Various processing methods have a great impact on the physiochemical and nutritional properties of meat that are of health concern. Hence, the postmortem processing of meat by different methods is likely to intensify the potential effects on protein oxidation. The influence of meat protein oxidation on the modulation of the systemic redox status and underlying mechanism is well known. However, the effects of processed meat proteins isolated from different sources on gut microbiota, oxidative stress biomarkers, and metabolomic markers associated with metabolic syndromes are of growing interest. The application of advanced methodological approaches based on OMICS, and mass spectrometric technologies has enabled to better understand the molecular basis of the effect of processed meat oxidation on human health and the aging process. Animal studies indicate the involvement of dietary proteins isolated from different sources on health disorders, which emphasizes the impact of processed meat protein on the richness of bacterial taxa such as (Mucispirillum, Oscillibacter), accompanied by increased expression of lipogenic genes. This review explores the most recent evidences on meat processing techniques, meat protein oxidation, underlying mechanisms, and their potential effects on nutritional value, gut microbiota composition and possible implications on human health.

We developed a hard X-ray spectrometer for the purpose of measuring X-ray emission spectrum excited by using single X-ray free electron laser (XFEL) pulses. A highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) crystal was placed in the von Hamos geometry to focus X-rays of the equal energy on a specific point in detector plane. The spectrometer was tested at PAL-XFEL using Ni and NiO films. The Ni $K_{\beta_{13}}$ X-ray emission line excited by using a single X-ray pulse was successfully resolved. If the much weaker Ni $K_{\beta_{25}}$line is to be observed, data must be accumulated with a few thousands of X-ray pulses. The spectrometer energy resolving power, E/$\Delta E$, was estimated to be 7500. This spectrometer can be utilized to conduct various X-ray emission and absorption measurements using XFELs.

In this study zinc oxide filled and unfilled polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/polyethylene glycol (PEG) 600 blended membranes with different degrees of cross-linking (mol%) were prepared using formaldehyde as a crosslinking agent and characterized by FTIR, SEM, TGA, mechanical analysis and permeation testing for CO2 and N2 gases. The effects of synthesis parameters like cross-linking ratio, wt.% PEG content and wt.% zinc oxide content on the membrane characteristics were also investigated. It was found that at 60 mol% degree of cross-linking and 60 wt.% PEG content, the membranes showed maximum CO2/N2 ideal selectivity of 26 and reasonable CO2 permeability of 52.9 Barrers at 25 C and 1.5 bar. It was also found that at 2 wt.% zinc oxide content, membranes showed highest CO2/N2 ideal selectivity of 112.8 and maximum CO2 permeability of 423 Barrers at 25 C and 1.5 bar.

Male cattle calves(n=24), 9-12 months age, with an average body weight of 120±20kg were fed total mixed rations(TMR) for 120 days to determine their growth performance. Animals were divided into four groups(six of each breed): Crossbred (Friesian×Sahiwal), Dhanni, Lohani, and Cholistani. The data obtained were analyzed using analysis of variance techniques under a completely randomized design. The average daily gain(ADG), feed efficiency(FE), and dressing percentage ranged from 639-892g/d, 0.105-0.155kg/kg, and 51.2-51.5%, respectively, in the different breeds. The ADG and FE did not differ between the Crossbred, Dhanni, and Lohani breeds, but these values were lower in Cholistani calves(P<0.05). The dressing percentage was similar in all breeds. The highest increase in body height was observed in Dhanni calves, but heart girth was obviously higher in Lohani calves. The feed cost per kg gain was higher for Cholistani calves but similar among Crossbred, Dhanni, and Lohani calves(P>0.05). In conclusion, Dhanni, Lohani, and Crossbred calves possess the promising potential for beef production under the rainfed(Barani) conditions of the Punjab.

Effect of oxygen annealing on bipolar resistive switching (BRS) properties of TiN/ZnO/CeO2-x/Pt devices was investigated. Bilayer ZnO/CeO2-x thin films were fabricated by rf-magnetron sputtering. It was observed that the improvement in cycle-to-cycle endurance degradation and uniformity of the bilayer ZnO/CeO2-x thin film is optimum at 400 °C annealing temperature due to decrease in oxygen vacancies during annealing, as confirmed by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The BRS could be caused by the formation of interfacial TiON layer, which is most likely to be accountable for creating an adequate quantity of oxygen vacancies necessary for the formation and rupture of conductive filaments. Smaller Gibbs free energy of the formation of interfacial TiON (−611 kJmol−1) layer as compared to bilayer film ZnO (−650 kJmol−1) and CeO2 (−1024 kJmol−1) results in an easier re-oxidation of the filaments through the oxygen exchange with TiN top electrode. The analysis of current– voltage characteristics shows that the charge transport mechanism is Schottky emission. Moreover, the temperature dependence of high resistance state (HRS) and low resistance state (LRS) revealed the physical origin of the RS mechanism, which entails the oxygen vacancies for the formation and rupture of conducting paths.

Emamectin benzoate, a non-systemic, translaminar, and broad spectrum insecticide, is excessively used in cotton. It kills the pest by suppressing the muscle contraction. Phenacoccus solenopsis Tinsley (Hemiptera: Pseudo coccidae) is one of the major sap sucking pests of cotton in many countries and has been shown resistance to various insecticides. In this study, we have continuously selected P. solenopsis with emamectin benzoate in the laboratory from G 3 to G 18 to determine the resistance development and resistance risk to emamectin benzoate and also to evaluate the dynamics of cross-resistance (CR) development with three other insecticides. After continuing selection of P. solenopsis for 16 generations with emamectin benzoate, the emamectin selected strain (Ema-SEL) developed a 280.15-fold resistance when tested at G 19 . Ema-SEL strain showed no CR to abamectin (0.28–1.65-fold), and profenofos (0.12–0.29-fold), but a very low to low CR to cypermethrin (6.02–11.29-fold). Abamectin was negatively cross-resistant with emamectin benzoate in Ema-SEL strain at G 13 , G 15 and G 19 while profenofos also exhibited similar results at G 13 , G 15 , G 17 and G 19 . Realized heritability (h 2 ) of resistance to emamectin benzoate was 0.24 from G 3 to G 19 . The results of projected rate of resistance development showed that if h 2 = 0.24, 0.34, and 0.44 at slope = 1.08, then 2.03, 1.43, and 1.11 generations, respectively are required for tenfold increase in LC 50 at 95 % selection intensity. Results of the present study suggested that P. solenopsis has the ability to develop resistance to emamectin benzoate but it can be managed by the alternate use of other insecticides including abamectin, profenofos and cypermethrin due to lack of/or very low to low CR with these insecticides.

Buffalo animals are slaughtered at their early age and carcasses are chilled rapidly which deteriorates its meat quality and decreases the consumer likeliness of buffalo meat. This study investigated the appropriate methods to prevent the quality deterioration of buffalo meat during chilling. Twenty four 18-mon-old buffalo bulls were slaughtered, electrically stimulated and suspended either by hip or achilles tendon. After 24 h postmortem, meat quality characteristics were recorded. Results showed that electrical stimulation (ES) led to rapid decline of carcass pH compared to non-ES method (p<0.05). Furthermore, electrically stimulated meat presented lower shear force accompanied with the higher CIE L⁎, a⁎, and b⁎ values (p<0.05). Suspension methods only affect the meat shear values and were lowered in hip suspended samples. It can be concluded that ES combined with hip suspension can be adopted to prevent the meat quality deterioration of young buffalo bulls during postmortem storage.
