        This paper shows that an AT-cut quartz crystal analyzer(Q.C.A) can be applied to the investigation of the microheological change of the polymer blend solution during solvent evaporation process casting blend on the surface of quartz crystal. he blend is made from various compositions of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and poly(vinyl acetate)(PVAc), and ethyl acetate as slovent. The resonant frequency and resonant admittance of the blend casting Q.C.A are measured simultaneously and the microheological behavior of the blend is analyzed during ethyl acetate evaporation. The PMMA/PVAc blend solution behaves several informative changes of resonant frequency and resonant admittance during ethyl acetate evaporation, depending on the evaporation time and the blend ratio. The PMMA/PVAc blend solution in ethyl acetate exhibited critical changes of resonant frequency and resonant admittance depending on the evaporation time and blend ratio. From this study, it is known that the quartz crystal analyzer can be successfully applicable to analyze viscoelastic changes on the microrheology and phase separation at the initial stage of the blends of PMMA and PVAc during the solvent, ethyl acetate evaporation process by maesuring the resonant freaquency and the resonant resistance in situ.

        Characterization of changes in global gene expression in the brain of neuron-specific enolase/human Tau23 transgenic mice in response to overexpression of Tau protein.

        <P>Tau is a neuronal phosphoprotein responsible for the formation of the neurofibrillary tangles in Alzheimer's disease. To characterize the changes in global gene expression in the brain of transgenic mice that overexpress human Tau23 protein in response to the increase of Tau23 phosphorylation, total RNA extracted from the hippocampus of 12-month-old transgenic and wild-type mice was converted to cDNA, labeled with biotin and hybridized to oligonucleotide microarrays. The microarray results were confirmed by real-time RT-PCR and Western blotting method. It was determined that 43 genes were up-regulated and 8 genes were down-regulated by Tau23 in transgenic mice compared to controls, based on the arbitrary difference in the 2-fold change. Among the up-regulated transcripts, those encoding for transporter and oxidoreductase were dramatically over-represented, followed by those related to regulatory molecule, cytoskeletal protein, signaling molecule, and extracellular matrix protein. Genes encoding for transcription factor, regulatory molecule, miscellaneous function, and chaperone were significantly reduced in the down-regulated group. The major genes in the up-regulated categories included Ecrg4, Folr1, Defb11, Aqp1 and Soctdc1. The major genes in the down-regulated categories were Ncor1, Gpm6a, and Hspd1. These results indicate that the microarray analysis identifies several gene functional groups and individual genes that respond to a sustained increase in Tau23 phosphorylation levels in the brain of transgenic mice. In addition, the results suggest the microarray test is a useful tool for increased understanding of the role of Tau23 protein in regulating neurodegenerative disorders.</P>

        The purpose of this study was to review the effects of stress hormon response to various exercise intensities and levels of emotional quotient to understanding the relationships between exercise and emotion This study can be summarized as follows : 1. In the ecdocrine system stress hormone responses after various exercise intensities were not significantly change in submaximal load, but significantly increased in anaerobic threshold load and maximal load to beta-andorphin, adrenocorticotropin, cortisol, catecholamin. 2. The stress reactions to emotional quotient were similar to change to various exercise intensities to adrenocortocotropic, catecholamin, serotonion et al. The subjects who have been emotional training as transcendence meditation in long time over six months were significantly change to stress hormone reactions. 3. The stress hormone reactions to various exercise were closely associated with levels of emotional training. Therefore, the effects of exercise can comprise those the result of emotional training. Author thought that emotions are a basic component of human exercise contained various euphorias, but exact nature has been elusive and difficult to specify. This is due to a number of causes, including the fact that so many systems of the body are involved in emotion. A second problem has been the tendency to separate emotion from cognition or rational thought processes. The physiological and psychological processes involved in emotion are, however, most likely interrelated.

