NEW ROLES OF NPOS AND PARTNERSHIP WITH GOVERNMENT AND/OR BUSINESS IN CHINA

Yan-Chun Meng 연세대학교 동서문제연구원 2000 Global economic review Vol.29 No.4

In order to cater to the globalization trend, a general governmental institution reform has taken place in the world, and the aim of the reform is to limit governmental power and promote governmental efficiency. The force of the reform comes from both the domestic press and oversea press. On a national level, the request for legality of governmental power and controllability of governmental decision-making is becoming more urgent on a daily basis. On an international level, globalization has urged cooperation and raped response from every countries in the world. Most countries focus on limiting governmental power and power dispersion.

ZmFKBP20-1 improves the drought and salt tolerance of transformed Arabidopsis

        Yanli Yu,Yanjiao Li,Fengjuan Jia,Meng Zhao,Wencai Li,Qi Sun,Nana Li,Wenlan Li,Zhaodong Meng 한국식물학회 2017 Journal of Plant Biology Vol.60 No.6

FK506-binding proteins (FKBPs), which belongto the peptidyl-prolyl cis/trans isomerase superfamily, areinvolved in plant response to abiotic stresses. A number ofFKBP family genes have been isolated in plants, but littlehas been reported of FKBP genes in maize. In this study, adrought-induced FKBP gene, ZmFKBP20-1, was isolated frommaize and was characterized for its role in stress responsesusing gene expression, protein subcellular localization, transformation in Arabidopsis, expression patterns of thestress-responsive genes, and physiological parameter analysis. During drought and salt stresses, ZmFKBP20-1 transgenicArabidopsis plants exhibited enhanced tolerance, which wasconcomitant with the altered expression of stress/ABAresponsivegenes, such as COR15a, COR47, ERD10, RD22,KIN1, ABI1, and ABI2. The resistance characteristics ofZmFKBP20-1 overexpression were associated with a significantincrease in survival rate. These results suggested thatZmFKBP20-1 plays a positive role in drought and salt stressresponses in Arabidopsis and provided new insights into themechanisms of FKBP in response to abiotic stresses inplants.

      • A Modular-based Miniature Mobile Robot for Pervasive Computing

Yan Meng,Kerry Johnson,Brian Simms,Matthew Conforth 보안공학연구지원센터 2008 International Journal of Hybrid Information Techno Vol.1 No.1

Increasingly, innovations in miniaturization and embedded systems are making pervasive computing a reality. Meanwhile, similar advancements in robotics have made autonomous mobile robots easier to develop and more cost-efficient. However, since the field of ubiquitous robotics remains relatively unexplored, we develop SMARbot (Stevens Modular Autonomous Robot), as a tool to explore the pervasive capability of miniature robots. The SMARTBot was designed to be a highly modular, adaptable, inexpensive base model to integrate miniature mobile robots into the pervasive computing environment. The hardware and software architecture of the prototype are proposed. The experimental results demonstrate the feasibility and efficiency of the SMARbot in the real-world scenarios

Synthesis and Structural Studies of an Organic Complex and its Association with BSA

        Meng, Fa-Yan,Yu, Sheng-Rong,Liang, Li-Xi,Zhong, Xue-Ping,Wang, Li,Zhu, Jin-Mei,Lin, Cui-Wu Korean Chemical Society 2011 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.32 No.7

The self-assembly of one novel organic complex based on chlorogenic acid (HCA) and 2,2'-bipyridine (2,2'-bipy) has been synthesized and characterized. The complex achieved by hydrogen-bonding interactions, adopted a 1:1 stoichiometry in a solid state. The proton transfer occurred from the carboxyl oxygen to the aromatic nitrogen atom to form salts CA${\cdot}$(2,2'-Hbipy), the 2,2'-Hbipy molecule individually occupies the pseudo-tetragonum that is formed with CA. In this paper, the interactions of CA${\cdot}$(2,2'-Hbipy) with bovine serum albumin (BSA) were studied by fluorescence spectrometry. For CA${\cdot}$(2,2'-Hbipy), HCA and 2,2'-bipy, the average quenching constants for BSA were $2.4384{\times}10^4$, $4.653{\times}10^3$, and $3.059{\times}10^3\;L{\cdot}mol^{-1}$, respectively. The mechanism for protein fluorescence quenching is apparently governed by a static quenching process. The Stern-Volmer quenching constants and corresponding thermodynamic parameters ${\Delta}$H, ${\Delta}$G and ${\Delta}$S were calculated. The binding constants and the number of binding sites were also investigated. The conformational changes of BSA were observed from synchronous fluorescence spectra.

Arsenic trioxide: applications, mechanisms of action, toxicity and rescue strategies to date

        Meng Yan,Hao Wang,Rui Wei,Wenwen Li 대한약학회 2024 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.47 No.3

Arsenical medicine has obtained its status in traditional Chinese medicine for more than 2,000 years. In the 1970s, arsenictrioxide was identifi ed to have high effi cacy and potency for the treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia, which promotedmany studies on the therapeutic eff ects of arsenic trioxide. Currently, arsenic trioxide is widely used to treat acutepromyelocytic leukemia and various solid tumors through various mechanisms of action in clinical practice; however, it isaccompanied by a series of adverse reactions, especially cardiac toxicity. This review presents a comprehensive overviewof arsenic trioxide from preclinical and clinical effi cacy, potential mechanisms of action, toxicities, and rescue strategies fortoxicities to provide guidance or assistance for the clinical application of arsenic trioxide.

