An Item Response Theory Analysis of Residents’ Perceived Sporting Event Impacts

Jingxian (Cecilia) Zhang,Dubravka Svetina Valdivia,Kevin K. Byon 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2022 Journal of Global Sport Management Vol.7 No.4

The evaluation of event impact is practical and helpful in increasing event quality. From residents’ positive points of view, hosting sporting events brings both the community and the country together, increases investment, and stimulates administrative pollution controls. As such, scales were developed to assess various impacts associated with sporting events. However, some psychometric information is missing in existing event impacts research. The purpose of this study is to illustrate how to use Item Response Theory (IRT) to measure positive event impacts. The sample (N = 423) was collected between May 14 and May 31, 2014, before the commencement of the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games in China. Positive event impacts measurements from both Prayag, Hosany, Nunkoo, and Alders (2013) and Ma, Ma, Wu, and Rotherham (2013) were revised. The results indicate that the IRT approach yields invariant item parameters (i.e., discrimination and difficulty). In addition, advantages and utility of IRT in the sporting event context are discussed.

Experimental and Numerical Study on the Nonlinear Behavior of Strengthened Beams Under High Preload

        Jingxian Zhao,Hongbo Liu,Zhihua Chen,Shishuo Zhang 한국강구조학회 2021 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.21 No.5

The behavior of the H-beam strengthened with welded T-beam is tested and simulated to investigate the nonlinear behavior of fl exural members strengthened under high preload. Experimental result reveals that for the four specimens that fails predominantly by fl exural yielding, the increase in the preload results in a reduction in both the yield load and the ultimate load when the preload ratio exceeds 0.75. In the parametric numerical analysis, the eff ect of heat input is considered by means of indirect thermal-structural coupling analysis. At each preload ratio, the infl uence of the aspect ratio, which is defi ned as the ratio between section height and width, is studied. Results show that as the aspect ratio decreases, the discrepancy between the ultimate load of preloaded and unpreloaded beams increases. An empirical formula is proposed to calculate the reduction of ultimate load for beams aff ected from diff erent preload ratios considering various aspect ratios. Further studies are conducted on the welding safety. It is demonstrated that beam with the section larger than WH100 × 100 × 10 × 10 may be welded under high load safely when the preload ratio is < 0.97. What’s more, the approaches to calculate residual defl ection and increments of defl ection during welding process are proposed and verifi ed to be eff ective. Finally, the proposed theoretical method to calculate design bearing capacity of reinforced beams may be utilized to increase the accuracy of design process.

Calcium phosphate with well controlled nanostructure for tissue engineering

Dongliang Jiang,Jingxian Zhang 한국물리학회 2009 Current Applied Physics Vol.9 No.3

Calcium phosphates comprise a large family of compounds with important biological applications, including osteologic implant coatings, grafts, scaffolds and bone cavity fillings, and vehicles for drug, protein and gene delivery, due to its similarity with the mineral constituents of human bones and teeth. Properties of calcium phosphate, including bioactivity, biocompatibility, solubility, mechanical properties and absorption can be tailored over wide ranges by controlling the particle composition, size, morphology and assembly. For these reasons, it is of great importance to develop synthesis methods focused on the precise control of particle size, morphology, and chemical composition. Herein, we present our approaches related with calcium phosphate with careful size and structural control through template guided process. First, HA nanorods were prepared through hydrothermal method. Phosphate ester was used as the structure directing agent. After hydrothermal treatment, calcium phosphate rods were obtained with well controlled particle size and porosity. Second, sodium salt carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) was used as the template to guide the formation and assembly of HA nanoparticles. The composites contain nanosized hydroxyapatite with structural features close to those of biological apatites. These composites with special structural features might be attractive for bone tissue engineering applications. Xiao Chen,Yuxia Zhang,Jingxian Yu 한국간호과학회 2021 Asian Nursing Research Vol.15 No.1

Purpose: Symptom experience after liver transplantation (LT) provides healthcare professionals with important information about the benefits and limitations of LT from patients’ perspective. This study aims to explore the multidimensional symptom experience and analyze related predictive factors in LT recipients. Methods: This cross-sectional study evaluated the occurrence, frequency, intensity, and level of distress of 40 symptoms in 265 LT recipients. Stepwise multiple regression analysis was performed to analyze the influencing factors of symptom experience. Results: The analysis of patient-reported data indicated that the ten most common symptoms were fatigue (42.3%), frequent sleep interruptions (38.9%), difficulty falling asleep (35.9%), decreased memory (34.0%), dreaminess (29.8%), itch (28.7%), muscular weakness (26.4%), shortness of breath (25.3%), anxiety (24.5%), and hand tremor (21.9%). Patients were classified into four groups according to survival time (1-month, 2e6-month, 7e12-month, and >1-year groups) after LT, and the most common symptom was fatigue in the one-month and 2e6-month groups, difficulty falling asleep in the 7e12-month group, and decreased memory in the >1-year group. Type of the primary caregiver, complications, concerns about the decreased ability to perform household and outdoor activities, and concerns about being a burden to the family were predictors of symptoms burden. Conclusion: LT recipients experienced complicated symptoms. In clinical practice, it is critical to integrate physicians, nurses, and social workers as a medical team to help LT recipients develop suitable coping strategies that can potentially address patients’ concerns, increase the sense of confidence, and improve symptom outcomes.