      • Thermoplasma acidophilum의 20S Proteasome에 의한 ATPase-활성적 단백질분해에 관한 연구

        The eukaryotic 26S proteasome is an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent proteolytic complex consisting of the 20S core particle and 19S ATPase complex. However, because of its complexity and unstable properties, this study was carried out to present more simple and stable model for the ATP-activated proteolytic complex in prokaryotes which can take the place of the eukaryotic 26S proteasome. For this purpose, recombinant Thermoplasma 20S proteasome (T20S) and Methanococcus MS4, a sequence homolog of one ATPase subunit in the 19S ATPase complex, were successfully isolated from Escherichia coli (E. coli). The α and β subunits of T20S expressed in E. coli could assemble for themselves, and showed the peptide-hydrolyzing activity. Whereas both T20S and R20S (the 20S complex from rabbit skeletal muscle) had the highest peptidase activity against Suc-LLVY-AMC, a good substrate for chymotrypsin-like peptidase activity, the specific activity of T20S was slightly lower than that of R20S. In addition, several reagents such as KCI, SDS, and ovalbumin were shown to have different effects on the peptidase activities between T20S and R20S. When the ATPase activity of the purified MS4 were assayed , the Km for ATP was about 0.5 mM, and casein could stimulate the activity more than 2 fold without the change in Km. This result implicates that protein-activated ATPase may induce the conformational change of casein, and therefore suggests that MS4 ATPase may activate the proteolytic activity of the 20S proteasome via accelerating the recognition and translocation of the protein substrates.

        Effects of the Aromatherapy Program Using Fir Needle Essential Oil on Stress, Sleep Quality and Fatigue in Middle-Aged Women

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of aromatherapy program using fir needle essential oil on stress, sleep quality, and fatigue of middle aged women. Twenty middle-aged women were divided into experimental group and control group. The experimental group inhaled the fir needle fragrance for 5 minutes and received a back massage with sunflower oil mixed with fir essential oil for 20 minutes. The control group took a rest for 5 minutes instead of inhaling the fragrance of essential oils and received a back massage with only sunflower oil. The experiment was conducted total eight times (twice a week) for four weeks. For the measurement of stress, fatigue, and sleep quality, questionnaires were used to collect data in the pre-test survey and post-test survey. As a result, the scores of physical and psychological stress in the experimental group and the control group were significantly decreased. However, the physical stress was more decreased in the experimental group treated with fir oil aromatherapy. In addition, both groups showed a significant difference in the quality of sleep. Fatigue measurements showed significant changes in both groups, but the fatigue reduction was more significant in the experimental group. These results suggest that massage therapy for the middle-aged women has a positive effect on relieving physical and psychological stress, improving sleep quality and reducing fatigue by assisting metabolism and blood circulation. This study proved that fir needle essential oil can be a good material for aromatherapy to promote health of middle aged women undergoing physical, psychological, and social changes.

      • Investigation of high contrast and reversible luminescence thermochromism of the quantum confined Cs<sub>4</sub>PbBr<sub>6</sub> perovskite solid

        <P>Thermochromism of organic/inorganic halide perovskites has attracted particular interest due to their potential applications as photoluminescence (PL)-based temperature sensors. However, despite the outstanding PL characteristics, their use as a thermochromic material in practical temperature ranges has been limited because of their poor thermal stability. In this study, we used the quantum confinement effect and exceptional PL quantum efficiency of the Cs4PbBr6 perovskite to demonstrate their high on/off ratio (20) and reversible PL thermochromism in the solid state in practical temperature ranges including room temperature (RT). Systematic photophysical and optical characterization studies, including exciton-phonon scattering, exciton binding energy, exciton decay dynamics, and crystal structure change, were performed to investigate the origin of this unique thermochromic PL property. The results showed that the efficient and highly reversible thermochromic PL emission of the Cs4PbBr6 perovskite is due to its desirable optical properties such as highly luminescent emission, efficient PL quenching at high temperatures, and thermally reversible structural changes.</P>

