Since previous researches of bankruptcy prediction model focused on financial information to analyze bankruptcy prediction model this paper empirically studies whether non-financial information can improve the accuracy of bankruptcy prediction. When non-financial ratios are included the accuracy is sharply increased, e.g., at least 8%p more. We also find that the model of artificial neural network maybe more accurate than the multivariate discriminant analysis or logit analysis, however, the difference is not too big.

<P>Controlled phase conversion in polymorphic transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) provides a new synthetic route for realizing tunable nanomaterials. Most conversion methods from the stable 2H to metastable 1T phase are limited to kinetically slow cation insertion into atomically thin layered TMDs for charge transfer from intercalated ions. Here, we report that anion extraction by the selective reaction between carbon monoxide (CO) and chalcogen atoms enables predictive and scalable TMD polymorph control. Sulfur vacancy, induced by anion extraction, is a key factor in molybdenum disulfide (MoS<SUB>2</SUB>) polymorph conversion without cation insertion. Thermodynamic MoS<SUB>2</SUB>-CO-CO<SUB>2</SUB> ternary phase diagram offers a processing window for efficient sulfur vacancy formation with precisely controlled MoS<SUB>2</SUB> structures from single layer to multilayer. To utilize our efficient phase conversion, we synthesize vertically stacked 1T-MoS<SUB>2</SUB> layers in carbon nanofibers, which exhibit highly efficient hydrogen evolution reaction catalytic activity. Anion extraction induces the polymorph conversion of tungsten disulfide (WS<SUB>2</SUB>) from 2H to 1T. This reveals that our method can be utilized as a general polymorph control platform. The versatility of the gas-solid reaction-based polymorphic control will enable the engineering of metastable phases in 2D TMDs for further applications.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

Changes of Vital Signs, Expired Volume and Maximal Pressure by Mode of Ventilation during a Nuss Operation in Patients with Pectus Excavatum Soo Dal Kwak, M.D., Nam Soon Baek, M.D., Su Hyun Cho, M.D. Ki Ryang Ahn, M.D., Sun Hak Lee, M.D., Chun Suk Kim, M.D. Wook Park, M.D., and Hyung Joo Park, M.D. Departments of Anesthesiology, ??Chest Surgery, College of Medicine, Soonchunhyang University, Cheonan, Korea Background: This study was undertaken in order to investigate any cardiopulmonary changes caused by the surgical procedure during a Nuss operation in patients with pectus excavatum. Methods: Thirty patients undergoing the Nuss operation were divided into two groups. The patients were randomly assigned to either Group-V (n = 15) which volume controlled ventilation was applied, or to Group-p (n = 15) where pressure controlled ventilation was applied. Mechanical ventilation provided a tidal volume to be set at approximately 10 ml/kg and a frequency set to keep ETCO_2 in range, between 32 mmHg and 38 mmHg. During the surgical procedure, we recorded expired volume (V_E) and inspired maximal pressure (Pmax) changes according to the ventilator mode, and then also recorded changes in vital signs. Results: Heart rate and blood pressure had no significant changes in either groups. In Group-V, during rotation of the metal bar, there was a significant decrease in expired volume (P < 0.001), changes of inspired maximal pressure gradually increased with the operation (P < 0.001). In Group-P, rotation of the metal bar caused a significant decrease in expired volume (P < 0.001). Conclusions: During the Nuss operation, there should be careful observation of changes in the vital signs, expired volume and maximal pressure during insertion and rotation of the metal bar. Background: Remdesivir is widely used for the treatment of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), but controversies regarding its efficacy still remain. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted to evaluate the effect of remdesivir on clinical and virologic outcomes of severe COVID-19 patients from June to July 2020. Primary clinical endpoints included clinical recovery, additional mechanical ventilator (MV) support, and duration of oxygen or MV support. Viral load reduction by hospital day (HD) 15 was evaluated by calculating changes in cycle threshold (Ct) values. Results: A total of 86 severe COVID-19 patients were evaluated including 48 remdesivir-treated patients. Baseline characteristics were not significantly different between the two groups. Remdesivir was administered an average of 7.42 days from symptom onset. The proportions of clinical recovery of the remdesivir and supportive care group at HD 14 (56.3% and 39.5%) and HD 28 (87.5% and 78.9%) were not statistically different. The proportion of patients requiring MV support by HD 28 was significantly lower in the remdesivir group than in the supportive care group (22.9% vs. 44.7%, P = 0.032), and MV duration was significantly shorter in the remdesivir group (average, 1.97 vs. 5.37 days; P = 0.017). Analysis of upper respiratory tract specimens demonstrated that increases of Ct value from HD 1–5 to 11–15 were significantly greater in the remdesivir group than the supportive care group (average, 10.19 vs. 5.36; P = 0.007), and the slope of the Ct value increase was also significantly steeper in the remdesivir group (average, 5.10 vs. 2.68; P = 0.007). Conclusion: The remdesivir group showed clinical and virologic benefit in terms of MV requirement and viral load reduction, supporting remdesivir treatment for severe COVID-19.