        Yan-Jiao Meng 대한수학회 2012 대한수학회지 Vol.49 No.4

In this paper, we obtain two general laws of precise asymptotics for sums of i.i.d random variables, which contain general weighted functions and boundary functions and also clearly show the relationship between the weighted functions and the boundary functions. As corollaries,we obtain Theorem 2 of Gut and Spataru [A. Gut and A. Spataru,Precise asymptotics in the law of the iterated logarithm, Ann. Probab. 28 (2000), no. 4, 1870{1883] and Theorem 3 of Gut and Spataru [A. Gut and A. Spataru, Precise asymptotics in the Baum-Katz and Davids laws of large numbers, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 248 (2000), 233{246].

Syntheses, Crystal Structures, and Spectral Properties of Two Coordination Compounds Based on 1,2-Bis(benzimidazolyl)benzene

        Meng, Fa-Yan,Jiang, Bing-Li,Lin, Cui-Wu,Wang, Li,Tan, Xiao-He Korean Chemical Society 2011 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.32 No.3

Two new benzimidazolyl-containing complexes have been synthesized by reactions of $Cu^{II}$ salts and 1,2-bis(benzimidazolyl) benzene ($H_2bbbz$) with two different dicarboxylate ligands. When phthalate acid ($H_2pt$) was employed as secondary ligand, a 0D molecular complex Cu$(H_2bbbz)(pt){\cdot}(H_2pt)$ (1)was furnished and when the secondary ligand was instead by a linear bridging ligand of terephthalic acid ($H_2tp$) a 1D zipper-like coordination polymer $[Cu(H_2bbbz)(tp){\cdot}2(C_2H_5OH){\cdot}H_2O]_n$ (2) was obtained, suggesting the structure-direction effect of the secondary dicarbxylate ligand. The preliminary investigation on the spectral properties of the complexes was also presented.

Tunicamycin enhances TRAIL-induced apoptosis by inhibition of cyclin D1 and the subsequent downregulation of survivin

        Hai-Yan Zhang,Zhen-Xian Du,Bao-Qin Liu,Yan-Yan Gao,Xin Meng,Yifu Guan,Wei-Wei Deng,Hua-Qin Wang 생화학분자생물학회 2009 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.41 No.5

TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) has been proposed as a promising cancer therapy that preferentially induces apoptosis in cancer cells, but not most normal tissues. However, many cancers are resistant to TRAIL by mechanisms that are poorly understood. In this study, we showed that tunicamycin, a naturally occurring antibiotic, was a potent enhancer of TRAIL-induced apoptosis through downregulation of survivin. The tunicamycin-mediated sensitization to TRAIL was efficiently reduced by forced expression of survivin, suggesting that the sensitization was mediated at least in part through inhibition of survivin expression. Tunicamycin also repressed expression of cyclin D1, a cell cycle regulator commonly overexpressed in thyroid carcinoma. Furthermore, silencing cyclin D1 by RNA interference reduced survivin expression and sensitized thyroid cancer cells to TRAIL; in contrast, forced expression of cyclin D1 attenuated tunicamycin-potentiated TRAIL-induced apoptosis via over-riding downregulation of survivin. Collectively, our results demonstrated that tunicamycin promoted TRAIL-induced apoptosis, at least in part, by inhibiting the expression of cyclin D1 and subsequent survivin. Of note, tunicamycin did not sensitize the differentiated thyroid epithelial cells to TRAIL-induced apoptosis. Thus, combined treatment with tunicamycin and TRAIL may offer an attractive strategy for safely treating resistant thyroid cancers. • Effects of Analgecine on Oxaliplatin-Induced Neurotoxicity in Patients with Gastrointestinal Cancer

Liu, Meng-Yan,Huang, Xin-En Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.10

Background: As the third generation of platinum-based antineoplastic agent aginst gastrointestinal cancer, oxaliplatin is considered to be associated with severe sensory neurotoxicity. Acorrding to previous studies, vitaminE, intravenous Ca/Mg and glutamine may partly reduce the incidence and severity of oxaliplatin-induced neurotoxicity. The aim of this study was to investigate the safety and efficacy of analgecine for preventing oxaliplatin-induced neurotoxicity in the patients with gastrointestinal tumors. Method: In this study, patients undergoing oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy were assigned to analgecine (experimental) group or control group. Analgecine 6ml was administered once a day for seven days from the day of oxaliplatin treatment. The National Cancer Institute Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (NCI CTCAE; version 3) was used to evaluate oxaliplatin-induced neurotoxicity. The incidence rates and grade of neurotoxicity of patients were assessed before and during (after four and eight cycles) treatment. Results: Totally, 82 patients were enrolled in this study, 42 in experimental group and 40 in control group. The occurrence of each grade neurotoxicity in the experimental group was significantly lower than that in control group. The overall occurrence rate was 31% vs 55% (P=0.043) after 4 cycles and 52% vs 75% (P=0.050) after 8 cycles. Conclusion: Analgecine appears could be effective in reducing oxaliplatin-induced neurotoxicity and be applicated for patients with gastrointestinal tumors who would be treated with oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy.