Structural analysis and testing of a miniature flexible joint under pressure and vector loading

        Junxue Ren,Xiaoguang Zhang,Jingxian Yang,Chao Wang,Yu Liu,Wei Yang 대한기계학회 2014 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.28 No.9

The structural characteristics of a miniature tactical motor flexible joint subjected to pressure and vector loading were investigated usingfinite element analysis and bench test. Three-dimensional non-linear finite element analysis was conducted using ANSYS Code Version11.0. The axial deflection, vectoring torque, and stress distributions in elastomeric and reinforcement rings were presented. Thepredicted values were consistent with the test data. Results indicate that the axial compressive stiffness increased gradually and nonlinearlywith pressure, while the angular stiffness remained nearly constant in the vectoring angle range from 0° to 6°. Under pressureloading, the elastomeric shear stress was negative, high at both sides, and low at the center of the cross-section, while the reinforcementhoop stress was compressive at the inner radius and tensile at the outer radius. The compressive stress was also high. The flexible jointexhibited higher stress level with altered stress distribution when subjected to additional vector loading. Existing empirical formulas forreinforcement hoop compressive stress were determined to be not applicable to the miniature flexible joint, which significantly overestimatedthe stress caused by pressure and underestimated the stress caused by vectoring.

        Structural Characterization of Microwave-Assisted Solution-Synthesized Strontium-Substituted Hydroxyapatite

        Jianguo Liao,Yanqun Li,Xiali Guan,Jingxian Liu,Yongxiang Zhang,Yufen Xie,Zhengpeng Yang,Xingze Duan,Aiguo Zhou,Jiangnan Zhu 성균관대학교(자연과학캠퍼스) 성균나노과학기술원 2016 NANO Vol.11 No.10

Hydroxyapatite and strontium-substituted hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (n-HA and Sr-HA) were prepared by microwave-assisted solution synthesis with aqueous solutions of various Sr/(Sr+Ca) molar ratios ranging from 0% to 15%. The structural properties of the hydroxyapatite powders were investigated by X-ray powder diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Raman spectra, field emission scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry and transmission electron microscopy. The results confirmed that strontium ions had been incorporated into the hydroxyapatite lattice. The synthetic n-HA and Sr-HA nanocrystalline consisted of hydroxyapatite crystalline phase with hexagonal structure, and the particle size was 30–40 x 60–70 nm and 40–50 x 70–80 nm, respectively. The calcined HA particle size ranged from about 120 nm to 150 nm, the calcined Sr-HA products were composed of spherical aggregates with a size of about 70–100 nm. The incorporation of Sr ions lead to the formation of vacancies in the crystal structure of the HA. The results indicated that the strontium substitution did not change the crystal structures. More Sr resulted in less calcined crystallites and formed agglomerates owing to the size effect.

A multifunctional lactic acid based plasticizer used for plasticizing PVC and PLA: Endowing PLA elastic restore capability

        Minjia Lu,Pingping Jiang,Pingbo Zhang,Shan Feng,Zhixuan Cui,Qingkui Song,Yong Zhao,Jingxian Shen,Yiyi Fan,Huixian Lu 한국공업화학회 2023 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.128 No.-

A novel multifunctional plasticizer, cyclohexyl triethylene glycol oligo-lactate (CTLE) was designed by atwo-step esterification reaction using green non-toxic biomass lactic acid as raw material. Its structurewas characterized by 1H NMR, FT-IR and TOF-MS. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), tensile test andleaching test were used to evaluate the plasticizer effect of PVC or PLA blends. Compared with commercialplasticizers, CTLE showed more outstanding thermal stability, flexibility and migration stability. Under the same condition with the addition of 50 phr plasticizer, the CTLE plasticized PVC film hadthe lowest glass transition temperature (TgCTLE-50 = 24.6 C) and the highest initial decomposition temperature(TiCTLE-50 = 265.4 C). In PLA blends, only the CTLE plasticized PLA film could recover after fracture, and the stress relaxation test results showed that the stress value of PLA-CTLE-20 drops sharply to anon-zero value, showing elastic characteristics. We estimate that the excellent plasticity of CTLE is due toits molecular structure. Among them, a large number of polar groups form intermolecular forces withPVC chain segments to make the binding tight, and the ring structure increases the free volume betweenPVC chain segments.

