film binds the substrate well and a single cell made with the SDC thin-film electrolyte and porous LSM cathode exhibited a good performance in a mixed-gas condition, even at intermediate temperatures. The single cell, consisting of 20 µm thin SDC electrolytes, the porous Ni-Al anode substrate, and a LSM cathode, exhibited an open circuit voltage of 0.82V and a maximum power density of 0.31 W.cm-2 at 700°C with humidified methane and air mixtures. This cell also generated an open circuit voltage of about 1.1V and a maximum power density of 0.34 W.cm-2 at 600°C with humidified hydrogen as the fuel and air as the oxidant.</P>
Facile synthesis and characterization of γ-AlOOH/PVA composite granules for Cr(VI) adsorption

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>γ-AlOOH(boehmite)/PVA composite granules with high adsorption performance towards Cr(VI) were successfully synthesized by combining sol–gel and oil-drop methods. The γ-AlOOH/PVA sample with 35wt% PVA showed the highest Cr(IV) adsorption capacity of 35.91mg/g, which was much higher than that of the pure γ-AlOOH sample (17.08mg/g). The adsorption behaviors of Cr(VI) ions onto the γ-AlOOH and γ-AlOOH/PVA granules were well described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and the adsorption mechanisms included electrostatic attraction, ligand exchange and redox reaction. The recovery of Cr(VI) under basic conditions was conducted to evaluate the practical utility of the synthesized composite granules.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Spherical γ-AlOOH/PVA composite granules were synthesized by sol–gel and oil-drop methods. </LI> <LI> The composite granules showed enhanced adsorption performance towards Cr(VI). </LI> <LI> A general adsorption mechanism of Cr(VI) onto the composite granules was proposed. </LI> <LI> Desorption experiment showed 79% recovery after 6h in a basic solution. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

Avicularin, quercetin-3-a-L-arabinofuranoside, has been reported to possess diverse pharmacological properties such as anti-in-flammatory and anti-infectious effects. However, the underlying mechanism by which avicularin exerts its anti-inflammatory activity has not been clearly demonstrated. This study aimed to elucidate the anti-inflammatory mechanism of avicularin in lipopolysac-charide (LPS)-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophage cells. Avicularin significantly inhibited LPS-induced excessive production of pro-inflammatory mediators such as nitric oxide (NO) and PGE2 and the protein levels of iNOS and COX-2, which are responsible for the production of NO and PGE2, respectively. Avicularin also suppressed LPS-induced overproduction of pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-1b. Furthermore, avicularin significantly suppressed LPS-induced degradation of IκB, which retains NF-κB in the cytoplasm, consequently inhibiting the transcription of pro-inflammatory genes by NF-κB in the nucleus. To understand the un-derlying signaling mechanism of anti-inflammatory activity of avicularin, involvement of multiple kinases was examined. Avicularin significantly attenuated LPS-induced activation of ERK signaling pathway in a concentration-dependent manner. Taken together, the present study clearly demonstrates that avicularin exhibits anti-inflammatory activity through the suppression of ERK signaling pathway in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophage cells.

Zirconium-based metal-organic framework MOF-808 was synthesized, and sulfated with aqueous sulfuric acid. Sulfated MOF-808 was utilized as a recyclable heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of quinazolinones from β-ketoesters and benzamides, and for the synthesis of benzimidazoles from β-ketoesters and o-phenylenediamines in glycerol as a green solvent. The sulfated MOF-808 catalyst was more active than many heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysts. The combination of the sulfated MOF-808 and glycerol was also effective for the reaction of o-aminothiophenols with β-diketones or cyclic β-diketones to produce benzothiazoles. To our best knowledge, MOF-based catalysts were not previously utilized as heterogeneous catalyst in glycerol as green solvent.
