An EPR spectrometer for students lab work was constructed, utilizing Cenco electromagnet and Shimadzu microwave systems. The Cenco DC power supply system was modified to control and sweep the DD magnetic field electronically. The Cenco frequency-measuring cavity was used as a sample cavity. The klystron-suppling input power and the output power passed by the absorbing cavity were monitored, and the differece of these two was amplified to obtain EPR spectra. Two samples, DPPH and MnCl_2·4H_2O crystal, were tried with the spectrometer, and the results seemed to be good enough for student lab work.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of detraining and retraining on serum lipid and hormones in soccer players. Subjects were seven male high-school soccer players. V˙O_2max was determined for each subjects by administering a treadmill test(initial speed: 90m/min, grade: 5%, increasing speed per 3 min: 30m/min). Serum lipid(T-C, TG, HDL-C LDL-C) and hormones(epinephrine, norepinephrine, growth hormones, cortisol) were assayed pre and post detraining in 10, 20, 30 days after retraining. The repeated ANOVA was used to determine significant differences. The 0.05 level of significance was as critical level for the study. The results of the study were as follows: 1. V˙O_2max(ml/min) were 3576.3±204.2ml/min pre detraining, 3234.1±198.9 ml/min post detraining. There are significant(p<.05) difference between pre and post detraining. In 10, 20, 30 days after retraining, V˙O_2max(ml/min) were 3601.4±170.9 ml/min. There were significantly(p<.05) increased in retraining periods. 2. V˙O_2max(ml/kg/min) were significantly(p<.05) decreased from 62.3±2.9 ml/kg/min to 55.9±4.7 ml/kg/min in detraining. In 10, 20, 30 days after retraining, V˙O_2max(ml/kg/min) were 62.4±3.4ml/kg/min, 62.7±2.3ml.kg/min, 67.3±7.2ml/kg/min respectively. There were significantly(p<.05) increased in retraining periods. 3. T-C were significantly (p<.05) increased from 166.6±8.5mg/dl to 175.3±10.3 mg/dl in detraining. In 10, 20, 30 days after retraining, T-C were 160.1± 3.2mg/dl, 156.7±3.7mg/dl, 140.3±9.0mg/dl. There were significantly(p<.05) decreased in retraining periods. 4. HDL-C were 61.4±6.6mg/di pre detraining, 5.3±6.6mg/dl post detraining. There are significant(p<.05) difference between pre and post detraining. In 10, 20, 30 days after retraining, HDL-C were 56.9±7.1mg/dl, 56.4±9.2mg/dl, 57.7±9.1mg/dl respectively. There were no significant difference in retraining periods. 5. The hormones(epinephrine. norepinephrine, growth hormone, cortisol) were changed as same patterns. Epinephrine were 26.0±7.0[g/ml pre detraining, 24.6±3.2pg/ml post detraining. In 10, 20, 30 days after retraining, epinephrine were 26.9±5.6pg/ml, 30.6±6.2pg/ml, 29.4±5.6pg/ml respectively. There were no significant difference in retraining periods. In conclusion, HDL-C, epinephrine, norepinephrine, growth hormone and cortisol were decreased, T-C, LDL-C and TG were increased in detraining. But HDL-C, epinephrine, norepinephrine, growth hormone and cortisol were increased, T-C, LDL-C and TG were decreased in retraining.

Vertical deformation and lateral flow can occur as a result of the construction of nearby embankments on a soft ground. This paper considered the behavior from a model test that situated pressure berms on the soft ground by trapezodial load., as varied the height and width of the pressure berm and height(H) of the load. But width(B) of the load is equal to all tests. The test results are as follows : 1. Maximum settlement occur at the center of the embankment and ending settlement is to the depth about 1.8B from the ground surface. 2. Maximum uplift location is about 0.3B ∼ 0.4B from the toe of the pressure berm and maximum uplift deformation occur with its height at H/2 without any influence from its width. 3. The width and height of the pressure berm for mimimum uplift deformation is 2H and H/3. 4. Maximum lateral flow occur to the depth at D/3 from the ground surface without any influence from its height and width.
K₃Li₂Nb_5O_15 단결정의 성장과 특성에 관한 연구

The potassium lithium niobate (K₃Li₂Nb_5O_15) single crystals were growing in K_χLi_(1-χ)NbO₃(x=0.4∼0.6) chemical formular by the Czochralski method. Crystal growth is studied in two orientations with growth along a-axis and c-axis. We have subjected this crystal to x-ray diffraction studies and found that they are single-crystalline and belong to tetragonal system with the lattice parameters a=b=12.577Å and c=3.997Å. The temperature dependence of dielectric constant was measured in the region of the phase transition. Curie temperature and diffuseness of phase transition are influenced by composition concentration. The composition and cation distribution of ferroelectric TB-type niobate crystals has a strong influence on the ferroelectric properties. Growth condition, optical transmittance, etching pattern and dielectric properties are presented and discussed.