LincR-PPP2R5C Promotes Th2 Cell Differentiation Through PPP2R5C/PP2A by Forming an RNA–DNA Triplex in Allergic Asthma

        Ji Ningfei,Chen Zhongqi,Wang Zhengxia,Sun Wei,Yuan Qi,Zhang Xijie,Jia Xinyu,Wu Jingjing,Jiang Jingxian,Song Meijuan,Xu Tingting,Liu Yanan,Ma Qiyun,Sun Zhixiao,Bao Yanmin,Zhang Mingshun,Huang Mao 대한천식알레르기학회 2024 Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Research Vol.16 No.1

Purpose: The roles and mechanisms of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in T helper 2 (Th2) differentiation from allergic asthma are poorly understood. We aimed to explore a novel lncRNA, LincR-protein phosphatase 2 regulatory subunit B' gamma (PPP2R5C), in Th2 differentiation in a mouse model of asthma. Methods: LincR-PPP2R5C from RNA-seq data of CD4+ T cells of asthma-like mice were validated and confirmed by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, northern blotting, nuclear and cytoplasmic separation, and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). Lentiviruses encoding LincR-PPP2R5C or shRNA were used to overexpress or silence LincR-PPP2R5C in CD4+ T cells. The interactions between LincR-PPP2R5C and PPP2R5C were explored with western blotting, chromatin isolation by RNA purification assay, and fluorescence resonance energy transfer. An ovalbumin-induced acute asthma model in knockout (KO) mice (LincR-PPP2R5C KO, CD4 conditional LincR-PPP2R5C KO) was established to explore the roles of LincR-PPP2R5C in Th2 differentiation. Results: LncR-PPP2R5C was significantly higher in CD4+ T cells from asthmatic mice ex vivo and Th2 cells in vitro. The lentivirus encoding LincR-PPP2R5C suppressed Th1 differentiation; in contrast, the short hairpin RNA (shRNA) lentivirus decreased LincR-PPP2R5C and Th2 differentiation. Mechanistically, LincR-PPP2R5C deficiency suppressed the phosphatase activity of the protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) holocomplex, resulting in a decline in Th2 differentiation. The formation of an RNA-DNA triplex between LincR-PPP2R5C and the PPP2R5C promoter enhanced PPP2R5C expression and activated PP2A. LincR-PPP2R5C KO and CD4 conditional KO decreased Th2 differentiation, airway hyperresponsiveness and inflammatory responses. Conclusions: LincR-PPP2R5C regulated PPP2R5C expression and PP2A activity by forming an RNA-DNA triplex with the PPP2R5C promoter, leading to Th2 polarization in a mouse model of acute asthma. Our data presented the first definitive evidence of lncRNAs in the regulation of Th2 cells in asthma.

The influence of the extent of lymph node metastasis on the prognosis for patients with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma

        Jianping Wang*,Man Shu*,Hong Peng,Shaoqiang Li,Dongming Li,Jingxian Shen,Ming Kuang,Ying Zhang,Zebin Chen 대한외과학회 2023 Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research(ASRT) Vol.104 No.5

Purpose: Reports showed that some of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) patients with lymph node metastasis (LNM) may also gain survival benefit undergone resection. However, the effect of the extent of LNM on prognosis and surgical indication is barely discussed. Methods: From September 1994 to November 2018, primary ICC patients undergone initial curable surgery were enrolled. Based on the extent of LNM, we divided these patients into 4 groups, including patients with no LNM (group N0), LNM to hepatoduodenal ligament or common hepatic artery (region A, group A), LNM to gastrohepatic lymph nodes for left liver ICC and periduodenal and peripancreatic lymph node for right liver ICC (region B, group B), or LNM beyond these regions (region C, group C). Multivariable Cox regression analysis was performed to identify the prognostic factors for recurrence- free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) in all groups. Results: A total of 133 patients were enrolled. There were 56, 21, 17, and 39 patients in groups N0, A, B, and C, respectively. There was significant difference between groups N0 and C in RFS (P < 0.001) and OS (P = 0.002). When we compared group N0 + A + B with group C, we also found that RFS (P < 0.001) and OS (P = 0.007) were significantly different. In multivariable analysis, the extent of LNM was an independent risk factor for RFS (P < 0.050). Conclusion: ICC patients with the LNM to regions A and B could still achieve good prognosis with resection. Surgery should be carefully considered when LNM to region C.