        에너지절약형 친환경주택의 성능 평가를 위한 IFC-BIM기반 요구정보 자동추출 방안 연구

        The demand for green homes has been increasing consistently. However, the evaluation of green homes has been performed manually, which is time-consuming and low in reliability. The objective of this study was to propose a method in order to extract and input the information necessary for the construction criteria evaluation of green homes from BIM automatically. In order to develop a method, first, this study defined the information required for the evaluation of green homes. Second, this study proposed the methods to extract the information about the performance details by type, air leakage and solar irradiance from BIM. Finally, this study reviewed the feasibility of the IFC based BIM for the evaluation on the green homes and, based on review result, investigated the application plans for the proposed method. Since it is possible to automatically input the information required for the green home performance evaluation program through the proposed method, it is expected not only to increase the productivity of evaluation but also to improve the responsive power of evaluation task by reducing the repetitive tasks that occur during design changes.

        With a view to examining the habit and method in which old people maintain and improve their health, we consulted 551 men and 444 women who were over 65 years old, and concluded as follows: 1. Habit of eating It's been revealed that most of the old people keep a regular eating hour, control the quantity of meal or eat a little food, and prefer vegetables to meat. 2. Mental health Old people feel the necessity for mental health and most of them (about 80%) keep good mental health without becoming pessimistic. Their chief concenrs have turned out to be about their sons and daughters and their own health and finance. 3. Managing Good Health It has been revelaed that old people do not possess any special kind of secret to keep good health but taking plenty of rest, regular meal, and proper exercise, and many of them (about 60%) have been shown to eat invigorant food that they can easily get around their living area. 4. Physical Functions It has been revealed that many old people are conscious of some symptoms about their parts of body and about to percent of them suffers from neuralgia. Some measures like medical aid especially for old people need to be taken as soon as possible. As we have found that the health-keeping method of old people consists plenty of rest, proper exercise, and appropriate nutrition, we can conclude that the recreatonal and culture facilities and programs for keeping old people in good health should be developed. It is also necessary to study food that contribute to their health and develop ways to get rid of the stresses to which they are exposed in their daily life. Presides, it is natural that government found an administrative department to deal with these matters effectively.

        Clinical Experiences and Usefulness of Cervical Posterior Stabilization with Polyaxial Screw-Rod System

        Objective : The objective of this study is to investigate the safety, surgical efficacy, and advantages of a polyaxial screw-rod system for posterior occipitocervicothoracic arthrodesis. Methods : Charts and radiographs of 32 patients who underwent posterior cervical fixation between October 2004 and February 2006 were retrospectively reviewed. Posterior cervical polyaxial screw-rod fixation was applied on the cervical spine and/or upper thoracic spine. The surgical indication was fracture or dislocation in 18, C1-2 ligamentous injury with trauma in 5, atlantoaxial instability by rheumatoid arthritis (RA) or diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH) in 4, cervical spondylosis with myelopathy in 4, and spinal metastatic tumor in 1. The patients were followed up and evaluated based on their clinical status and radiographs at 1, 3, 6 months and 1 year after surgery. Results : A total of 189 screws were implanted in 32 patients. Fixation was carried out over an average of 3.3 spinal segment (range, 2 to 7). The mean follow-up interval was 20.2 months. This system allowed for screw placement in the occiput, C1 lateral mass, C2 pars, C3-7 lateral masses, as well as the lower cervical and upper thoracic pedicles. Satisfactory bony fusion and reduction were achieved and confirmed in postoperative flexion-extension lateral radiographs and computed tomography (CT) scans in all cases. Revision surgery was required in two cases due to deep wound infection. One case needed a skin graft due to necrotic change. There was one case of kyphotic change due to adjacent segmental degeneration. There were no other complications, such as cord or vertebral artery injury, cerebrospinal fluid leak, screw malposition or back-out, or implant failure, and there were no cases of postoperative radiculopathy due to foraminal stenosis. Conclusion : Posterior cervical stabilization with a polyaxial screw-rod system is a safe and reliable technique that appears to offer several advantages over existing methods. Further biomechanical testings and clinical experiences are needed in order to determine the true benefits of this procedure.