Background: Early detection of cancer and improved treatment has led to higher survival rates and increased long-term survivors in oncology practice. But there are few longitudinal Quality of Life (QoL) studies in patients who experienced cancer surgery.To investigate the longitudinal change in QoL after cancer surgery, we designed prospective study for QoL in patients who experienced gastric and colorectal cancer surgery. Methods: A prospective longitudinal cohort study was designed. Patients from Hallym, Ajou, and Samsung medical center in South Korea were enrolled from February to September of 2012. They were given questionnaires every 6 months since then, and we`ve been using EORTC QLQ C-30 as quality of life scale. Patients over 55 years old who received curative resection due to gastric or colorectal cancer were included. The mean scores of the patients completing the interview at the 3 time points were compared using mixed model. Results: A total of 273 patients were interviewed at baseline. There were 188 patients (68.9 %) over 65 years old. As expected, physical functioning showed signifi cantly higher score in younger group (< 65 years old) (p=0.008). But global health status score in elderly group (= 65 years old) was higher than in younger (p=0.016). Younger patients complained of diarrhea more (p=0.027). In other items, there were no signifi - cant differences. As time went on, in both age group, appetite was improved, fi nancial diffi culties was increased. In this longitudinal cohort study, the elderly patients who experienced gastric and colorectal cancer surgery maintained relatively well-preserved functional status except physical function, compared with younger patients. And most patients expressed fi nancial burden was increasing as time went on.
Effect of 457 nm light on the polymerization of dental composite resins

The aim of this study was to determine if a 457 nm blue laser could effectively polymerize dental composite resins. After light curing 6 dental composite resins using a laser or a LED light-curing unit at 530 mW/㎠ and 900 mW/c㎠, respectively, degree of conversion and microhardness were evaluated. Degree of conversion of specimens by the laser and LED was similar (on top surface 54.4-67.7% and 55.2-67.1%, respectively; on bottom surface 35.1-53.8% and 45.4-53.1%, respectively). Microhardness was also similar (on top surface 28.5-83.6 Hv and 19.1-82.4 Hv, respectively; on bottom surface 22.5-65.4 Hv and 16.8-74.4 Hv, respectively), although, in some cases, laser-treated specimens showed slightly lower microhardness than the LED-treated on bottom surface. The present study shows that the 457 nm laser can polymerize dental composite resins to the same level as LED achieved.

Background: There have been concerns for photocarcinogenesis following long-term UV exposure. Evidence about association between the risk of skin cancer and long-term narrow-band ultraviolet B (NBUVB) phototherapy in patients with vitiligo is limited. Objectives: To investigate the risks of skin cancer and premalignant skin lesions, based on the sessions of NBUVB phototherapy in patients with vitiligo and to assess the risks in patients undergone extremely long-term phototherapeutic care (over 500 NBUVB sessions). Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study based on the Korean National Health Insurance Claims database. A total of 60,321 patients with vitiligo aged over 20 were enrolled between 2007 to 2017. Primary outcomes were the development of actinic keratosis, Bowen’s disease, nonmelanoma skin cancer, and melanoma occurred after enrollment. Results: Among the 60,321 patients with vitiligo, the risks of Bowen’s disease, nonmelanoma skin cancer, and melanoma did not increase after phototherapy; the risk of actinic keratosis increased significantly in those who had undergone ≥200 NBUVB sessions (hazard ratio, 2.280; 95% confidence interval 1.537 - 3.383). We then identified 717 patients with vitiligo who had undergone at least 500 sessions; their risks of nonmelanoma skin cancer and melanoma were no greater than those of the controls. Conclusion: Our results imply that long-term NBUVB phototherapy does not increase the risk of skin cancer in patients with vitiligo.
