An large body of evidence indicates that leptinhas protective role against Alzheimer’s disease, where itreduces b-amyloid (Ab) production in both cell culture andanimal models. Our previous studies revealed that geniposidecould attenuate the production of Ab1–42 andantagonize the neurotoxicity of Ab1–42 in neurons. However, the mechanism that underlies these effects remains tobe clarified. To investigate whether leptin signaling isinvolved in regulating the production of Ab1–42 by geniposide,we treated primary neurons with leptin antagonist(LA), and determined the influence of LA on the activitiesof leptin signaling molecules and the expressions of secretasesassociated with the production of Ab1–42. Thefinding showed that, accompanied with the inhibition onthe level of Ab1–42 in primary neurons and APP/PS1transgenic mice, geniposide induced the phosphorylation ofJAK2 and STAT3, regulated the expression level of a- andb-secretase, and all of these could be prevented by the preincubationwith LA. The results of this study suggest thatgeniposide may regulate the production of Ab1–42 vialeptin signaling.

Background: Lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) is associated with poor clinical prognosis and lacks available targeted therapy. Given that the major threat of cancer is metastasis, delineation of the molecular mechanism underlying it would help devise therapeutic strategies. Objective: To investigate the functional role of protocadherin alpha 3 (PCDHA3) in LUSC, as well as investigate the underlying molecular mechanism. Methods: Data for PCDHA3 expression and clinical information in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) were extracted and analyzed in the UALCAN platform. Expression levels of PCDHA3 in LUSC cell lines were analyzed via RT-PCR and western blot. Overexpression of PCDHA3 was conducted via plasmid transfection. CCK-8 and cell cycle assays were utilized to investigate effect of PCDHA3 on cell proliferation. Transwell assay was used to detect migration and invasion. The underlying mechanism was demonstrated via western blot analysis. Results: Our data indicate that PCDHA3 was low expressed in three kinds of LUSC cell lines and best in H520 cells. Furthermore, overexpression of PCDHA3 could significantly impair LUSC cells proliferation, invasion and migration. Moreover, PCHDA3 repressed the biomarkers of mesenchymal (N-cadherin, fibronectin and vimentin) and increased expression of epithelial markers (E-cadherin and α-catenin). On the other hand, PCDHA3 overexpression partially blocked epithelial-mesenchymal transition. Conclusions: PCDHA3 suppressed the LUSC cells proliferation, invasion and migration via inhibiting the expression of EMT signatures, suggesting that PCDHA3 could serve as a valuable therapeutic target for LUSC therapy.

This study provides empirical evidences on the differentiation of the academic community amid the latest classified reform of faculty evaluation, highlighted by up-or-out policy in the non-research university context in China. The systematic data analysis sketches out faculty’s segmentation and four characterizations including academic bureaucrats, academic elites, academic weight-bearers, and academic realists were taxonomized accordingly. By distinguishing the “powerful minority” and the “powerless majority” in the academic community, the paper indicated that there exist heterogeneous interpretations of faculty evaluation policies departure from faculty’s perception toward their academic identity and trajectory. The findings of this research contribute to extant studies and provide insights that social interactions take place not only between faculty policies and the academic community but also among heterogeneous academic professional groups, which can be profoundly utilized to enhance faculty’s sense making of evaluation policies and adopt more rational strategies. It also suggests that under the dual managerial structure of Chinese universities, the segmentation of the academic community may continue to be intensified along with the changing faculty evaluation policies.
An Adaptive Energy-Efficient and Low-Latency MAC Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks
Liu, Hao,Yao, Guoliang,Wu, Jianhui,Shi, Longxing The Korea Institute of Information and Commucation 2010 Journal of communications and networks Vol.12 No.5
In this paper, an adaptive MAC protocol (variable load adaptive (VLA)-MAC) is proposed for wireless sensor networks. This protocol can achieve high energy efficiency and provide low latency under variable-traffic-load conditions. In the case of VLA-MAC, traffic load is measured online and used for adaptive adjustment. Sensor nodes transmit packets in bursts under high load conditions to alleviate packet accumulation and reduce latency. This also removes unnecessary listen action and decreases energy consumption in low load conditions. Simulation results show that the energy efficiency, latency, and throughput achieved by VLA-MAC are higher than those achieved by some traditional approaches.

In this paper, a novel fi nite time parameter estimation method is proposed to solve the parameter estimation problem for a class of linearly parameterized nonlinear systems. The main feature of the proposed method is that the existing method is modifi ed via concurrent learning technique such that the strict persistence of excitation ( PE ) condition on the regression matrix is relaxed to a rank condition on the recorded data. This makes the presented method more practical. Furthermore, the convergence rate is improved signifi cantly by sliding mode technique in fi nite time sense. The simulation results of the existing general nonlinear system illustrate the aforementioned features. Comparison with existing methods from literature proves the eff ectiveness of the proposed method.
The Similarity for Nominal Variables Based on F-Divergence
Zhao Liang,Liu Jianhui 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Database Theory and Appli Vol.9 No.3
Measuring the similarity between nominal variables is an important problem in data mining. It's the base to measure the similarity of data objects which contain nominal variables. There are two kinds of traditional methods for this task, the first one simply distinguish variables by same or not same while the second one measures the similarity based on co-occurrence with variables of other attributes. Though they perform well in some conditions, but are still not enough in accuracy. This paper proposes an algorithm to measure the similarity between nominal variables of the same attribute based on the fact that the similarity between nominal variables depends on the relationship between subsets which hold them in the same dataset. This algorithm use the difference of the distribution which is quantified by f-divergence to form feature vector of nominal variables. The theoretical analysis helps to choose the best metric from four most common used forms of f-divergence. Time complexity of the method is linear with the size of dataset and it makes this method suitable for processing the large-scale data. The experiments which use the derived similarity metrics with K-modes on extensive UCI datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method.

In this paper, Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) silicon solar cells with the industrial area (244.32 cm2) are fabricated on N-type silicon substrates. Both the ultra-thin tunnel oxide layer and phosphorus doped polycrystalline silicon (polysilicon) thin film are prepared by the LPCVD system. The wrap-around of polysilicon is observed on the surface of borosilicate glass (BSG). The polysilicon wrap-around can form a leakage current path, thus degrades the shunt resistance of solar cells, and leads to the degradation of solar cell efficiency. Different methods are adopted to treat the polysilicon wrap-around and improve shunt resistance of solar cells. The experimental results indicate that a chemical etching method can effectively solve the problem of polysilicon wrap-around and improve the performance of solar cells. Finally, a conversion efficiency of 22.81% has been achieved by our bifacial TOPCon solar cells, with Voc of 702.6 mV, Jsc of 39.78 mA/cm2 and FF of 81.62%.