In this study, high-performance liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/ MS) was employed to detect 26 antidiabetic compounds in adulterated dietary supplements using a simple, selective method. The work presented herein may help prevent incidents related to food adulteration and restrict the illegal food market. The best separation was obtained on a Shiseido Capcell Pak® C18 MGII (2.0 mm × 100 mm, 3 μm), which improved the peak shape and MS detection sensitivity of the target compounds. A gradient elution system composed of 0.1 % (v/v) formic acid in distilled water and methanol at a flow rate of 0.3 mL/min for 18 min was utilized. A triple quadrupole mass spectrometer with an electrospray ionization source operated in the positive or negative mode was employed as the detector. The developed method was validated as follows: specificity was confirmed in the multiple reaction monitoring mode using the precursor and product ion pairs. For solid samples, LOD ranged from 0.16 to 20.00 ng/mL and LOQ ranged from 0.50 to 60.00 ng/mL, and for liquid samples, LOD ranged from 0.16 to 20.00 ng/mL and LOQ ranged from 0.50 to 60.00 ng/mL. Satisfactory linearity was obtained from calibration curves, with R2 > 0.99. Both intra and inter-day precision were less than 13.19 %. Accuracies ranged from 80.69 to 118.81 % (intra/inter-day), with a stability of less than 14.88 %. Mean recovery was found to be 80.6-119.0 % and less than 13.4 % RSD. Using the validated method, glibenclamide and pioglitazone were simultaneously determined in one capsule at concentrations of 1.52 and 0.53 mg (per capsule), respectively
Flavonoids from <i>Machilus japonica</i> Stems and Their Inhibitory Effects on LDL Oxidation

<P>Stems of <I>Machilus japonica</I> were extracted with 80% aqueous methanol (MeOH) and the concentrated extract was successively extracted with ethyl acetate (EtOAc), normal butanol (<I>n</I>-BuOH), and water. Six flavonoids were isolated from the EtOAc fraction: (+)-taxifolin, afzelin, (−)-epicatechin, 5,3'-di-<I>O</I>-methyl-(−)-epicatechin, 5,7,3'-tri-<I>O</I>-methyl-(−)-epicatechin, and 5,7-di-<I>O</I>-methyl-3',4'-methylenedioxyflavan-3-ol. The chemical structures were identified using spectroscopic data including NMR, mass spectrometry and infrared spectroscopy. This is the first report of isolation of these six compounds from <I>M. japonica</I>. The compounds were evaluated for their diphenyl picryl hydrazinyl scavenging activity and inhibitory effects on low-density lipoprotein oxidation. Compounds <B>1</B> and <B>3</B>–<B>6</B> exhibited DPPH antioxidant activity equivalent with that of ascorbic acid, with half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC<SUB>50</SUB>) values of 0.16, 0.21, 0.17, 0.15 and 0.07 mM, respectively. The activity of compound <B>1</B> was similar to the positive control butylated hydroxytoluene, which had an IC<SUB>50</SUB> value of 1.9 µM, while compounds <B>3</B> and <B>5</B> showed little activity. Compounds <B>1</B>, <B>3</B>, and <B>5</B> exhibited LDL antioxidant activity with IC<SUB>50</SUB> values of 2.8, 7.1, and 4.6 µM, respectively.</P>
